Femslash February: Day 20 - Goldenboo, Home for the Holidays Au
Lisa threw open the door to the kitchen, her gun drawn, lips curled, and stopped cold - a pun she wished she could appreciate even with her goddamn brother’s voice snarking in the back of her mind. Always wanted to get in the last word and whatnot.
The point was, she was now gaping at Shawna Baez, who’d apparently decided to wrap herself in a towel despite her leather jacket poking out underneath, and who had also frozen in place by the menorah with a look not quite “deer-in-the-headlights”.
“Hi,” Shawna said. Her voice was softer than Lisa expected.
“What the hell are you doing here?” Lisa moved further into the room, struggling not to glance behind her in case Shawna had brought along back-up. Maybe she should’ve taken Amunet up on that half-assed offer for protection now that she was one of the only Rogues left. Of all people, though, she hadn’t anticipated Peek-A-Boo being the one to find her. Speaking of which -
“I may have tracked your cell phone,” Shawna explained, likely seeing the question on the tip of Lisa’s tongue. She winced as Lisa raised the gun higher, aiming at her head rather than her heart. “Look, I’m not here to fight.”
“I heard about what happened.” Dark eyes darted away, landing again on the menorah and the two lit candles flickering in the chilly safehouse. “I know it sounds like bullshit coming from me, but I’m sorry about what happened. To him. Um.” She sighed. “And I know we haven’t been in contact since - ”
Shawna met her eyes again, and something hardened behind her gaze. “What? No.”
“I don’t want your pity and I don’t - ”
“Get. Out.” Lisa made sure to let it hiss off her lips this time, made sure Shawna flinched and knew she wasn’t fucking around. Her finger tightened on the trigger.
Shawna rolled her eyes. “Shoot me all you want but there’s a snowstorm outside and I’m not going back out into that hell.”
“Just teleport your ass out of my house,” Lisa snapped, and the smile she received was as saccharine sweet as a boatload of candy.
“Can’t do that when there’s nothing but snow outside your door and I can barely see Central City, now can I?”
A furtive glance toward the windows proved Shawna right. How she’d gotten in before the snow had piled up in front of her door was beyond her, though judging by how sopping wet she was, perhaps she’d punched her way through. Something about the thought made her stomach clench.
“I’m calling Mardon to fix this and then you’re leaving,” Lisa told her, and she didn’t dare turn around as she stormed back into the living room, knowing she’d see Shawna rolling her eyes again because, really, what would Mardon be able to do aside from making this weather worse?
It didn’t mean she had to like the situation any more. Even if she kept up the charade for an hour or so more.
