Kate Bush - The Dreaming (1982)

On this day—September 13th, 1982—The Dreaming, the fourth studio album by Kate Bush, was released. Generally considered the her most unconventional and experimental release, The Dreaming, recorded over a period of two years, was Bush’s first entirely self-produced album. Though the album peaked at no. 3 in the UK, it was met with mixed critical reviews and was Bush’s lowest selling album at the time, but it was also her first album to make an appearance on the Billboard Top 200, thanks to the rise of college radio in the States. Though somewhat bewildering to critics in the 80s, the album’s reputation has grown significantly in the years since with many praising the album’s warmth, experimentation, and quirk as a worthy predecessor to her next album—1985’s Hounds of Love.
