I actually recommend everyone write for a rarepair once because it completely changes your relationship with fandom. Engagement stops being numbers and starts being names. You know who's going to show up. You recognize usernames. Someone disappears for a while and then comes back and you're like “OH MY GOD WELCOME HOME.” It's incredibly wholesome. It is also deeply inconvenient when all six of you simultaneously get writer's block-
armand, his eyes enormous: you MOCK armand? you make fun of his traumas on the stage? oh! oh! suicide for the band! suicide for the band for One Thousand Years!!!!
dm aside that entire daniel/armand exchange was so funny because “did you actually not get tortured by me?? was none of it real???” “noo babe ofc you tortured me, you tortured me so well you’re so good at torture”

POLY CROWS but! the "starting couples" are different, who do you think would fall first? (imo i see inej and jesper being one of the firsts??? maybe inej and nina??? oh the possibilities.....)

Okay so I have totally thought about this before, but I'm about to say something very controversial:
the first couple to catch feelings for each other (and now, the couple with the most history in this polycrows au) is Jesper and Kaz, and I feel like they'd be each other's first kiss in this. Also, the idea of Jesper still spilling his guts about the heist and almost getting Inej killed stings worse if Kaz and Jesper are in love with each other. The idea of Kaz having to force Jesper into revealing his powers stings worse if Kaz loves Jesper. There is a lot of yummy angst possibilities if Kazper is a canon couple already by the start of the book, and the forgiveness they share for each other at the end of the book would be all the more impactful.
Then, I feel like Inej and Nina would be crushing on each other during the first book and officially confessing their feelings for each other/becoming a couple in the second book. They'd have the wesper "tentative-friends-to-lovers" arc now, and the parallel of Nina nursing Inej back to health on the way to Fjerda only for Inej to nurse Nina through her withdrawals on the way home from Fjerda could be really poetic. The kind of "It's rotten work to take care of me." - "Not to me, not if it's you." sentiment.
And lastly I think Wylan and Matthias could have the "love at first sight" collision during the first book and dance around their feelings for each other until the second book. They have such a sweet and gentle friendship in canon and I think they would be so good to each other. I feel like the deep-rooting angst of Wylan's relationship with his father and Matthias's relationship with Brum parallels each other in a very interesting way, and I think they could provide perspectives into each other's situations that are uniquely honest.
Of course, since this is polycrows, this doesn't exclude the canon couples from also forming along the way (as well as any other ships) but if I had to rewrite the books without using the canon couples this is how I'd do it.

