I never shut up about Malevolent. Do not get me started talking about The Butcher- he's been my hyper fixation for months. I love Collins' character he will always be my absolute favorite I've written entire essays about this madman. I have so many headcanons and constantly check the tags for him like an insane person. He's closely followed in very close second by Noel, who I absolutely adore as well as Parker who became a surprise favorite right next to my love for John and Arthur! Yeah no- don't get me started on this podcast I will nooooot shut up. Also I ship the hell out of Dollins and Parkthur- DEFINITELY DO NOT GET ME STARTED ON THAT ESPECIALLY NOT DOLLINS I WILL NEVER SHUT UP ABOUT THE FREAK POSSIBILITIES FOR THAT SHIP.
I'm currently revisiting my obsession with Peaky Blinders and 1900-1950s in general. I think about it a lot specifically on Tommy Shelby's character and how he's shaped by trauma. Tommy, Alfie, and Polly are my favorites of the core recurring cast, and Luca Changretta is easily my favorite antagonist in the show. Do not let me ramble about this show. I will not shut up. Sorry gang I really don't like Grace as a character. Also I liked the Immortal Man movie and stand by it being good- fight me.

My Malevolent Threshold Predictions so Far- and random thoughts
I'm a Patreon member, but I waited until part 5 was publicly released before listening to it because I was too tired and busy this month to get ahead, but ANYWAYS here we are!
Threshold discussion spoilers for episodes 1-5
SOLET'STALKABOUTPARKER-
My jaw hit the floor when it was revealed that Parker was the source of the lighter sound and why Arthur had been acting so funny. PARKER IS BACK HOLY FUCK YAY!!!! Guys- I love Parker- I got attached to him from what little we knew about him from Blackstone and now we are getting so much more and it's soooo good.
However needless to say I am worried about Parker.
Something isn't sitting right with me about Parker.
It's led me to a theory that I hope I am wrong about because I genuinely want this to be just Parker.
Parker is actually an entity preying on Arthur's guilt in order to gain something from him and is purposefully sowing the seeds of mistrust between him and John.
We know that in Malevolent canon these outer gods have the ability to mimic voices. Early on in Season 1 of Malevolent, Adam Fry's voice was used to lure Arthur into getting information from him about where he was heading to look for Amanda Cummings and later on we learn from Noel in season 4 that this is a tactic used by the King in Yellow to get what he wants from victims and that Adam's voice actually belongs to Noel. Lillith is also able to change voices within season 6 when she uses it to try and get under Arthur's skin about not being John. So we know that these entities at least some of them, have the ability to mimic other's voices.
An we have just been introduced to a new horrifying god that scares even JOHN which I will get into soon as to what I think that thing is-
So if this isn't Parker- I believe this might be an entity trying to lure Arthur into getting what it wants. What that is yet I don't know. However, Parker brings up a few times that Arthur killed him mostly in anger but one time in spite and it was an interesting line,
"You're my brother, Artie. I'll always love you. Even if you did kill me."
The line delivery was really spooky to me. Like Parker is trying to manipulate Arthur's guilt banking on the closeness of their former relationship in life. When Arthur asked Parker to prove it was him and not something else Parker gives him all the right answers but this could be an effort by Harlan to lure us into thinking that this IS genuinely Parker. Keep this in mind. I'll circle back to this.
It is also odd that Parker can hear John yet John cannot hear Parker and John has been able to hear most entities Arthur has encountered so far within the show. All except one.
The voice that claimed to be Frank Underhill in the Dreamlands that drove a rift between John and Arthur.
This was the only voice John could not hear and it was the voice of an entity purposely trying to drive him and Arthur apart in order to take control of Arthur's body.
Seems like a similar set up doesn't it?
At least that's what I am thinking is a possibility. If this is some entity that has chosen to appear as Parker and use Arthur's guilt over the death of his friend to it's advantage then John not being able to hear it is important, and we know John cannot hear Parker even before Parker says so because Arthur ha told John he heard something that sounded like a lighter being flicked open and John did not hear it at all and asked if he was okay. An if Arthur is the thing that this entity is after then driving John away is going to be essential to getting what it's after because especially if this entity has bad intentions, John would be able to sort it out rather quickly and attempt to talk sense into Arthur.
So, if this is an entity and NOT Parker- who could it be?
There is two possibilities in the back of my mind. One is Kayne. The other is Yog-Sothoth, an entity we have not seen before in Malevolent whom I think might be the main antagonistic force driving Threshold.
-Kayne-
Do I really think this is Kayne trying to manipulate Arthur? No. However a strong case can be made for it. Nyarlathotep is an entity in the lovecraftian horror mythos that appears in the Call of Cuthulu game campaigns like the ones Harlan plays with his friends that inspired Malevolent. Beyond that, Kayne is an established antagonist and the entity Nyarlathotep is KNOWN for being an entity that can assume thousands of different disguises. Kayne also has strong motivations for wanting out of whatever world he has been trapped in by the actions of Arthur, John, The Manager, and Lillith. Who better to try and assume a guise of than Parker to try and manipulate Arthur's guilt into helping him. Parker "rotting from the inside out" could also be explained by Kayne's injuries and his abilities being affected by whatever different plane of existence he is trapped in.
So this is a possibility but I think it's not as strong of a case as the one I am about to jump into.
Let's talk about Yog-Sothoth.
