Here’s how this debate breaks down for me. Pretend they switch places:

If Gandalf ran Hogwarts, he would have told Harry everything, made sure he was fully prepared and knew it, and Hogwarts would have been run pretty damn well. Hobbits are basically Huffelpuffs anyways.

If Dumbledore was in Middle Earth, he 100% would have joined Saruman (his ex-bf) in sharing the One Ring, “using it for the greater good,” which is the exact argument that Gandalf makes as to why he should never use it. Also this would lead to a lot of “they should have ridden broomsticks to Mordor” arguments.
