opened up ravelry to look at patterns and the very first thing i saw was
The Garment by Robert Cole
I had to immediately look for myself and I feel like this post needs the addition of the very first line in the pattern description
is there anything funnier than somebody who has a tumblr account trying to seem like theyre above fandom

Let's steal ourselves a secret good final episode.
This was a long time ago, but I remember somebody once looked on AO3 for Leverage “fix-it” fics and found that a) very few existed and b) the ones that did exist were all crossovers where Leverage was used to fix problems in OTHER fandoms.
So yes, stealing secret good final episodes could be a whole Leverage crew side-gig
if you're sitting on a fanfic idea because you think it's "too weird" or "too niche" I need you to understand something: the internet is VAST and FULL of people with your exact brand of weird. that crackship that makes sense only to you? there are at least 50 people who will read it and go "oh my god FINALLY." but even if there were ZERO? you still deserve to write the thing that makes your brain light up.
I’m currently writing a multichapter fic for a fandom that is so niche it only has three fics on ffnet, and so dormant that it has none at all on ao3 (or at least none that I’ve been able to find).
At the moment I am basically the embodiment of that “you don’t know how desperate you are to read a certain type of fanfic until you are staring down an empty Word document” meme.
Am I taking a leap of faith that folks with my particular brand of weirdness about 15th-century France are going to find this thing when I’m ready to post it? Yes. But is it also making me ridiculously happy to write? YES.
Update: The fandom i was referring to above now has three fics on ao3. 😎 Granted, two of them are mine. But crucially, the third is not! Be the change you wish to see in the world.
Unusual but sympathetic paper:
Language Matters: What Not to Say to Patients with Long COVID, Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, and Other Complex Chronic Disorders
https://www.mdpi.com/1660-4601/22/2/275
I am a PA working in family medicine, and this is a very important paper. The only bit I do not agree with is “refer to an appropriate mental health professional instead of telling the patient they feel bad because they have depression/anxiety/PTSD etc.”
Up until quite recently I practiced in a VERY rural area with VERY sparse mental health resources. I therefore had to do A LOT of psychiatric med management and a fair amount of basic supportive counseling myself. Otherwise, this aspect of my patients’ care (and it very often IS an important aspect, particularly for fibromyalgia and dysautonomia in my clinical experience) would have gone unaddressed for six months or more.
The approach I usually take is to say “mental health/psychiatric comorbidities can make symptoms of CFS/dysautonomia/etc WAY worse, so how about we take a look at your meds for those and see if they are optimized.” This is something I STILL do even now that I’m working in a big city with more resources, because health professionals of all kinds often don’t get enough education on chronic, often-difficult-to-treat conditions like the ones outlined in the paper, and for all I know I might be unwittingly referring them to a psychiatrist who’s gonna throw five different pills at them all at once without listening to their individual concerns and call it a day.

I think we should figure out what age we’re living in now so we can say how it’s collapsing to each other
Our age of plastics is collapsing
Our age of information is collapsing! *remembers generative AI, nods to self* our age of information is collapsing.
We are living through the collapse of the Information Age.
may you heal so hard that you start exploring your hobbies again
So this has been a very bad week. I got a sky-high water bill (and subsequently discovered that there is a leaky water main somewhere under my front lawn), the AC unit upstairs crapped out last night, someone has been committing fraud with a credit card that I thought was deactivated MONTHS ago, my outside trash can is full of palmetto bugs, and two of the front desk staff at my job got into a physical fight today. In short, I’ve been wondering all week whether I made a terrible mistake moving to my current city and accepting my current job.
And then I remembered that I am currently 55k words deep into writing a fanfic that ONE HUNDRED PERCENT WOULD NOT EXIST if I were still at my previous job, in my previous town.
And I figure that’s gotta count for something, as far as my healing goes.
Can I speak my truth. I don’t think Brienne is even a little gay. I think she’s a kinsey zero who false positives on everyone’s radar. I think if you dropped brienne into new age 2024 she would get treated as a lesbian in her day to day life but whenever a woman liked her she’d be like. Ummmmmmm I’m really sorry but I don’t. Feel like that. I think she’d give lesbianism the good old college try bc of the direness of her male love life and come down firmly on the side of not attracted to women. I think she is quintessential pnw woman who you think is a slam dunk homerun lesbian based on everything about her who drops the word husband on you. I think she gets clocked on sight and mentions a partner named Jaime which makes people go. Okay. Partner i know that game. Jamie easily the name of a lesbian. Easily. And then she drops the he pronouns and you go. Well. Could still be a weird lesbian. And then Jaime is a business major in a frat with generational wealth. And HE is the kinsey five in the relationship.
#i love this post so much #every word of this #brienne is the source of so much queer heartbreak and has no idea #they are the big barda and mister miracle couple #where everyone has to do a little “okay then” #brienne thinks they're going “why is he with her” but it's the other way around and jaime is very smug about it #“why is she with you?” “because I'm better than you” ( @themarchrabbit)
Chapter 4 of “If The Heavens Ever Did Speak” is up!
“What The Water Gave Me.” The journey to Chinon continues, and the Vaucouleurs gang have their first serious run-in with the English, with tragic consequences.

Hey, at the very least, if a story has any amount of explicit sex, you know that wasn't written by AI.
Trusty porn writers, here to keep things authentic. 🖖
Languages tend to peak at their word for butterfly. Never seen 2 that are the same, either. Papillon. Mariposa. Borboleta. Fluture. Vlinder. Schmetterling. Pillangó. Babochka. Farfalla. Sommerfugl. Perhonen. Farasha. Titali. Chōchō. Nabi. Húdié. Buom buom. Great job guys, i really mean it.
It's such an amazing feeling when someone picks up on something in your writing that you 100% intended but didn't think people would notice. Like, YES!! My writing properly conveyed the thing it was supposed to!!! You are so awesome for noticing that!!! I am so awesome for writing that!!! I feel so good about my story now!!!!
Something I had to unlearn: giving your character a tragic backstory is not the same as giving them a wound. A backstory is just information. A wound is the thing that makes them flinch at something totally unrelated fifteen chapters later and the reader goes "oh." If the backstory doesn't leave a nerve ending somewhere in the present-day plot, cut it. Nobody needs the trauma. They need the flinch.
