i almost never do vent art, much less post it but man, i have been feeling bummed out recently
#literally genuinely truly people need to stop stereotyping 'ugly' nerd guys like this because it's extremely old#I can tell you right now you're more likely to get a rancid opinion out of a rich conventionally attractive dude just statistically#also stop using people's photographs to make mean jokes when you don't even fucking know the person thanks bye

Tumblr Staff, after making a half hearted apology for mass banning trans women, has just today mass banned trans women a second time
I don't have exact numbers yet, but at least twenty users were terminated at the same exact time, recieving an "internally generated report" refusing to declare reason for the ban. I quote, "Upon review of your account we have determined that it does not align with our terms of service". No reason given, this was clearly a deliberate action by staff as they themselves claim
Tumblr staff is currently mass banning trans women again. Make them know this is unnaceptable
Israel passed a death penalty law that will allow them to execute Palestinian detainees many of which have been detained without due process and many of which were kids when they were detained.
This is the equivalent to camp executions the Nazis did. It's exactly the same thing
This death penalty law doesn't apply to Israelis of course because Israel is a violent apartheid
The Bill's Wording Creates a Distinction Designating It Almost Exclusively for Palestinian Terror, While the Ideological Burden of Proof It
Israel's Knesset passed a bill on Monday mandating the death penalty for Palestinians convicted of deadly acts of terrorism. The bill stipulates that the death penalty will be imposed on a terrorist who killed a person "with the intent to deny the existence of the State of Israel."
In doing so, the bill's wording creates a distinction designating it almost exclusively for Palestinian terror, while the ideological burden of proof it sets is expected to make its application to Jewish nationalist terror nearly impossible.
Sixty-two lawmakers voted in favor of the contentious bill, including several opposition members; 48 voted against it, and one abstained. The law is now applicable in any territory that Israel functionally controls, including the West Bank and 53 percent of the Gaza Strip.
They literally started popping bottles and drinking champagne immediately after voting on this btw. And they were all wearing little golden pins on their lapels shaped like nooses.
Even just saying that sounds like ham-fisted antisemitic propaganda, but it's genuinely just stating facts.
You can't see it clearly in the above picture where this modern day Nazi is celebrating the new law allowing him to murder more Palestinians but he's wearing a golden noose pin. Along with the other Zionazis in attendance
Charles “Sonny” Burton is facing execution for a shooting he did not commit. Learn the facts, understand the injustice, and take action to c
Signing the petition is really easy, and there are options for being outside of the U.S. We didn't manage to save Marcellus Williams, another Black Muslim man wrongfully on death row. And Alabama loves state funded murder of Black bodies in particular. Let's do what we can, please 🙏🏾 if nothing else, let it be known that we didn't speak up at all.

Do not quit alcohol cold turkey
Do not suddenly stop drinking alcohol as a new years resolution if you have been consistently using alcohol most days
Your body gets used to the presence of the alcohol as a sedative in your system
Suddenly removing the sedative you are chemically accustomed to is like suddenly removing the wall you are leaning on - you will topple over
You brain electricity gets overexcited
This causes seizures
This causes sudden onset dementia (Wernicke's encephalopathy)
This causes brain damage
If you use alcohol often (even in moderate amounts)
Or in large amounts
Or you have ever noticed you get shakey tremors and anxious when you stop drinking
Then your body is chemically dependant and you need to be very careful coming off alcohol otherwise you will cause brain damage
Slowly wean down the amount you drink over days or weeks
Talk to a doctor about your goals to quit and ask about support options
Medically supported withdrawal is a lot safer
If alcohol withdrawal goes badly there is a 15% chance it will kill you.
Do not go this alone
You deserve to be safe
Please reblog this or other similar posts and talk about it with people around you
Support your friends to be safe
Remember the Cold Turkey Rule:
Quitting drugs can make you feel like you're dying
Quitting alcohol can make you actually die
Do No Do This Alone
You Are Worth Helping
Trigger warnings for conversion therapy, rape, and acephobia in general.
Recently, a woman published this article about her experience in couples' therapy. Her experience matches with what most asexual people say is normal for therapists and doctors to put them through: conversion therapy and repeated rape to try to make them stop being asexual (needless to say, it did not work, because conversion therapy is pseudoscience and does not work).
All the therapists responsible for this, in this woman's case, self-described as liberal and LGBT+ friendly. This is why asexual people say that the current LGBT framework and LGBT-inclusive education for healthcare providers is not enough to stop conversion therapy, and demand that asexuality be included in these programmes.
