He’d asked Charlotte Villiers to dance with him: an offer she had flatly refused. 

Edward couldn’t say that he blamed her. Despite that and despite having asked her on an impulse, he would be lying if he said the rejection hadn’t stung. But Edward prided himself on being able to say one thing and mean another. She may have wounded him, but he would be damned if anyone should suspect that she had. So he laughed off her dissmall as though it meant nothing at all. 

His countenance as jolly as ever, he approached Eleanor. She’d been standing alone, watching the others dance, looking as in need of a partner as he was. “It seems I cannot find a dancing partner for all the world,” He teased,“But you will dance with me, won’t you?” He asked, eyes sparking as he extended his hand out to her.

OOC | Diana & Edward

So in that Edward is an usher to the queen and Diana is one of her ladies, I imagine they see a good bit of each other!!  That being said, I’m really not sure how they’d interact!!  Diana is v trusting and kind but she messes up a loT and probs causes lots of stress bc she has no idea what she’s doing re: glorianus!!  City life!!!  She’s that one co-worker that you just sort of…sigh when she walks into work bc like????? she’s so nice!!!!! but godddd your day will be so much harder now ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ except that she also knows the queen better than the others so she might be the best w the boss?????  ANYWAY!!  She’s trying and she’s deF worse to deal w as a fellow lady-in-waiting than as an usher but yeah!!  There it is!  hahah  How do you think Edward might react to someone like her?

So ... originally, I was thinking that they would have a harmless friendly/flirty relationship but ... the more I think about it, I feel like he might actually hate her??? Edward is def a perfectionist when it comes to work and just wants!!! everything!!!! to be just ~so and I can see where Diana would definitely grate on him b/c she’s not up to the standards of everyone else and only has her job b/c of her connections and he feels like a mixture of frustration and envy???? like he had to work so hard to get here and it just kind of got thrown in her lap and from edward’s pov I feel like she seems a little careless and like she isn’t trying hard enough to improve herself to catch up with the others ... and yeah ... I feel like he’d try to be civil, at least, but he def has a temper and isn’t always patient and I can see him getting upset with her a lot.

So I’m guessing this is the first time these two are meeting?  (Though they def could’ve met at some other point, if you like!  Hugh obv has done quite a bit of traveling hahah)  If so, I can sort of see things going a couple different ways?

these two are both v active and fun-loving!!  they do lots of stupid stuff together!!  they have fun!!  everything is light and carefree and full of laughter!!

they have a competitive thing going!!  it’s probs lowkey unspoken but its def therE and their game of one-upsmanship is just…ridiculous bc neither of them are good at backing down from a challenge!!

they are enemies!!  they fight constantly!!  any time they spot each other they glower across the room!!  50/50% chance they end up in a duel asp!!

Ofc there’s a thousand variations coming off this, but those’re my general thoughts and, ofc, everything is complicated by the fact that Edward is the ~local lord~ to Elizabeth and has designs regarding that.  Hugh feels super indebted to Elizabeth and wants to be a source of help to her NOT harm and so obv if he ever learns what Edward’s up to that will be a problem for them!!

So…yeah…what’re your thoughts?

oKAY, So I’m actually feeling #3???!! I feel like they are going to hate each other just based on 1) edward feels like avenia needs to throw their support to the waynfletes and he feels that supporting the godolphins atp will only stir things up just when they’ve settled and yeah, 2) he def wants elizabeth’s farm and I feel like he and elizabeth don’t have a good relationship b/c of that (and other things haha) and I feel like that is definitely likely to color hugh’s opinion of him???? 

I feel like, in other circumstances, that they might ahve actually been friends and had more of a #1 with a mix of #2 relationship! but, yeah as it is, I feel like they hate each other and will probs actually fight atp. yay!! ;D

I see a very complicated relationship forming here!!  Cecil v much believes in always excelling, BUT while always maintaining honesty and honor.  As a result, he might seem to blow hot and cold with Edward, bc he’s seeing not only Edward’s achievement but also his means in terms of whether or not what he did was worthy.  So, if Edward (as far as Cecil did) was open and honest and generous in all his dealings, Cecil will congratulate him and encourage him to continue in this path, etc, etc.  However, if he sees him doing something in a way that Cecil (who is pr strict) views to be anything less than above board, he will consider the very same achievement he might otherwise have viewed to be prosperous and good as abhorrent.  As a result, how he behaves towards Edward correlates directly to how much he knows (in the cases where Edward is being underhanded).  

