Important Info for US University students in their Senior Year
If you guys took out federal student loans when you graduate and you arenât going to grad school you are required to do this thing called exit counseling. What this is is this goes over all the information you honestly should have been given prior as well as general information about loans and how your loans work. A huge part of it is looking at your estimated income and estimating what you would have to pay and for how long. Generally helpful stuff.
But
At the end of it youâre required to fill out your personal information, provide a contact for next of kin, and provide TWO references. Here you also select what kind of repayment plan you would prefer. While this isnât something to start worrying about in the fall semester, when it gets close to graduation you need start thinking about this cause the references canât be the same as next of kin, nor can they live together (if you were going to use your parents and they still live together for example).Â
Found this on facebook but reposting to SAVE A LIFE.
Or at least some of yâallâs GPAs.
Youâre welcome.
Holy shit? thanks op!
for comp sci, physics, math, etc p much everything is uploaded by authors to https://arXiv.org
also, use Unpaywall
(and sci-hub but I didnât tell you this)
Also there are many open access journals and databases that people will publish to. I used a lot of these during my undergrad even when I had access to a lot of articles through my universities library.
Hereâs a list of what I used/have seen!
Plos One - Primarily Science & mathsÂ
Directory of open Access Journals (DOAJ)Â DOAJ has over 13,000 journals in multiple languages. Iâve personally never used them but Iâve seen others use it to find appropriate journals.
Jstor - while jstor does still take memberships more articles are becoming open access and you can still make a free account
PubMed - again, not all articles are free but when searching youâre able to select a filter to see only free full texts
Jurn - Somewhat google esc database but you can search any topic you want and itâll find it
I think every writer/artist has that one story/drawing that gets completely skipped over, and theyâd never say it aloud, but inside theyâre like
âfuck all y'all, thatâs one of the best things Iâve doneâ
plus one story/drawing that everyone loves
âreally? that one?â
This is gospel right here and itâs BAFFLING.
Some clothing items come with stitches that are MEANT to be removed
I see this happen often enough that I donât think this falls under common knowledge, and I didnât see a previous post on this topic. So here goes!
Some clothes have stitches that only serve a temporary purpose and are MEANT to be removed. Here are some examples:
The one that more people know about: pockets being sewn shut, especially on dress pants and blazers. The pockets are sewn shut to keep the garment flat and neat during shipping and display. You can tell that pocket stitches are temporary and not permanent (like for fake pockets) in two ways: first, the stitches will be big and loose compared to other stitches on the garment, and secondly, the pocket will have a physical âbagâ or some other encapsulation of fabric on the underside that shows that something is meant to be put in it. Fake pockets will just have the outline of the pocket opening on the underside.
A less-famous example: Blazer vents and skirt slits being sewn closed. Iâm referring to when the back bottom edge of a blazer, coat, or skirt has a split, slit, or flap in it. They are often sewn closed with a big, loose, âXâ of thread, again to keep the garment flat and neat during shipping and display, but definitely meant to be cut when you get home. If they DONâT get cut, then the garment canât separate and move where it is supposed to, and it forms a binding, bunched-up shape around the rear end which you do NOT want, trust me. The number of thread Xs I see walking around my city is frustrating, to say the least.
Another one: Branding tags sewn on coat sleeves. This one is understandable, because many garments have branding sewn on the sleeve that is more of a fashion statement and meant to be there. However, many dress coat, blazer, and outerwear brands will sew a small label towards the end of the sleeve, so that the brand can be displayed while they are on a display rack, but itâs meant to be taken off later. You can tell the difference by the stitching: temporary tags will have only a few loose stitches on either end, while permanent tags will usually have tight, small stitching all around the border.
Depending on the type of garment and its unique details, there may be other temporary stitches to contend with, but again, stitches that are meant to be cut are usually much bigger and looser than their neighbors, and the thread stands alone with no reinforcement or connection to the rest of the garment.

You know those movies about those little nerd boys who get with really hot girls, and those girls eventually learn to settle for a little nerd boy because heâs kinda nice sometimes? Propaganda.
You know those movies and shows where the little nerd girl has to change absolutely every aspect that makes her, her, starting by her appearance, so she can get the really hot boy, while when itâs the other way around the girl just settles with the nerd boy? Propaganda.
The message?
Men are to be accepted as they are, women are to change or to settle.