[...] I figured out I was asexual. My husband, at first, was fine with this, though he insisted that we continue to have penetrative intercourse, as he considered such sex to be the ultimate connection and a necessary form of love. But penetrative intercourse made me want to vomit. I never wanted to have it again and, instead, I needed us to find new ways of connecting. On our own we couldn’t figure out where our two realities might intersect so we decided to try couples counseling. I had done individual therapy on and off for decades and found it immensely helpful. I assumed couples counseling would be helpful as well. And so, between December 2014 and October 2017, my husband and I took part in a cumulative 26 months of therapy across three therapists (one LMFT and two psychologists who specialized in family and relationship issues). This, looking back, was one of the worst decisions of my life.
I do not use the word trauma lightly when I say that my time in couples counseling was traumatic. Here is what I heard in those spaces over and over again from people that my husband and I had approached as experts: I was not okay as I am. My husband’s wants were normal while my wants were unimportant. It didn’t matter that intercourse made me feel like I was being raped. It didn’t matter that, to me, having sex with my husband was the same as having sex with a stranger or a relative or a child—that it felt just as wrong, just as nauseating. It didn’t matter that the only way I could get through sex was by imagining I was repeatedly cutting my throat or hacking at my wrists (I found those visualizations more comforting than inhabiting my body during sex). Sex between spouses was essential to any healthy and committed relationship, said our therapists, and we needed to fix what was wrong with me. The only alternative offered was divorce which was, for me, out of the question due to economic, family, and mental health reasons. Many of us in the ace community have been told by family members, significant others, and popular culture that we’re broken, that something is wrong with us, that we’ll be fixed or cured if we just have sex with the right person (or, maybe we need our hormones adjusted, or maybe we need sex therapy and sensate focus exercises). But I had not imagined hearing this from therapists my husband and I had turned to for help, just as I did not expect the focus of couples therapy to become the erasure of my sexual orientation. I’m guessing my husband’s needs were prioritized over mine because his were familiar to the therapists. They understood my lack of sexual desire as something that needed adjustment (to be fair, the DSM had medicalized asexuality via “hypoactive sexual desire disorder“ up until the DSM-5 in 2013). One therapist told me I was making my asexuality up as a way to control my relationship. She said she was knowledgeable about LGBT issues and she had never heard of asexuality. How did I know it existed? She told me that in New York, intercourse is an expectation of marriage by law. It wasn’t just her: none of the therapists were familiar with asexuality as an orientation. [...]
Part of surviving that time of marriage counseling—and I use the term surviving literally, as with each therapy session I slid further down the steep slope of depression and suicidality—was writing in my journal after those sessions. Some entries drift into notes about ways to kill myself [...] Eventually I knew I wouldn’t be okay—I would probably in fact be dead—if I continued these sessions.
[...] The number of young people who are identifying as asexual is striking and worth noting. Ten percent of LGBTQIA+ youth identified as asexual or ace spectrum in a 2020 Trevor Project survey. What this means, in my mind, is that therapists will soon be encountering asexuals in greater numbers—and this concerns me. Are marriage and family therapists ready to help asexual clients, particularly those who may be in mixed-orientation relationships? [...]
The therapists my husband and I met with presented themselves as liberal and progressive. They positioned themselves as LGBT supportive, a safe space, because they allowed that men can want to have sex with men, and women can want to have sex with women—but they could not imagine other queer possibilities, such as a committed and deep love without intercourse. [...]
When people ridicule raising awareness about asexuality's existence (and it's not only JK Rowling), when they claim asexuality shouldn't be included in the queer community, these are the results it leads to.
boo hoo the white house is so historic!
the united states paved over babylon to build a military base in iraq. like the actual ancient city of babylon
In the spring of 2003, US troops invaded Iraq and began an 8-year military occupation, resulting in extensive and long-term damage to tangib
A senior U.S. military officer said Friday he is willing to apologize for damage troops in Iraq caused to the ancient ruins of Babylon.
You would think "the United States occupies the actual ancient city of Babylon" would be some kind of exaggeration but it's not.
hey peeps, i would be calling your doctors STAT to see if you're in the clear about where your drugs are manufactured
then i would definitely be call your representatives and bitch them a new asshole
people are legit going to die because of this
also surgeries??? anesthesia? where is that medicine from? like this is so fucked up
The US largely imports pharmaceutical products from India and Europe.
Now, today is September 26th, and this is supposed to go into effect on October 1st, which is like nine months in the warped dog-years time of the Trump administration. And it's very possible he'll walk it back or conveniently forget about it, which happens pretty frequently.
Which means that calling your reps now may actually make a difference in whether this kills people.