As a result, I think he probs views Edward as a bit frustrating bc he sees this person who has so much potential but lacks the discipline to do things the right way and he’s like *looks directly into the camera*  And if he ever catches him mistreating someone, he would be FURIOUS esp bc he feels that all of their actions in the service of the crown are also, therefore, a reflection ON the crown, which means that to behave unhorably is to besmirch not only the Queen’s honor but that of Avenia in general so his standards are VERY high hahaha  That being said, he always encourages ppl to achieve and excel, so it might seem like he’s talking out of both sides of his mouth when, in fact, he’s just v disciplines and comprehends a great deal in the notion, if that makes sense?

Yeah, I feel like Edward once thought like that, too, but it just didn’t work for him??? Liek at all??? Like everytime he did the honest or honorable thing, all it did was set him back two paces, so he was eventually like “screw that” and started using whatever means necessary to achieve his goals ... and like ... at first, I think he just wanted to do that whenever he had no other choice, but then it just became the easy thing and now he doesn’t always think twice. 

I do think that edward is actually a good person at his core, but he doesn’t even realize it, himself??? I think he just sees himself as a lost cause and trying to be good all the time gets him no where, so why bother???? And I 100% agree with Cecil that he has the potential to be!!! so much!!! better!!!!! but he can’t see that potential in himself :/ 

ALSO, I feel like he’s probably done a lot of things that cecil doesn’t know about???? (otherwise, he would have probably lost his post haha) 

And yeah, in addition, I also think that edward does see cecil as having unattainable standards!!!! like everything must be perfect!!!! and you must make it so by only doing it this way and nothing! else! will be tolerated and edward often sees cecil as requiring perfection 24/7!!!!! and i’ve been thinking about edward’s past, and I feel like he may have had an older brother who was his parents’ favorite and he could never be as good as him and so he’s super starved for success and just wants to achieve things!!!! and he’s going to do whatever he can to reach his ends!!!! I also feel like he’s pretty good at covering his tracks b/c he knows that he would be dismissed if a lot of his behaviors came to light.

I feel like these two are destined to get up to no good together hahaha  Regardless, though, Ria is so glad to have found someone w whom she can flirt endlessly and never once have to worry about feelings!!!!!  Ria is. not. good w emotions and this is so much more diverting that way!!  Anyway, I also feel like these two err on the side of too! much! plotting and idk what that may or may not lead to, exactly, but it’s def something to consider hahah

Also I feel like Edward gets into trouble a lot on his own, but I think that his doubly more likely to be up to no good when he’s with someone like ria (they probably just egg each other on #facepalm). 

BUT! Yes, Edward is honestly the same!!! His favorite thing is flirting with pretty girls and a lot of times, I feel like he leads them on (he acts like he doesn’t care about this, but deep down he does but it’s also fun to flirt so he’s not??? gonna stop????) but it is infinitely better to flirt w/ someone like ria who doesn’t take it seriously b/c then he can avoid future drama! (and also guilt) 

omgggg I can absolutely see them plotting!!! honestly, I think that edward feels that supporting the godolphins is the wrong choice and that it would just be a lost cause atp so he really thinks that arabella should side with the waynfletes, instead ... so I can see them (obviously) agreeing on this and perhaps plotting something to help put that in motion????? alSO edward is def eying elizabeth’s farm and ria isn’t so keen on elizabeth ... so I can see them doing something there, possibly, too????

okay, so Edward is a disasTER and honestly isn’t always the best person but!!!! I do think that he’s a better person that most people realize (including himself!!!) and I certainly feel like Eleanor is one of the few people who consistently sees the better side of him. William is one of his favorite ppl in the entire world and it’s hard to say, exactly, since we don’t have a William, but I feel like he and Edward grew up together and have been best friends since forever! And, as a result, he’s known Eleanor for most of her life. 

I think he probably views her as the sister he never had tbh??? Like he’s definitely super kind ot her and spoils her!!!!! I also think that he definitely teases her a lot and likes to get her to smile and just wants good things for her!!!! That being said, he has no idea!!!! that she has feelings for him?????? That would probably shock him (and not much shocks edward lol) He definitely thinks of her as being like 8 still lol

so I definitely feel like edward respects cecil a lot, but I also feel like he tries to one-up him in a lot of cases haha (I feel like edward is naturally super competitive and just wants to be!! the best!!!) I do think that there is probably a little bit of jealousy though, too, towards Cecil?? Like I feel like Edward sometimes uses underhanded means to get ahead and but he looks at Cecil and sees someone who is super successful and a good person??? (edward: how???) And because of all of that, I feel like his feelings towards Cecil are a little complicated????

honestly, he wants to be a better person than he usually is…but has no idea how to go about doing that

so he just goes about trying to rise - if he can’t be good, at least he can be the best he can be materially: at least he can be successful

and there’s much good and joy to be had from helping the queen, the court, and thereby the country, anyway

has real and true feelings for CHARLOTTE VILLIERS which, he knows, emerge from his better nature, but doesn’t think he deserves her