How to Handle Having TOO MUCH To Do
So letâs say youâre in the same boat I am (this is a running theme, have you noticed?) and youâve just got, like, SO MUCH STUFF that HAS to get done YESTERDAY or you will DIE (or fail/get fired/mope). Everything needs to be done yesterday, youâre sick, and for whatever reason you are focusing on the least important stuff first. What to do!
Take a deep breath, because this is a boot camp in prioritization.
Make a 3 by 4 grid. Make it pretty big. The line above your top row goes like this: Due YESTERDAY - due TOMORROW - due LATER. Along the side, write: Takes 5 min - Takes 30 min - Takes hours - Takes DAYS.
Divide ALL your tasks into one of these squares, based on how much work you still have to do. A thank you note for a present you received two weeks ago? That takes 5 minutes and was due YESTERDAY. Put it in that square. A five page paper thatâs due tomorrow? That takes an hour/hours, place it appropriately. Tomorrowâs speech you just need to rehearse? Half an hour, due TOMORROW. Do the same for ALL of your tasks
Your priority goes like this:
5 minutes due YESTERDAY
5 minutes due TOMORROW
Half-hour due YESTERDAY
Half-hour due TOMORROW
Hours due YESTERDAY
Hours due TOMORROW
5 minutes due LATER
Half-hour due LATER
Hours due LATER
DAYS due YESTERDAY
DAYS due TOMORROW
DAYS due LATER
At this point you just go down the list in each section. If something feels especially urgent, for whatever reason - a certain professor is hounding you, youâre especially worried about that speech, whatever - you can bump that up to the top of the entire list. However, going through the list like this is what I find most efficient.
Some people do like to save the 5 minute tasks for kind of a break between longer-running tasks. If thatâs what you want to try, go for it! Youâre the one studying here.
So thatâs how to prioritize. Now, how to actually do shit? Thatâs where the 20/10 method comes in. Itâs simple: do stuff like a stuff-doing FIEND for 20 minutes, then take a ten minute break and do whatever you want. Repeat ad infinitum. Itâs how Iâve gotten through my to do list, concussed and everything.
Youâve got this. Get a drink and start - we can do our stuff together!
WOAH THIS SOUNDS HELPFUL. IâM GOING TO TRY THIS IMMEDIATELY. Also, I made a chart for myself, but if anyone else wants it for reference (or if this is wrong and I misread you can tell me) here it is:
i keep forgetting where to find this but itâs so helpful
Wish Iâve known about this sooner

THE LOVE SHORE KICKSTARTER HAS LAUNCHED!
Love Shore is a visual novel game that takes concepts weâve always loved in sci-fi, action, and horror and blends them together to create something wild. It features a queer, diverse cast, a seemingly endless city, and a story of coming into yourself and doing what you think is rightâŚwith a heavy dose of drama and violence mixed in for good measure.
You can download our demo on our kickstarter! It features the âFirst Chapterâ of Love Shore and acts as a World/Character introduction to showcase the art, music and storytelling that will be present in the completed game.Â
Love Shore is made by a diverse team who wanted to make games that had characters like themselves in them. We hope you enjoy it and consider supporting us!
KICKSTARTER LINK!
Can I romance them
You sure can!!!
From the Kickstarter: Love Shore features two playable protagonists with four romanceable options, each with their own storylines. The cast is entirely LGBT+.
Hi everyone! Mod Cristaly here promoting this again cause 9 days until the Kickstarter ends!
I played the demo and am so so excited about the eligible bachelorettes available in Farahâs route!
The demo takes 30 minutes to play. If you like visual novels and are desperate for LGBT content in the genre: Iâm sure youâll like it! The art is stunning and thereâs gods and kidnappings and hot people to kiss.
I think I want to romance Imani? Or Maya? I canât pick, but you should play and tell me who wins you over :)
So me my mom and my moms cousin went out for dinner and were eating and thereâs a family in the booth next to us and theyâre talking about how his family came from Germany and he mentioned his father came from some small town in Germany (said the name I donât remember what it was) but it was one of those small towns where everyone knows everyone itâs super tiny.
So my moms cousin goes âIâm sorry I donât mean to eavesdrop but my family is from there.â And this guy looked so excited and they start chatting for a bit and the guy goes âWhat was your family name?â And she goes âZimmerman.â And the guy gets suuuuuper quiet and goes ââŚâŚ oh.â Like flat tone nothing.
She goes âWhatâs yours?â And he quietly tells her but wonât look at her and she goes quiet and goes âOh.â And goes back to her food and the tables got SUPER awkward and tense and Iâm sitting there going âWtf is going on?â Cause they both suddenly stopped talking to each other.
On the way out Iâm âWhat was that about?â She goes âIâll tell you in the car.â So we get in the car and Iâm like âOkay wtf was all that about?â
She goes âMy great grandfather assassinated his grandfather.â
Iâm like O_O âŚâŚâŚ.
Wow I havenât posted on here in forever.Â
I guess now is a good time to start since itâs the beginning of the semester?
Iâm not even a real person during the last two weeks of semester this bitch empty yeet
