WARNING: mentions of a family members death
3 days. 72 hours. 4320 minutes. That’s how long you hadn’t left your room in. That’s how long it had been since you last slept. That’s how long it had been since you had any human contact. That’s how long it had been since you lowered your father into the ground.
You physically couldn’t move. Your whole body felt numb. Your heart ached. You just wanted to turn back time, however, you knew that wouldn’t make a difference because your father had been sick and there was nothing anyone could do to help him.
The usual knock on your door that happened every hour echoed around your room, followed by your boyfriend’s voice. “(Y/N)? Are you hungry?”
You gave him no reply, which he expected and you heard him sigh. “Please open the door. It’s been three days, I just need to see you.”
It took you a few seconds to decide what to do, but eventually you dragged yourself out of bed and unlocked the door. You didn’t open it and instead returned to your bed, but moments later you felt the weight of Tobi as he sat on the end.
“I can’t stand seeing you like this,” he whispered, his hand gently moving up and down your back as he spoke. “I don’t even know what to say, because nothing is going to make you feel better. But, babe, lying in here for days on end is not doing you any good.”
“How do you know what’s good for me?” You snapped, the first words you spoke in days were bitter and cold. They didn’t sound right coming out of your mouth.
“I don’t,” Tobi spoke softly. “I just know that your dad wouldn’t want you locking yourself away from everyone. He w-”
“Don’t talk about him,” you quickly interrupted. “Just go.”
“(Y/N), please don’t shut me out,” Tobi pleaded. “Talking about things can sometimes help.”
“No, Tobi, I don’t want to talk!” You yelled, your sudden burst of noise causing him to jump slightly. “I’ve had enough! I want to be alone!”
“I’m not leaving!” Tobi yelled back and your eyes widened in shock as this is the first time you’d heard him raise his voice. “You’re trying to push people away, but that’s not what you really want. I get that you’re heartbroken and angry and tired, so you need to let it out! I’ve been sitting outside of this room for the past 3 days and not once have I heard you cry.”
It was true, you hadn’t cried since you found out that your dad had passed away. You didn’t have the energy to. You just felt drained.
“You’re strong, baby. You have to be,” Tobi continued, his voice calmer this time. “But right now, you don’t. Right now in this room you can break down, you can cry, you can scream, you can do whatever the hell you want and I’ll be right here to hold you. I’m not going anywhere, I promise.”
You stared at your boyfriend at a complete loss for words. You felt guilty for shouting at him, but that feeling soon went as absolute grief overcame you and tears all of a sudden sprung to your eyes.
“I just miss him, so much,” you spluttered out before bursting into tears.
Sobs shook your body and Tobi immediately scooped you up and placed you on his knee as you cried into his chest.
“I know you do,” he whispered into your hair. “I know.”
