The documentary will premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival this April.
Victims of bullying and abuse, five LGBT friends between the ages of 14 and 22 decided to defend themselves. The members of Check It sport knives, brass knuckles, and mace in stylish Louis Vuitton bags in hopes of keeping themselves (and their gang family) safe. Now an investigative feature-length documentary (aptly titled Check It) further explores what might be the only all-LGBT gang in the United States, following the members’ journey from a turbulent D.C. toward entrepreneurship.

Heidi Lunabba Studio Vilgefortis Participatory performance, photographs and video. On going project started in 2008.
Studio Vilgefortis is a beard studio for ladies and other people who don’t have a beard. At the mobile beardstudio anyone can get a beard of ones choice. The beard is for free. All customers have their portrait taken after the beard is finished. Studio Vilgefortis was first realised as a project for Nosadella.due, Bologna, Italy in October 2008. After that Studio Vilgefortis has visited several locations in Finland, Sweeden, Norway and Denmark. Studio Vilgefortis got it’s name from St Wilgefortis, a female saint whose cult arose in the 14th century. Wilgefortis had been promised in marriage by her father to a pagan king. To thwart the unwanted wedding, she had taken a vow of virginity, and prayed that she would be made repulsive and in answer to her prayers she sprouted a beard, which ended the engagement. In rage, Wilgefortis’s father had her crucified. Wilgefortis was venerated by people seeking relief from tribulations, in particular by women who wished to be liberated from abusive husbands. WHY DIDN’T THEY TEACH YOU ABOUT THIS IN HISTORY CLASS?
The Christian Movement for Life, aka, MOVE
a pro-green, vegan, anti-technology group
living in a house in West Philadelphia
BOMBED by the Philly PD, from the air, on May 13, 1985
YES, 1985!!!
the city killed 11 people (5 children), burned down 65 homes in a Black, middle-class, West Philly neighborhood, and caused $50,000,000.00 damage - all to “evict” the group and recover two shotguns
You know of Mumia Abu-Jamal (3rd photo from bottom) but did you know he was affiliated with MOVE?
Ramona Africa (2nd photo from bottom) and one child survived
MOVE leader John Africa was murdered that day
This was not the ONLY time an American city was bombed, btw. The first time, it was ALSO whites bombing Black people. And you want to talk about TERRORISM???
And what else don’t you know about your country and it’s treatment of Black people?
Get to Googling… AND Youtubing…
The US government dropped a bomb on a row house in a major American city and no one ever seems to mention it
I teach the MOVE bombing ever semester and students are mortified. EVERY SEMESTER.
I am not getting enough attention
how do you guys say rn in your heads
me to a stranger i just met at a party while im high
CULTURAL GENOCIDE: Before and After photo of a young Cree boy, forced to attend a Canadian “Indian school.” (1910)
Despicable.
I want to show this to white people who say that cultural appropriation isn’t a big deal because you’re taking a part of someone’s culture that was insulted, attacked and taken away from them for years and years and now you want to wear it as some sort of costume or fashion trend. But your ancestors were the ones to forcefully take away and obliterate OUR cultures for centuries. We STILL aren’t allowed to freely embrace our cultures because white people love to insult us and make fun of us, but white people themselves love wearing it because they think their mayo asses are entitlted to everything. Nope fuck off.
i learned this in my herstory of manhood class.. so fucked! happened all over amerikkka
