my life isnt going according to keikaku
i have no keikaku
i'm the guy who writes the books that the protagonist in supernatural horror movies frantically reads somewhere in act ii. job's pretty easy. lot of "legends of vampires have recurred all throughout human history" and "demonologists agree that the quickest way to un-summon a demon is to trap it in a cursed object". no citations of course; they don't pay me citation money. i had to learn html back in the early aughts when everyone started seeking their supernatural info on websites they found via top search engines like FINDLER and WEBSIGHT but that's died down now which is great because i didn't have it in me to pick up css. currently working on a new book about horses that are evil. it's called HORSES THAT ARE EVIL in all caps so the protagonist can find it quickly to yank off the library shelf. it will be published 35 years ago.

the thing about being alone is that it’s so peaceful and freeing and cool apart from the evenings you descend into literal hell
people moving to tumblr from twitter please fucking reblog art likes literally dont do anything except make the artist upset bc they have 2 reblogs and 55 likes
yes this includes fanfiction, gif sets, edits, etc.
theres this one person who reblogs this post like 20 times a day and then sometimes will also reblog it like 200 times at once and also anytime it appears on their dash they apparently will queue it again too and i just want you all to know that you pissed them off real bad and that should be your sign to reblog art actually. for them
heyyyyy followers and mutuals who think this only applies to people from twitter:
it doesn’t.
babygirl you would not believe the superiority complex me and the other never left tumblr homies have right now
HEY!
AO3 is in danger of becoming CENSORED. if you have donated $10 or more BEFORE june 30th, PLEASE exercise your right to vote (as you should have received an email to) and VOTE AGAINST TIFFANY GU, who is PRO-CENSORSHIP and PRO making AO3 “palatable” for outsiders and antis.
this is one of the few places dead dove writers/illustrators have to post our content, which is NOT illegal, immoral, or a threat to society. however, CENSORSHIP IS.
if you have the opportunity to vote, PLEASE TAKE IT.
KEEP AO3 WONDERFUL! THANKS!
i am begging you all to stop treating this site like instagram if you dont want it to be content free by next year
It's easy pals. Hit the reblog/double arrows button and let your fav posts spread. It's not stealing, it's not reposting, everything is still linked to the OP. You can even make a side blog for all the reblogs if you want to keep your main one clean or sth.
people have been talking a lot about how tumblr altering from .gif to .mp4 will severely effect quality of a gifset - and they’re right! it really does impact quality (and the more complex the gifset, the more impacted the quality is, which is also horrible for gifmakers). but i also feel like it’s worth mentioning that this goes beyond quality. converting to .gif takes away key components in gif making, including transparency.
now having transparency within a gifset is important because it allows gifmakers to get around the ‘you can only upload 10 gifs’ rule, while still preserving your tumblr experience, whatever layout your in whether it’s light mode or dark mode or anything in between. but converting to .mp4 completely changes this. you cannot preserve transparency with .mp4. this means any gif that includes multiple gifs within one canvas? it’s going to have white lines inbetween.
here is an example of a multiple-gifs-in-one saved as .gif:
and this is it now in .mp4 format:
not only is the quality severely impacted (ew), but also it has these white bars which are at complete contrast with how the rest of the set looks in dark mode.
i know to non-gifmakers it may seem overdramatic for us to complain about this change, but it really does entirely alter the giffing techniques we as gifmakers employ to make our gifs look smooth for your consumption.
so please, make noise about this. if not for yourself but for the gifmakers you enjoy if you want to continue seeing them make content.
So, I’ve stayed out of this discussion for a bit and I have to mention why they are considering this.
It’s because the MP4 files are smaller. Yes, they don’t look as good, yes they’re not perfect, but they’re smaller and able to be loaded by less powerful devices.
The gif sets you all make are astoundingly beautiful, amazing even. A single gifset can crash my $300 phone. I have to keep them in the mobile data mode always or my dashboard is unusable.
It will make the art worse, but it will mean more people can see it.
My dashboard looks like this because your gifs are huge:
And the options are compressing the gifs or using MP4 files.
Because GIF does per frame compression and MP4 does temporal compression (if a pixel stays a color for several frames that pixel only has to be in a single frame), there will be far more banding and color crushing in compressed GIFs versus the MP4 option.
Keep your gifs, they are beautiful works of art, but a social media that sees must of is user base on mobile is not the ideal place to share them in high quality.
we know why tumblr is doing this. the issue here is not understanding, it’s that as a gifmaker, we are aiming to create hq pieces of work and butchering the quality to make it ‘easier for someone to scroll by and like it just like instagram or twitter’ misses the entire point of why we create gifs. a lot of gifmakers (myself included) have said that if this change goes ahead without a chance to opt out, they will stop making gifs. so there you go - it will make your dash load faster! because there won’t be nearly as many gifsets out there for you to look at!
what is wrong with mobile data mode? with that mode, you can pick and choose what you want to play. you know what will crash your phone and what won’t. isn’t that a happy compromise between more complex gifsets existing that may crash the app and also getting enjoyment out of the site and people’s creations? i don’t know if you’ve actually bothered to look up any .mp4 changes, but the more intricate the gifset, the worse it ends up looking under conversion. so i can tell you now, people won’t bother. there is no point spending hours working on something only for it to look awful on upload.
maybe you don’t care. maybe you don’t like gifsets or reblog them and that is why you think ‘this change is great!’ but i hate to break it to you, these beautiful works of art are what make tumblr unique. saying this is ‘not the ideal place to share them in high quality’ completely ignores what we as users have created tumblr to be, as a space, for 10+ years. prioritising mobile users is completely ignoring the very people who are creating content for you mobile users. if you want tumblr to end up as another version of twitter or instagram then you can keep saying ‘this is fine because it’s fine for me!’ but if you actually want tumblr to remain as tumblr, maybe you should actually try and listen to what the gifmakers on this site are trying to tell you.
The original post of this design was March 30th. I'm going to effing scream this is so romantic??? Goodbye ☠️☠️☠️☠️

Your comments on AO3 are more powerful than you know.
A comment on a fic more than once gave me the idea or inspiration I needed to add another part to that fic. It helped me to produce even more of the content that the reader who left it enjoyed so much.
A comment on an older fic reminded me that my fics don’t get lost 24 or 48 hours after posting. True, that’s when most fics get the majority of their hits, kudos and comments, so a writer sometimes feels like if a fic hasn’t done well in that time frame, it’s as good as gone. But some people discover and love such fics later on and that’s incredible.
A comment once stopped me from deleting my AO3 account. For reasons, I was feeling really low, like I had no talent and nothing to offer. Like everything I was posting was banal and worthless. And as my finger was hovering over the ‘delete account’ button, a mail notification let me know that someone left a comment on one of my fics. I went to read it and it was absolutely lovely. And it complimented not just that fic, but my writing overall. It helped me get through a rough moment.
Your comments can mean so much more than you know. You have more capacity to do good and help content creation in the fandom, that you and others enjoy, than you realize.
So this is my little note, as an author, to say THANK YOU to all the people who take the time to leave a comment on AO3 or send an ask on Tumblr or write kind words in the tags of a reblog. It all means so very much! <33333
She's coming for you!
