“Modernist manuals of writing often conflate story with conflict. This reductionism reflects a culture that inflates aggression and competition while cultivating ignorance of other behavioral options. No narrative of any complexity can be built on or reduced to a single element. Conflict is one kind of behavior. There are others, equally important in any human life, such as relating, finding, losing, bearing, discovering, parting, changing. Change is the universal aspect of all these sources of story. Story is something moving, something happening, something or somebody changing.”
— Ursula K. Le Guin (via jayemichaela)
for the fitzloved enjoyers
I think the peak Clex dynamic in identity porn fics is Lex having his usual obsession with Supes, and then a different, even weirder obsession with Clark Kent.
and the thing is i do think lex is pathetically in love with clark. like face down snivelling in his pillow jerking off because clark (eidetic memory) remembered his coffee order. no one has ever been as down bad as him
thought about fitz almost crying about having been left to die in prison and got so angry, it's just like the ending of assprentice. "oh we're so sorry fitz, we couldn't do anything about your uncle openly trying to murder you because he's a prince and you're just a bastard" -> "oh we're soo sorry fitz, we had to let you rot in prison because there's no way the queen could personally demand to see a lowly bodyguard freed" fuck you, chade!! you're a spymaster!! figure some fucking excuse out!! that's your job!! and how dare he overrule kettricken. and then he has the nerve to feel offended fitz doesn't trust him, when did he ever give him a reason to??
big fan of strattland being a little too comfortable in each others' space and weirding everyone else out completely straight-faced
once again thinking about Molly and Fitz🥹🥹
“Because the truth is, tech doesn’t have an image problem. It doesn’t have a message problem. It has an intention problem. What’s wrong with the axe murderer who broke into my house is not that he hasn’t successfully persuaded me to buy into his narrative. What’s wrong is that he’s trying to kill me with an axe. Similarly, when you launch a product that’s designed to put millions of people out of work, block access to sources of verifiable truth, replace human creativity with slop, and lower the barriers to every sort of atrocity, the problem isn’t that you haven’t told the public a good story about those things. The problem is that you are trying to do them.”

Everyone should be aware of nitter.net
for any address to twitter you can replace the “x.com” with “nitter.net” and you will be able to browse as if you have an account. Lifesaver.
Similarly, imginn.com works for most Instagram addresses. I still haven’t found one for Facebook.
the first thing you'll learn about me is that I'm a funny guy
the second thing you'll learn about me is that I'm always in some kind of nightmarish torture hell dimension
kind of obsessed with chivalry farseer. eats shit and dies to leave the bitter remnants of his polycule to raise his son. badly
clark kent ticking the organ donor box on his drivers license automatically out of the goodness of his heart and then panicking because what if he actually dies somehow and some human gets a super heart what would even HAPPEN like he can't have his kryptonian retinas with laser vision donated to a random eight year old and so he has to awkwardly go back to the DMV to get it changed to not an organ donor but he's so embarrassed the whole time because the DMV employees will think he's a bad person that by the time he's done he has to go cry in the car
The thing about Fitz that really tears me apart is how many things he is good at. Throughout the series you see all these jobs that come naturally to him: being a scribe, a stable master, a diplomat, even a soldier.
The only thing that he doesn't excel at is being an assassin. The only thing he's allowed to be.
the (apparently unintentional?) mirroring of the animal-talking magic in hobbverse with queerness/homophobia is truly an iconic and (unintentionally??) brilliant allegory because not only does fitz have multiple "I'm on the right track baby I was born this way" moments and not only is burrich the ultimate repressed closeted I-don't-want-you-to-suffer-as-I-have-so-I'll-beat-the-fairy-out-of-you internalized homophobia daddy but finally and most convincingly of all... people are only so prejudiced against it as cope. because having animal talking magic/being gay is obviously so far superior to the alternative. like to the point where it's abundantly obvious you (the common people) are only oppressing them because you're jealous. cope and seethe duchyfolk
the average ROTE meta post on tumblr: where do the fictional constraints of female oppression end and the real-world implications of RH's innately ingrained view on gender roles begin? How does the intersectionality of the Fool's gender expression and his need to manipulation circumstances to his/fate's advantage negatively and positively impact both the broader story and the overall message being projected throughout the work regarding gender non-conformity and the increasingly nebulous concept of "the one true self"? Is there such a thing as self determination or merely self-deception within varying layers of societal privilege? What does the positing of the inherently invasive Skill as a noble, desirable magic versus the far more mutually consensual Wit as a base and reprobate magic imply when examined through the lens of Wit as queerness and Skill as intimacy? Does authorial intent truly merit the final word in regard to widely recognized, consistent patterns of behavior and strong suggestions of undisguised desire between two apparently "platonic" friends? How does Hobb's attempt at commentary regarding societal oppression and cultures of violence fall short and what aspects of political upheaval and organized rebellion does she actually portray successfully?
the average ROTE meta post on Reddit: lol did anyone else fucking hate the Fool's guts? Did anyone else think Beloved was a conniving, evil, manipulative waste of space piece of shit who doesn't deserve to breathe the same air as Fitz, the perfect person, who has literally never done anything wrong as evidenced by his blameless First Person POV—