(for 22 let's go with what are their bedtime habits and how do they sleep together)
Thank you for your service 🫡
No because I'm actually so into this and so fucking here for it okay okay
4. What does their life look like together today? (unless they aren't alive this year)
Because I'm in charge of how I get to answer this question I'm taking "life looks like together today" to mean in a canon-compliant universe: i.e., not any of my omegaverse/modern/ghosthunting aus. so like okay.
First off, they are totally the 'it' couple of Ketterdam. They are diabolical together. Kaz keeps Wylan ruthless, Wylan keeps Kaz merciful, and together they are cracking their knuckles and diving into bringing forward the changes they want to see in Ketterdam. They're lobbying for disability rights and resources, they're holding Merchers accountable for their actions, they're cleaning the streets of the Barrel and providing room for a new age of infrastructure that Jan Van Eck could only fucking dream of from his grossy icky cell in Hellgate. Together they make Ketterdam the kind of place they had both dreamed it could be when they were children. Together they make it a city for children to be safe in, which was something neither of them got to have.
Kaz reads to Wylan (obvi), Kaz writes for Wylan (both in the professional sense for their work, and also to stay in touch with Jes and Inej sailing the seas together, Nina in Fjerda, Kuwei in Ravka, etc, etc). but I want to be very clear too that Kaz is Wylan's muse. Yes, Kaz is Wylan's literary crutch, but he's also a deep source of inspiration for Wylan. Paintings and charcol sketches of a familiar scheming face line Wylan's art studio, music swirls around the estate fast and loose just as Dirtyhands is known to fight like, Kaz's favorite mug is a lopsided mess of a creation that Wylan had made for him the first time he tried throwing something on the potter's wheel. Kaz is as much of a fixture in the joys of Wylan's life as he is in the necessities of Wylan's life.
Kaz and Marya are very close as well, and he has a weekly brunch date with her to gossip and drink tea together. I don't think Kaz can remember much of his own mother, but he finds Marya to be a brilliant and steadfast woman that he comes to trust just as deeply as he does Wylan.
I also think Wylan and Kaz slowly start to build up on Kaz's skinship phobia, but I feel like Wylan has a uniqueness to him in that he understands how to live life around a disability, and while touchphobia is not a disability in the traditional way I feel like Wylan would get very creative to show how much he loves Kaz while making an effort to remove the pressure Kaz would feel to reciprocate physical intimacy. If Kaz was willing to learn Wylan's music-theory approach to labeling his chemicals in the lab, Wylan could in turn learn how to reach a boy who feels utterly unreachable.
They're both smart as shit. Even if it takes them the rest of their lives, they will come to map and cherish every inch of each other - inside and out.
20. Where in the world would they travel together?
I know it's a cop-out for me to give the same answer that I gave for Kaztthias, but I feel like with the money these two have to spare they travel the world. Especially since their closest friends are spread out all over the world as well, trust that they'd take every opportunity to visit Pirate captain Inej and her first mate Jesper Fahey, they'd go visit Colm in Novyi Zem (and they'd take Marya too, so she could see some of the world outside of Jan's shadow for once), they'd visit Nina and Kuwei (just so Wylan could show off his hot boyfriend), they'd just... they'd allow themselves to see the world unafraid now that they have fought against their demons and persevered.
22. What are their bedtime habits and how do they sleep together?
I wish I could draw you a diagram of how they sleep but I imagine it goes like this, because these dudes are so fucking neurodivergent and you KNOW they have a routine. Like, okay, to be fair - they don't have a schedule, because Wylan's mind and his cptsd keeps him up at odd hours tinkering away in his lab or painting or whatever else he feels he needs to do and Kaz is a literal demon who is always up to something. They do not run by any man-made timetable, but they do have a routine.
I feel like whichever one of them makes it back to the Estate first starts a kettle boiling, gets the tea blends ready to steep, feeds their cats, water their plants, so on. Whoever shows up later is the one to turn down the bed for the night, locks up the house, and cleans up any messes. They always make sure to shower together though so that they can wash each other's hair and rub each other's backs, though sometimes Wylan makes sure to wrap his hands with the towel so his wet skin doesn't brush against Kaz's. They get soft and cozy in their jammies and sit in bed together. They give each other status reports of everything that had happened since they'd last seen each other, Kaz combs Wylan's curls so they remain healthy and springy, Wylan does a face mask and begs Kaz to join him (he will not, he does not need goo on his face thankyouverymuch).
I think sometimes Kaz would read to Wylan, or sometimes Wylan would sing for Kaz, but sometimes they just sit together in comfortable silence until they fall asleep.
I think Kaz is a blanket hog, I think Wylan has perpetually icy-cold feet, I think they have a line of pillows between them on the days Kaz can't bear the weight of another person so close but TRUST that Kaz can no longer sleep without Wylan in the room/somewhere nearby and vice versa. On the days either boy has to travel for work, the other is left sleepless and restless. That's usually when most of the home projects get tackled. Sometimes though, especially after sex, they cuddle for the entire night - and trust Kaz is like a fucking octopus when that happens.
im so obsessed with the idea that kaz just reads everything for wylan, but in such a natural way that everyone forgets that it's because wylan can't read, and kaz kind of forgets that everyone else can read
kaz bringing in the newspaper saying 'look at this', slamming the paper down on the table for for everyone to see and announces the headline 'pekka rollins shits himself in the harbour'. it's just instinctual to read it out, even though everyone else at the table can read what it says
kaz going to restaurants with the crows and handing wylan a menu saying 'they've got that herb chicken you like'. then he scans it again and points to a couple of things that he also knows wylan likes, and it's so causal and conversational and wylan doesn't feel scrutinised, or as though he's being looked after
(kaz also starts point out things the others like before remembering that they can read the menu and then just stops talking)
kaz and wylan going to coffee shops and kaz goes 'what do you think you're gonna get' before they get there so that wylan doesn't panic inside the shop. and he doesn't leave room for wyan to ask him to read things out, because kaz knows he hates doing that. so they go and kaz just says 'you want syrup in your coffee? they've got vanilla, caramel, or hazelnut'
and it's just so easy and instinctual. it makes wylan feel normal, because being read to isnt a big part of what's going on. kaz just manages to easily slip it into conversation without thinking, as though he does it with everyone
(now imagine wylan isn't there and kaz begrudgingly gets waffles with another member of the dregs (he's getting soft) and immediately goes 'what sort of syrup do you like? because they've got apple, strawberry or chocolate, but it does say you can get a mix' and the dreg is like 'i know? the menu is right in front of me?' and kaz just kind of realises that he doesn't even think about doing it anymore)
(also imagine him getting a letter and some of the higher ranked dregs need to know about it, and instead of just giving them it to read, kaz starts just reading it out, and all of the other dregs are like 'isn't it easier is we just read it ourselves?' and kaz just pauses and wonders when he actually started hanging out with wylan so much that he's the only person he knows how to talk to)
