i don't understand the people who want to retcon the timeless child. you literally don't need to retcon it, because you can't retcon doctor who. it doesn't have an established canon, so all that retconning achieves is bringing more attention to the thing you hate. doctor who explicitly stated that the doctor is half-human, and everyone just ignores that, because it's stupid. it's still canon. it happened in the show. but no one ever picks up on it. it's the same with the master and the drums. it's canon. the master has heard drums in his head since he was a kid. but also that's monumentally stupid so it's never been mentioned since the doctor falls, and that was only to acknowledge it happened then ignore it forever. because it's so fucking stupid oh my god

one of the reasons i really love the first days of phaidon is because it's not Leela/Narvin* at its core but Leela/Narvin/Romana. It'd be easy for it to be Leela/Narvin since those two are you know, actually there, but it makes it very clear that these two are two parts of a whole. they are closer to whole now that they are together, that they no longer feel all alone in the universe, but between them there is, and will always be, Romana.

*slashes used as shorthand for 'whatever the fuck those idiots have got going on'

I love the canon quantum superposition the doctor exists in at all times. a character that has at least five different origins, is married, is asexual, has children, a planet that exists and doesn’t, has a human mother, came out of a loom, is from another dimension, stories that have happened multiple ways in different mediums. and it’s not “time travel retconned that previous story” or “that happened in a different timeline” all these things happened together overlapping in imperfect and conflicting ways and yet it all works

Romana still thinks she’s better than leela. Doesn’t think she’s capable of deceiving her.

“You are a fool, Romana” and she’s been being polite to the person who holds all power over her. Romana might not think so, but Leela is very aware that Romana and Narvin could send her away at any time

#i mean this is why leelaromana is interesting innit #not just in the shipping sense. but like #it's the way romana thinks she is So Much Better than the time lords bc she adores leela; look i can't be racist my best friend is an alien #like her intentions are so good. but she still uses leela. she still calls her slurs. sees her for what she can do for her president #and that's how romana treats everyone! she thinks she's better bc she does it not from a place of political ambition but one of genuine car #but she still throws her only friend under the bus whenever it suits her!! #how fragile her place on gallifrey is. sometimes you have to wonder if some of the reason she loves romana so dearly #is bc romana represents a security to her that is never guaranteed. bc romana will keep her safe. romana won't allow her to be thrown out #and of course what leela doesn't want to see is that she is starting to think as much like a time lord as any of them #anyway. i love when a character with a severe anxiety disorder fucks up over and over and blows up their whole life about it. we have a fair amount of characters with mild anxiety (not that theres anything wrong with that) we need more characters who just cannot function or stop themselves from ruining everything good in their life out of fear