Step 1: Search up the generic name for whatever meds you take, then call your pharmacist - not your primary - and ask where it comes from and whether any part of it is manufactured in the US. THEN call your primary and tell them to pre-order your next round, even if you're not due yet. (They might try to tell you they can't do that. They can.)
Step 2: Call your reps - by now you should be calling them so often they're one of the top numbers saved in your phone, but you can also find them very easily here - and tell them specifically that you are worried about the financial impact on American business this will have and ask them what they plan to do about it. Because sadly, concerns about money and saving their own skin will probably get their attention faster than any concerns about the harm it will do to vulnerable individuals.
NONE OF THIS IS INEVITABLE. I'm serious, call your reps. We've gotten other Orwellian nightmare shit walked back or shot down - because remember that we're not dealing with actual politics anymore, we're dealing with a spineless madman with late stage dementia who's favorite pastime is Just Saying Things To Say Things - and we can get this shot down too.
CALL YOUR REPS!!!
A Black trans woman has lost both legs after allegedly being 'thrown' onto subway tracks in NYC: a GoFundMe has been launched to help her.
A crowdfunding appeal has been launched to help a 29-year-old Black trans woman who lost both her legs after allegedly being thrown onto NYC subway tracks by her boyfriend. A statement from the New York City District Attorney confirms that the victim and her boyfriend were at the Fulton St. station in Brooklyn when the man is said to have seen the oncoming downtown train coming and “thrown” his girlfriend towards the tracks. “The victim was rushed to the hospital, where both of her legs had to be amputated. She also suffered from fractures to her ribs and a blood clot in her lungs,” the statement continues. When the police arrived, they found the woman under the train, reports Into. The woman has since taken part in an interview with trans activist Hope Giselle, and explains that she was on her way to a gender-affirming appointment when she alleges that she and her boyfriend got into an argument and he “threw” her onto the tracks.

This FB post by Rebecca Solnit is the thing keeping me sane this morning,so I’m sharing it here in case it helps you all, too:
“They want you to feel powerless and to surrender and to let them trample everything and you are not going to let them. You are not giving up, and neither am I. The fact that we cannot save everything does not mean we cannot save anything and everything we can save is worth saving. You may need to grieve or scream or take time off, but you have a role no matter what, and right now good friends and good principles are worth gathering in. Remember what you love. Remember what loves you. Remember in this tide of hate what love is. The pain you feel is because of what you love.
The Wobblies used to say don't mourn, organize, but you can do both at once and you don't have to organize right away in this moment of furious mourning. You can be heartbroken or furious or both at once; you can scream in your car or on a cliff; you can also get up tomorrow and water the flowerpots and call someone who's upset and check your equipment for going onward.
A lot of us are going to come under direct attack, and a lot of us are going to resist by building solidarity and sanctuary. Gather up your resources, the metaphysical ones that are heart and soul and care, as well as the practical ones.
People kept the faith in the dictatorships of South America in the 1970s and 1980s, in the East Bloc countries and the USSR, women are protesting right now in Iran and people there are writing poetry. There is no alternative to persevering, and that does not require you to feel good. You can keep walking whether it's sunny or raining. Take care of yourself and remember that taking care of something else is an important part of taking care of yourself, because you are interwoven with the ten trillion things in this single garment of destiny that has been stained and torn, but is still being woven and mended and washed.”
FUCK PEOPLE WHO VOTED TRUMP. I hate you with all my heart and I hope you burn in hell.
but most importantly, FUCK PEOPLE WHO DIDN’T VOTE KAMALA HARRIS.
You thought you fucking did something by not voting, well guess what, this is partially your fault. You allowed this to happen. By not voting for Trump’s opponent, you let him win. I hope you’re fucking happy with yourself. Good fucking job.
Now everyone will suffer the consequences of your actions. Not only you americans, but people outside of the US as well.
You thought you stopped a genocide supporter, but you allowed another one, who by the way is much much worse, to come into power (AGAIN). You keep talking about how the system needs to be changed or whatever, and you joke about overthrowing the government, and that votes change nothing. Yet you don’t do anything. You want a revolution? Then fucking start one. Come on, change the system. Overthrow the government, go ahead. “Both candidates are evil and I don’t want either to be president!” THEN DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.
Oh, you don’t actually want to do that? It sounds scary and impossible to achieve? Then you better at least fucking vote next time. Make a difference.
You achieved nothing, and only made things worse.
If by some miracle sweet potato Hitler doesn't win come the end of the week, this won't be necessary, but should he win here are some of the first things to be aware of or do.
If you know a trans person, no you don't. Respect them as best you can in private but you know nothing in public.