Yog-Sothoth has never been mentioned in Malevolent before but is another entity that appears in some of the Call of Cuthulu games that I think will become the main antagonistic force of this season. If you wanna read from the fandom wiki here it is but in summary-
Yog-Sothoth is an outer god similar to Azathoth in that it controls space time. Yog-Sothoth is all-knowing of the past, present, and future, is omniscient and omnipresent yet is locked out of our world, is the progenitor of HASTUR, yes- our Hastur- King in Yellow Hastur-
and literally one of the entity's names is "The Lurker at the Threshold"
It's in the name! There's no way in my mind that Threshold is not going to involve Yog-Sothoth in some capacity.
In Episode 3 of Threshold, John describes the entity that killed Puckett as:
"The only part of its true form revealed are its hands, which peek at the bottom of the off-white vestments. Its hands are covered in yellowing blood-soaked polyps. Small undulating pustules of various sizes that cover every inch of its exposed flesh. Many sport large red lesions, giving them an almost eye-like appearance."
This could tie in with Yog-Sothoth who is describes as being a conglomerate of "iridescent globes" that are constantly morphing. This could be Harlan's interpretation of a Yog-sothoth design.
Even the Key that Arthur and John stole from their assailant in Puckett's green house that was taken off his corpse has significant ties to the Yog-Sothoth theory because Yog-Sothoth is described as "the key and guardian of the gate." because the entity is literally the path to an alternative reality perhaps even one like where Noel is trapped. Perhaps Threshold where Noel is being held is only accessible through Yog-Sothoth or finding Yog-Sothoth.
The key in the original lore surrounding Yog-Sothoth to my understanding was a family heirloom passed down that unlocks a way to manifest one's consciousness to face Yog-Sothoth directly, past all physical barriers.
It would make a lot of sense that if Noel isn't physically present in Arthur's reality anymore, Arthur would need to reach this other reality somehow in order to reach Noel and ultimately Yog-Sothoth.
A lot of things are already adding up early. on into Threshold where I think this might be where our boys are heading next and I am SUPER excited about it.
ALSO- circling back to Parker for a moment because no I have not forgotten- if Yog-Sothoth is involved in the plot and wants something to do with Arthur's reality, this would be the absolute best entity for the task of mimicking Parker. To what end? I am not sure yet. However, Yog-Sothoth being "all knowing" is the perfect set up for the entity to know all about Parker and Arthur's former friendship.
This still might just be Parker, and not some sort of malicious entity however even if it's not I still say Yog-Sothoth is our primary antagonistic force for Threshold. The fact that Parker claims to have not known about why in fact Arthur was so sad when they first met and did not know that Faroe had drowned in a bath tub and this Faroe is not Arthur's true Faroe casts doubt on this being Yog-Sothoth's doing otherwise the entity would know this.
Unless something that happened in order for Arthur to get back the Faroe he has now has either gone unnoticed by Yog-Sothoth, or was something that this entity was incapable of perceiving somehow, I'm still not set on Parker being a lure from Yog-Sothoth.
I think we have not seen the last of Kayne yet either, because the entity Nyarlathotep has ties to Yog-Sothoth too that I don't have time to get into here but is worth a read if you are curious or bored and wanna go down a rabbit hole.
There is also the loose thread now with D.B Imports popping up again at the Taxidermist, the same shipping company being used by Charon for illegal shipping that Noel uncovered in New York and told Arthur about that was affiliated with The order of the Fallen Star.
For now though this has been some of my working thoughts and theories about Threshold so lemme know what you think!
If you are of legal drinking age where you live, I found a recipe for a Blood and Sand! I added a couple things to mine. I substituted cherry liqueur for whisky cherry juice, and threw in a black cherry because I just love them.
WHAT DO YOU MEAN THE PEAKY BLINDERS IMMORTAL MAN MOVIE IS OUT RIGHT FUCKING NOW!? Oh my god I’m fucking screaming- ok- I’m going to go watch it IMMEDIATELY
So um update- yeah it’s almost 3am cause I had to pause a few times and I’m emotionally fucking devastated forever now. This was such a good movie.
I’m still on my bullshit thinking about The Butcher and it still haunts me that the two good decisions Collins tried to make end up in him dying.
During the finale of season 4 when Collins chose to help Noel instead of leaving him to die (saving a life instead of taking one) Kayne ends up killing him. The alternate version of Collins too in the Dark World once Arthur used the lighter helped patch Arthur up and offered to show him back to where he was camping only to end up being killed by Arthur because of his deal with the Dollmaker.
I’ve talked at length about The Butcher’s ties to unprocessed trauma and cycles of trauma, recurring trauma, and violence but it’s still so heartbreaking to me that the couple times his character does break these cycles it ends in death. These are just my own observations not a canon analysis it’s closer to a headcanon/personal speculation but still the thought just haunts me.
arthur lesters main problem is that he has the perfect combination of vulnerable body and indomitable spirit that make him basically irresistible to anyone and anything with a functioning prey drive. if he whimpered a little less prettily or mouthed off a little less competently i think maybe 80% of the plot of malevolent would not have happened this way.
Nothing interesting to share just a PSA for my moots-
I created an account on Stoat (formerly Revolt), a discord alternative, due to concerns over the disgustingly invasive and insecure nature of the age verification system that discord is continuing to shove down everyone's throats.
SO! If you wanna keep in contact on a platform that is no discord, you can add me there as: Umbra_Nocturnes
If you are a discord user like me i'd seriously consider looking at Stoat as an alternative. You don't have to delete discord, but also you don't have to give them your sensitive data either, as they have continually shown lately that they have no interest in protecting their users. So if you get restricted by this new system, it's something to consider! Also Stoat's UI is very similar to discord's so it makes the shift easier.
