Putting cut cause this turned out longer than I thought
The thing is, this guy came in a couple months ago and bee lined it to me. "I have to tell you that you are the most striking and beautiful woman i have ever seen!"
"Thank you, tell me that everyday if you like" I laughed it off.
Since then, he has given me his business card. Insisted I call him, I haven't, I lost his card actually. Asked me if I was married, I told him I wasn't and that i didn't date. In the last month he had waited till I was alone behind the register with no one in the shop to insist that I give him my phone number.
Continues to ask me what i do for fun, where i hang out, who does my nails.
I shoot him down everytime.
I don't give out my number. I don't hang out. I don't have friends. I go home to my puppies and brother. I don't date. I don't date. I DON'T DATE.
I DON'T DATE.
Finally my team lead walked by one day and the guy switched up so quick, started asking about tires and had a convo with my boss. Once the guy left I had a chat with my boss.
Guess who came in today?
Nearly ran my boss over trying to get him. He was already assisting me with s customer. 🤦♀️ STAYS PUT for once, I turn and spot the brother out in the shop. SLAM MY HANDS AGAINST THE GLASS AND YELL OUT THE LITTLE WINDOW
"CAWCAW-CAWCAAAAWWWWWW!!!"
He immediately stops and looks over as I go back to what our team lead and I are doing. "Sorry" I apologize to the customer we are currently helping, "those guys don't listen!"
He laughs and so does my team lead, "yeah I told you to get their attention already, sheesh!" He's on board, he knows what I'm doing.
And the guy comes back in. Stands in line for my register, even with Guy at the other one waving him over, at this point I haven't acknowledged him or his presence. But I turn from my boss and spot the brother who is now making his way over, boss starts assisting the guy. Brother looks at me.
"Poughkeepsie"
Brother doesn't look away. But i have my back to the weird guy, so he had a clear view. "Pink flamingo?" He asks
I laughed "that's what I was talking about! Tell Stan!"
Behind me i can hear my team lead, "alright thank you for shopping with us, have a good day, my man." Polite, but dismissive, which always surprises me when he gets serious. He doesn't let me move and pulls me away when the customer steps out the door to walk out past the brother. Who had already shouted at the guys out in the shop. "Need you guys to listen up!"
Everyone stops and stares.
"Now we know what he looks like." Brother tells me once the guy is gone.
He and team lead disappear. It isn't so busy and I don't mind since there's one of our Guy in the shop (we legit call him Guy) but brother comes back "we talked to the coach from up front, said to start recording next time"
"He acts different when it's just me"
"Start recording and throw something into the shop if need be, but that was perfect"
This is why I chose to work there. I know I'm safe. Even if I have to shout.
The guys made me feel better after. I think I was a little more shaken than I thought. They cracked jokes. Made nasty comments. I almost forgot til I had to go out to my car. I kicked around the exit door and asked whose truck was outside? It did belong to Stan. Then brother walked me out while they stood outside to smoke. (They all vape).
I am home now. Super tired. Why the fuck does this shit have to happen to me? I have had guys flirt, but he's the one that makes me worry. I can't stop shaking, I thought i was just tired. I thought I was hungry but I ate, still shaking. I fucking hate being alive.
I really do adore the brother. If he ever wants a partner in crime about the dude, you can always borrow my oldest brother. He'll happily shenan again.
Genuinely, don't trust any videos you see now from ringcameras, surveillance cameras, or any other times where you expect the footage to be grainy and distorted due to the 'source'.
That's where they now can most easily get away with these now.
And yes, that means things are about the get really fucking scary, and not in a fun Halloween way.
Edit to add: Now more than ever it's really fucking important that you start to get in the habit of verifying the source of what you share.
Yeah, it's the naturally grainy shit that you'll need to be really supporting about, because that is going to hide a lot of errors in more polished AI. If you want better practice at spotting these yourself, the Reddit communit RealOrAI has a lot of tips on what to look out for.
For anyone who doesn’t know already, a Fannish Next of Kin (FNoK) is the person you decide you want to give control of your AO3 account to if you should die or become incapacitated. That person will be able to make decisions about your fic, based on what you want to happen with it. This could mean orphaning everything, deleting everything, adding a note to your profile or fics to tell people what happened to you. It could also include things like giving permission for your work to be translated, podficced, added to fic anthologies... the list goes on.
To set your FNoK, first choose that person. They can be someone you know IRL or they can be a fellow fan you just know online. Whoever you choose, have a conversation with that person about what you want and whether they’re comfortable with it.
Once you both agree that this person will be your FNoK, you should both send a request to the Policy & Abuse team. This is the team that manages FNoK. You can send a message by submitting an abuse report and putting Fannish Next of Kin request in the subject line. Once they receive requests from both of you, they’ll process the request.
One thing you should know, whoever you decide to make your FNoK should have an AO3 account. That’s how they’ll receive control of yours if you should die or be incapacitated. They don’t need to be a fannish person themselves, but they should set up an account and use an email address they check (and keep updated)

FNOK requests now go through the Support committee instead of through Policy & Abuse. You can contact Support using their email form linked at the bottom of every page of AO3: Technical Support & Feedback.
