Artists, very validly so: Hey please rb my art instead of just liking it, it really helps me out! <3
Me, liking it and adding it to my queue: Bestie you’re gonna have to trust me here
Still hungry?
Absolutely!
The average active adult needs 2,000 calories per day in order to function in a safe and healthy manner. If I’m active to the point where I consistently run 1+ hour every day, then it is far more likely that my caloric needs are around 2,400-2,500.
Considering that, a meal of 1,200 calories would perfectly suit my needs. It would supply roughly half of my calorie requirements, which is a God-send since a fast food meal is relatively cheap. It’s a great value, especially if I don’t have much time to cook or have the resources to prepare my own meals!
The average burger is going to supply me with significant protein and carbs. That’s exactly what I’d need in order to build more muscle and have enough energy to make it through a workout. Even the sugar within the meal can be beneficial in supplying me with a boost of energy and can stop me from feeling hungry for a prolonged period of time. Not half bad.
Is this the most healthy meal known to man? Of course not. But it’s still a very reasonable deal and the calorie count is well within the average adult’s daily needs.
Don’t let calories scare you! You need them. If you were capable of burning off an entire meal within the hour, you’d probably be dead by now.
1200 empty calories in a meal
next to no nutrition. all the calories are sugar and fat. that’s it. you’ll have no energy and have glucose spikes in your blood because the lack of fiber because of the lack of complex carbs. this is diabetes in a meal.
so no, you should not be hungry for diabetes
Nutritionally, this BK meal contains roughly 28g of protein and 3g of dietary fiber. It potentially also includes 35% of our Vitamin C daily requirements, 2% Vitamin A, 12% calcium, and 27% iron. Of the 1,010 calories (that I could verify directly from the company’s nutritional information guide), only 410 are from fat. That isn’t a terribly significant amount of fat, in the long run, nor are the nutrients small enough to be viewed as negligible.
Eating this will not cause you to get diabetes. Eating this meal is perfectly fine if you do have diabetes, as long as you are able to adjust your insulin intake accordingly. So don’t use an illness as your debate point - Diabetic people are not a prop.
“So don’t use an illness as your debate point - Diabetic people are not a prop.” I want that and variations of that on t shirts.
It’s important we stop telling people it’s better to starve than have “empty calories” or whatever. People need to eat, fast food is cheap and easy, and some people really need that.
Let’s break it down the way you’re supposed to teach toddlers:
Some foods do lots of good things for your body, and some foods do only a few good things. You want to eat lots of the ones that do lots of good things, and only some of the ones that do some of the good things. Anytime food and sometimes food.
It’s literally that simple. All food has value (except for poisons like alcohol, but that’s a rant for another time).
There’s no such thing as an ‘empty calorie,’ because calories are, by nature, full of something– energy! For your body! That’s what a calorie is, a measure of how much energy it gives your body. Ideally you get other essential nutrients with each calorie, but even so, your body requires those calories to function, so if it has calories, it’s doing something positive for your body.
For anyone who needs to hear this: Your body is literally designed to need and use sugars and fats and carbs (which are another form of sugars). Please don’t let the fanatic diet police type people scare you into refusing what your body needs. Obviously eating a full BK meal like that for every meal every day would not be ideal; it would probably give you more calories than you need, and does not include all the essential nutrients you need, so you’d become malnourished if that’s literally all you ate. But we all know that’s not what’s being talked about here. You will not do irreparable damage to your body from eating fast food. You do not have to feel guilty or ashamed for eating fast food or other commonly-referred-to-as-junk foods.
It is WAY more important to your overall health to eat something that’s ‘unhealthy’ (though the correct term is less nutritionally complete) than to eat nothing, or to eat insufficient amounts of something ‘healthier’.
(Also, tangentially related side note, humans evolved to be super efficient at running, so of course it doesn’t burn that many calories. If it did, our persistence-hunting ancestors would have died out. Just sayin)
When I was younger, I wish someone had told me straight-up that not all adults experience “a calling”. That many of them never find particular purpose in a career. That sometimes, their job is just what pays the bills and they have to seek satisfaction and fulfillment elsewhere.
Because as an adult, this pervasive notion that there exists a perfect path for everyone, that people should love what they do, and that work is meant to function as a vehicle for fulfilling a person’s grand life destiny is not only inaccurate for many of us, it can be toxic.
