this american crow is silver in appearance due to a genetic mutation known as leucism. frequently mistaken for albinism, which is a complete lack of melanin, leucistic animal retain some pigment; they may have lighter coloration overall, or they may have a ‘piebald’ appearance with lighter coloration on only some portions of the body. leucism can be detrimental to birds, as melanin is important for both eyesight and feather structure; leucistic birds may have poor vision and weak, easily breakable feathers. however, some birds make it to adulthood and lead full lives - it appears this individual even raised offspring.

This image was formed from two main sources from antiquity. The first being the head of Helios statue from Rhodes, which despite missing so much, is my favorite. The second source comes from a Stamnos in a private museum collection in Paris France. On which Helios is naked save for his himation/stola that has red trim of geometrical horses and the rest littered with "sun images." Again, I took a slight liberty in which I substituted the simplistic Suns with "Verginian Star" symbols, which look more like the sun in my humble opinion. (the same I did with Aether) The back shield depicts his lordship's 4 horses (only 3 can be seen due to the sun.) I was considering giving Helios boots, but something kept urging me to leave the feet alone.

It was actually Helios and Eos who were the very first gods that ever came to me and I bonded with. So, I have a very special relationship with them. I just wish Helios would be a bit more prominent in my life, right now, considering I live in Seattle WA.

Zeus is a wonderful God! (Aka he and his worshippers don't deserve hate, ever) I mostly worship him as Ktesios and Astrapaios but he's many things:

Zeus is a god of fate, of law and justice.

Zeus is a protecter, he is a king, he is a god of hospitality who protects fugitives, strangers and all who need it.

He is a just and fair God (even if we can't see it), he is the lightning, the thunder and the rain.

He is, many things but he is: The Good God

Aphrodite & Adonis 

This illustration was inspired by a mirror at the MFA in Boston depicting Aphrodite shielding Adonis with her veil. The scene in the mirror has more urgency to it, but I wanted to convey something a little more playful and romantic. 

There are many versions of this myth, particularly in the manner in which Adonis is killed. He is usually killed by a boar during a hunt, but who sends the boar and (in some cases) who that boar is, is up for debate. In some versions, it is Artemis sending a boar to take revenge on Aphrodite for killing one of her favorite mortals Hippolytus. Sometimes, Artemis tells Ares of Aphrodite’s affair and he turns into a boar and kills Adonis himself. Sometimes the messenger is Persephone, jealous that Adonis is spending his time with Aphrodite. After his death, Aphrodite created the anemone in his memory. In Ancient Greece, women would celebrate the Adonia in honor of his death. They would create small gardens which they would place on the roofs of their houses where the gardens would soon wither and die. Women would then publicly engage in ritual lamentation at the passing of Adonis on behalf of Aphrodite.
