Inklings and Octolings can both comfortably move with a "plantigrade" or "digitigrade" gait, (technically the wrong terms, as neither have bones) but due to cultural differences Inklings tend to walk digitigrade, while Octolings tend to walk plantigrade.
Octolings are all venomous.
Octolings can technically eat the shells of things like clams, crabs, and lobsters, but actually doing so is uncommon, in the same way as eating shrimp shells is for humans.
Octolings are much more likely to try new foods than Inklings. With less things available you begin to get more creative.
Inklings have claws, unlike Octolings, but literally all they do is manicure/paint them nowadays.
Fuzzy Ooze tends to partially solidify the cartilaginous segments of an Inkfish's "skeleton", and drastically increases the papillae count of Octarians.
Octolings, as a result of reproducing almost exclusively via cuttings, don't naturally have many male members of the species. Males are actually a result of genetic mutation during growth from a cutting. Males, as a result of this, are more likely to have inert cuttings, even if all the criteria needed to grow an Octarian, Octoling or not, are maintained.
Octolings are generally big fans of escape rooms.
On at least one occasion, a Salmonid has been cooked and eaten during a Salmon Run. (They're fine with this it's cultural)
Splatting is a defensive, and mostly unintended, form of forced superjump. Respawn devices, as a result, do not actually respawn Inkfish, but instead serve as an anchor point to automatically aim towards rather than go flying.
Inkfish can technically swim, but due to a mix of varying instincts, issues with texture, and simple cultural traits, very few ever learn how.

Octoling cuisine still uses axolotls widely in contrast to Inklings, which rarely use it.
Inkling as a term includes both squid and cuttlefish descended Inkfish.