Be aware that TikTok will likely be banned, find new platforms to spread information. Fuck Twitter and what ever tiktok replacement he's working on.
Learn to Garden, even in winter so you can feed yourself should prices skyrocket
Get an air purifier. The Clean Air Act is likely to be stripped of its power with the EPA deregulated, air quality is going to suffer
Should you have kids, try to supplement history/social studies education. That's the first place they will attack, if you need help ask, history teacher will help
Try and do what you can to be aware of your health before January.
Help one another. That's the best way we can move forward and make change in the future.
❗️Nevada voters - this is going to sound weird, but PICK UP YOUR PHONE if an unknown number calls.
**Lots of signatures on ballots are not matching and your ballot may need to be fixed.
TLDR; yes, signature matching is an antiquated way to verify ballots but it is still being used. Reportedly thousands of ballots here need to be cured. Answer the phone!
Homes are expensive because of landlords hoarding them for profit, not because of regulations.
Time to bring back my favorite picture: The reason there have been so many food and consumer good recalls in the past few years. (If you got listeria from cold cuts? Direct result of Trump's actions!) Regulations exist to protect consumers from profit-hungry corporations.
Remember, there is no "lesson learned" from those regulations. They aren't safety procedures where now that people know putting lead in cinnamon is a bad thing that they won't do it even if you take the regulation away. The regulations were created because, when given a chance, these people leapt at the chance to destroy housing, poison food, and blight the planet.
Everytime a regulation like that is removed you should be concerned about who was being "held back" by a law preventing them from selling disease riddled meat.
A salient example, since lead got brought up specifically—
A while ago it occurred to me to wonder how long we’ve known lead is poisonous, since it was so ubiquitous in paint and construction and so many other places until just a few decades ago, so I went on a wiki dive to see when the first alarm bells were sounded about the health hazards of lead.
Want to guess?
Ancient Rome.
People have known lead is poisonous since at least Ancient Rome.
It didn’t stop people using it.
Your safety regulations are written in blood, not by accident, not because people didn’t know there were dangers, but because without them, blood is cheap.
Lead was used as a pesticide in the early 20th century, so I reckon we knew it was poison
Let's not forget that a chunk of workplace safety regulations are owed to the coal wars, when Appalachian miners had to wage an actual civil war against their bosses, police, military and hired goons just to get any rights at all on the job; their employers preferred to hire militias and kill people rather than agree to pay for better safety equipment and give people breaks.
Then there were the "radium girls" in the 1920s who worked at factories assembling products that used radium in order to glow in the dark. They were told to use their mouths to wet their brushes so the company could save more time and material. Their bodies began falling apart, literally, their tissues were dying and breaking off, and the retaliation they led - while any of them were still alive - resulted in a set of laws addressing workplace related illness, setting in motion waves of additional regulation and scrutiny we all still benefit from.
There's more events like these all through history, industries willing to kill people to save money, and all that ever ended any of it was the "government interference" hated so much by conservatives. Almost every single regulation they fight against or already destroyed was a response to a big business damaging human beings over as little as a few cents at a time.
Meanwhile, the rules and red tape conservatives enjoy and enforce are the kind that limit where homeless people can sleep or what food stamps can buy.
The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City, on Saturday, March 25, 1911, was the deadliest industrial disaster in the history of the city, and one of the deadliest in U.S. history.[1] The fire caused the deaths of 146 garment workers – 123 women and girls and 23 men[2] – who died from the fire, smoke inhalation, falling, or jumping to their deaths. Most of the victims were recent Italian or Jewish immigrant women and girls aged 14 to 23;[3][4] of the victims whose ages are known, the oldest victim was 43-year-old Providenza Panno and the youngest were 14-year-olds Kate Leone and Rosaria "Sara" Maltese.[5]
...
Because the doors to the stairwells and exits were locked[1][8] – a common practice at the time to prevent workers from taking unauthorized breaks and to reduce theft[9] – many of the workers could not escape from the burning building and jumped from the high windows. There were no sprinklers in the building.[10] The fire led to legislation requiring improved factory safety standards and helped spur the growth of the International Ladies' Garment Workers' Union (ILGWU), which fought for better working conditions for sweatshop workers.
THEY WERE LOCKED IN, UNABLE TO ESCAPE THE FIRE, IN ORDER TO "DISCOURAGE UNAUTHORIZED BREAKS AND REDUCE THEFTS."
Businesses like Amazon are doing absolutely everything they can within the law to "discourage" breaks and thefts, but the law says you can't fucking lock your workers in like prisoners. They currently would if they could, and they'd love those rules to disappear.
