we're far too culturally obsessed with men who are mean and rough around the edges but turn out to be big softies underneath it all when, in reality, most men who are like this are simply dicks
i was like 'it's weird the way everyone is doing free pr for the catholic church rn just bc the pr for the new pope has already been that good' and someone was like 'wait? why don't you like the pope? did something happen?' i feel insane i'm not exaggerating i didn't even know what to say?? 'did something happen?' yes the last 2 thousand years of global history, and no, going back 2,000 years in catholic history is not dramatic because it's remained consistently that bad throughout and in fact i do think the church should answer for every single century of its sins while all of its assets are returned to the people from which they were stolen and its global power is dissolved.
also can’t get over that guy who said he WOULD just identify as a straight trans man but he doesn’t like straight women/thinks straight dating is “icky” so he identifies as a lesbian so he can date lesbians. how am i supposed to react to a guy saying that with his whole chest. what am i supposed to say to that
man with a transphobic definition of lesbianism is transmisogynistic. more at 11
I'm not mourning my teenage years because i falsely believe all girls have a magical adolescence I'm fucking mourning it because i didn't get to be a real person. I'm really fucking glad you can talk about how being a teenager wasn't perfect, i didn't exist.
some days i feel overwhelming grief for the fact that i never got to be a teenaged girl
i should have been an awkward tomboy slowly figuring out she's a lesbain and crushing on my best friend but instead i was crushed into nothing by feelings i couldn't even point to
really enjoying calling chatgpt a 'magic 8ball' because while far from a perfect analogy i feel like it is a very good deflationary weapon against both hype and antihype that helps bring things into perspective by detaching the actual thign from the cultural object it's attached to. "this magic 8ball is going to become sentient" i dont think thats true. "if you talk to a magic 8ball it will kill your soul" that one doesnt sound true also to be honest
“In the 1970s, scientists realized that humpback whales sing structured songs. Strangely, even if they’re coming from thousands of miles apart, males converging on mating grounds all sing the same song. Humpback song is composed of about ten different consecutive themes, each made of repeated phrases of about ten different notes requiring about fifteen seconds to sing. The song lasts about ten minutes. Then the whale repeats it. For hours in the ocean, in their season of courtship, the whales sing. Each ocean’s song is different, and over months and years it changes in the same way for the thousands of whales in each ocean, the song somehow a continual work in progress, fully shared. Sometimes the change is sudden and radical. In the year 2000, researchers announced that humpbacks’ song off Australia’s east coast was “replaced rapidly and completely” by the song Indian Ocean humpbacks off Australia’s west coast had been singing. It seems that a few “foreigners” made the trek west to east, and their song became such an instant hit with the easterners that everybody had to sing it. The researchers wrote, “Such a revolutionary change is unprecedented in animal cultural vocal traditions.” And once a phrase in the song disappears, it has never again been heard, despite over twenty years of eavesdropping. What do the songs mean? Researcher Peter Tyack says, “We may have to thank the evolving aesthetic sensibilities of generations of female humpbacks for the musical features of the males’ songs.” Songs of humpback whales, by the way, have sold millions of recordings. We share that aesthetic. That might be both the biggest mystery and the best evidence of like-mindedness.”

For those who don't know: Ikumi Nakamura is the woman who was senior artist on Bayonetta, and designed the titular character along with Hideki Kamiya. Their greatest moment of bonding was over their insistence that Bayonetta keep her glasses on at all times. Nakamura cannot go to horny jail. She is the warden.
Happy pride month to her and her exclusively
she made a comic about the experience on twitter

An Update from back in October I'm surprised wasn't added to this post. lol
Think tanks explicitly founded to "abolish transgenderism" will publish a report that's like "there's no evidence that trans healthcare works if you ignore all the evidence" and be taken seriously, meanwhile actual researchers go "there's seriously NO evidence that gatekeeping helps" and get ignored
Like on the one hand there's new papers each year going "So it turns out that there's literally no fucking reason to restrict transition access based on these arbitrary criteria, and in fact, they were explicitly made up by some Danish fuck because he was personally obsessed with the idea that trans people were demons, and as it turns out the only measurable impacts of this policy are to increase risks to the patient" that have no impact on the healthcare systems they're criticizing whatsoever.
And then, on the other hand, you've got "Shockingly, this life-altering treatment that massively impacts how the patient is perceived by others in all facets of life is primarily supported by observational studies, as opposed to the enormous violations of bodily autonomy and human dignity necessary to perform a true randomized control trial. We recommend that treatment ceases immediately because you don't understand how evidence-based medicine works." And that becomes a linchpin of the politics of multiple European countries' trans healthcare politics for the next several years.
It's fucking clown world. Nobody who enabled this should be in a position of any power whatsoever.
just invented something at dinner called soundboard storytime where i explain the plot of hamlet to my younger sister & her friend while our other sister punctuates every sentence with a choice sound bite from her phone
“hamlet STABS the man behind the curtain, thinking it’s claudio—- but it’s POLONIUS. [vine boom] [OOOO MA GAAAWWWD] that’s right, he just killed his girlfriend’s FATHER. [WAT DA HEEEELLLLLL] [BRUH.mp3]”

a common problem when people attempt to argue against transfem readings (beyond the baseline transmisogyny often present) is that their lack of understanding of transfemininity leads to them saying things that dont actually contradict the reading. at a certain point, its really isnt about the character. its not about laharl or ranma or kinosaki or anyone else. people just do not understand the lives and experiences of transfeminine people, and so when they see something in the character that they assume is incompatible with being transfem, they incorrectly assume that we also think that thing is incompatible and have forgotten about or are ignoring it.
semi related, i hate that one post about someone's mom crying after finding out about trans women because it means so much to her that some people like being woman when she saw being a woman as suffering for most of her life, because it carries an implication that trans women dont experience that suffering. the idea that we BOTH like being women and suffer due to being women is incomprehensible. and i dont mean this in a "womanhood in inherently suffering" way but in a "under patriarchy women are going to suffer" kind of way. people just have a lot of at best reductive and at worst incorrect assumptions about trans women. is it any wonder that so many characters unintentionally speak to our experiences? if people arent consciously thinking of us, they are less likely to let those assumptions get in the way.
