After being saved from drowning by Athothlo when she was younger, Aoi has faithfully served as his eyes and ears into the material plane, reporting everything she sees to him. She’s a little hesitant to reveal her identity as a warlock, afraid that their negative reputation may cause people to be afraid of her. However, if she feels that it’s safe to reveal this, she’ll be much more comfortable talking about her patron and what she does.

Athothlo, the Primordial Beast

An old and powerful primordial monster, Athothlo is a powerful beast living in the elemental plane of water. A long time ago, he was once worshipped by a civilization that revered him as a god. However, when their city collapsed and his last warlock died, he lost connection to the material plane. With the help of Aoi, he seeks to learn more about the material plane, catch up on what he’s missed, and keep an eye out for potential cults of elemental evil that wish to make fire take dominance over other elements.

He cares a lot for Aoi, and not just because she’s his eyes into the material plane— she’s like a daughter to him. He checks in on her via her dreams and makes sure she’s doing alright, offering comfort and advice whenever she needs it. Aoi is one of, if not the only person he’s been able to talk to for thousands of years, and it would break his heart of something happened to her.

misconception: bards dont get their magic from playing their instrument well

bards are storytellers. they sing about legends of old and keep up oral tradition with their music.

oral tradition is powerful and sparks the origin of magic itself and a bard gets their magic from how connected they are to the oral tradition of magic itself. which is why all bards get “Magical Secrets” where they can learn a spell from any spell list, that’s their connection to the origins of magic. Theyre connection goes past the years of studying a wizard or artificer does, it goes past the divine worship of clerics and paladins. It bypasses the innate powers of sorcerers. It’s stronger than the deals warlocks have made. The connection is deeper than the primal and holistic connections that druids and rangers have.

that’s why their spellcasting ability is charisma, it’s a connection from within themselves that gives them the power to cast spells, it’s their own innate talent to speak the myths of old in such a way that they can weave the magic from those oral traditions, the basis of most magic, to their will and cast spells with it.

similar to how a wizard practices and memorizes sigils and incantations to perform their magic, bards practice the original tellings of the first forms of magic, because those myths and legends have magical incantations laced in their words and music already. before a person learns to speak, they sing. when a person learns to walk, the first thing they do is dance. a bards magic comes from what magic was before academia, study and piousness. it comes from within and it is entrancing, which is why so many bards are charasmatic.

bards are not the horny class and anyone who plays a bard ONLY as horny is not doing bards justice. bards are charismatic, not because theyre horny but for similar reasons that sorcerers are charasmatic. it’s innate. sorcerers can have no social skills and still be charasmatic. bards can have no social skills and still be charasmatic. bards are one of the best classes in my opinion and anyone who bashes bards can’t be trusted.

Ok so here's a concept.

If you have a world where sorcerers, wizards, and warlocks exist, you're going to have magic schools for the wizards. In the same way you might ask a fighter for their guild card before employing them, or check a cleric's holy symbol, there might well be some sort of official qualification that gets looked for in wizards. Given that sorcerers and warlocks tend to be somewhat rarer than wizards in these settings, asking for wizard qualifications would likely be routine for any of these spellcasters (I imagine bards have their own thing going)

So what I'm saying is that magic schools should have facilities for warlocks and sorcerers, or have some sort of exam thing where a sorcerer can show up, take it, and get a qualification without having to be taught spells that come to them naturally

Did anyone ever wonder what Deimos would look like with long hair? Well, our deep gnome Ijech did! And she used the Major Image spell to showcase that to the whole party. And as you can see on the last panel: she also adds earrings, since she thinks they look good on elves haha.

It was a cute scene in our DnD campaign! Faeyra (our firbolg) was all: “Ohh, he looks like a girl now.”

yeah people make jokes about horny RPG bards all the time but seriously you don’t have to be sexual or suave or seductive in any way when playing a bard

I’m writing this post because I literally had to assure my asexual player that playing an tiefling bard that is also asexual is absolutely fine and tell them that bard doesn’t have to be seductive

I just had this dumb idea for a good-aligned (or neutral) Undead/Undying Warlock patron:

Picture a dracolich, but a dracolich that never wanted to become one. Rather, it used to be just a good and benevolent metallic dragon, until the Cult of the Dragon captured it and turned it into a lich against its will. It now searches for vengeance against those who did this to it… While also making pacts with like-minded individuals who could use some of its power for their own goals, as long as they don’t mind returning the favor if the dragon ever calls for their aid.

Yes, it’s dumb, like I said (The lich transformation ritual could only be done voluntarily last time I checked), but I still couldn’t get it out of my mind. It seemed cooler in my head…
