Summary: When Initiate Obi-Wan Kenobi is assigned to AgriCorps, he goes to his Creche Master to ask why he hasn’t been assigned to a Service Corps better suited. As a result he’s sent to MediCorps to become a healer. Cue Obi-Wan becoming Ben Kenobi: a master healer and specialized surgeon who does philanthropic MediCorps work on the Outer Rim. It’s hard work, but good work and he enjoys his work. But when the Clone Wars start, Ben is called away from his humanitarian work to patch up soldiers and Jedi on the battlefield. And once he’s there, he meets a rising star in the Clone Army: one Captain Cody.
Or, Healer-Surgeon Ben Kenobi was called to the war front. And he wasn't too keen on going. How could the Jedi be interested in starting a war, anyways?
This is that M*A*S*H Star Wars AU that I just couldn't get out of my head, so I wrote it. (However, you do not have to know or have seen MASH to understand this.)
Snippet:
Cannons boomed overhead, the shrieking of starfighters flying too low, and the shouting of troops and medics filled the air, creating a cacophony of noise.
Ben tuned out the sound and action around him, focusing intently on the task at hand. His hands were deep inside the clone trooper anesthetized on his table. He cursed into the flimsy, disposable mask covering his mouth and nose, sweat dripping down his forehead through his eyebrows and into his eyes.
His hands didn't shake, not for one second.
“Clamp,” he said loudly, not looking away from the torn artery he was holding together simply with his gloved fingers, so it would stop spilling inside this trooper.
The clone in scrubs beside him shook with fear. His eyes were wide, complexion green at the sight of the open cavity that Ben was wrist deep in.
Ben's eyes flickered up when the tool wasn't handed over, his eyes skimming over the barely sterile room, crowded with three other healers, and three more clone assistants, all trying their best to desperately save dying young clones and Jedi.
“Rys, right?” Ben said gently, yet forcefully enough that the young clone's eyes turned to lock with his. “I need you to focus only on me right now. This trooper needs you to as well,” Ben gestured with his shoulder, unable to move his hands. “Can you do that?”
The young man nodded earnestly, his own forehead beading with sweat in the hot, tiny, hurriedly-converted cargo bay. He nodded and handed over the clamp, his gloved hands quivering as they passed over the tool.
Ben ignored the heat, the noise and movement around him and focused back at the procedure on hand.