The ideal is so ingrained that I have to remind myself constantly I’m not a failure because I don’t adore my job, and because I’m not rocking the world with my work. That is okay.
Sometimes, work is just work. There isn’t always a perfect career path, magically waiting to be discovered. There might not be this THING you were born to do. Sometimes, you discover that what you really want to be when you grow up is “paid”.
and something else: your career doesn’t have to be your calling. you can do what you love (writing, music, drawing, knitting) as a hobby. it doesn’t have to pay the bills. it’s okay to do an office job and then go home to your hobby. there are different paths to passion.
shoutout to disabled people who aren’t exactly sure what their disability is, disabled people who aren’t diagnosed yet but know something’s off, and disabled people who are struggling but can’t get any help because of a lack of diagnosis, access to resources, or anything else. shoutout to disabled people who are silently and invisibly disabled and have a hard time getting people to believe them, and who have difficulty managing their symptoms because they’re not sure what the problem is stemming from. it’s hard, but i see you, and im so glad you’re here. it’s over-said but your experience is valid. you deserve support and to be believed.
every single person you know has something in their life and past that is probably worth collapsing to the ground in an uncontrollably sobbing heap over, so be nice to each other and tell good jokes
“fandoms are dying”
yeah well here’s a cool idea: start creating and start reblogging. leave nice comments to your favorite creators. send them prompts. start interacting with others. sounds wild, right? start it today. keep these fandoms alive.

You know that trope where two people in modern/ordinary world go to a museum and get mesmerized by a painting of some ancient heroes couple that look exactly like them and then meet each others eyes?
I yell every time
This is a map of the range of all giraffe species. By my count that puts them in just 16 countries out of the 54 in Africa (of which 5 are island countries with no territory on the continental mainland). That's 30%, quite a long way shy of all, and as you can see many of those countries that do have giraffes only have a tiny portion of their territory within giraffes' habitats
Wow, I knew they weren't in "every African country", but I didn't realize just how restricted their range was
Good teachers don't mind saying "I don't know" or that they need to look it up and will get back to you.
Not only that but giraffes in different areas have different patterns and it's so cool
Masai giraffes look cool af

my two categories of anime rec are “it’s okay if you don’t really like anime, you’ll probably like this” and “this will not make any goddamn sense to you if you have not wasted years of your life on trash”
y’all took about five minutes to turn this into some kind of contentious madoka post when i was just sitting here innocently contemplating the spectrum from miyazaki to the bread anime
Okay, so, I feel like I should explain the greatest invention of the modern age…that was produced by my apartment. We call it, the Weeb Ass Shit scale, after our traditional method of asking what anime somebody was watching (”What Weeb Ass Shit is this?”) It grades a given Anime from 0-10 on three different methods: Weeb, Ass, and Shit. An individual will have different degrees of tolerance for various levels on the different scales. 0 is low, 10 is high. Weeb is the degree to which the show assumes a familiarity with japanese pop culture or anime tropes in general, not only in terms of the actual content of the show, but occasionally at a conceptual level. Hyperspecialized high schools with all-powerful student councils, for example, add a couple points to the Weeb scale. Same goes for the presence or use of tropes that would be bizzare and off putting if you weren’t used to seeing such things in other anime.
A zero on the Weeb scale could be enjoyed by somebody who doesn’t even know that Japan exists, a 10 assumes the audience possesses a PhD in japanese cultural studies with a focus on animation. Something like Cowboy Bebop comes in at a 1, while I’d put Kill-La-Kill at a 6. Anything of the form “These Girls are anthropomorphic versions of something else” rates at least a 7 in my book. Next comes the Ass Scale. Put simply, how much Fanservice is in the show. busty character design, male-gaze camera angles, skimpy outfits, hot spring episodes, character A tripping and landing in a compromising position on top of character B, all that nonsense. At a 0, you’ve got something you would watch with your Grandmother after church (Miyazaki’s stuff comes in at a 0). Finally, the Shit scale, which covers general overall quality. A 0 indicates that the show is flawless, a 10 holds that you would rather sandpaper your own face than watch it. It should be noted that the Shit scale should be judged independent of the others. Too much T&A shows up on the Ass scale. Proper use of this scale is in the form W/A/S. For example, Shokugeki no Soma (Aka Food Wars) would come in at W 4/ A 6/ S 3
