Medieval scribes writing things like “fuck the abbot” (their boss) and “I am so hung over I feel dead” and “that goddamn cat got in here and pissed on the manuscript” and drawing penis monsters and purposefully unflattering portraits of public figures and animals in the marginalia is funny, yes. But more than that it is so deeply quintessentially human. It reminds you that they were largely just frustrated young adults who did an extremely repetitive and tedious job 6 days a week during daylight hours in poor conditions and felt the same malaise young adults feel now.

I vividly remember talking to one of my favorite professors about how I’m scared things will fall apart after graduation and how I’m so unused to change and her just going “if things fall apart then they do and u just pick up the pieces and start over again and it’s fine. Things falling apart is not this mammoth fear u should be worried about” and I remember these words every time I want to pursue or seize something bc literally the worst thing that can happen is it doesn’t work out ….. and then I just pick up the pieces and start all over again

seeing a lot of crusty white dog apologism recently which is fine but I need everyone to understand they do not have to be that crusty. they're extremely easy to wash and need to be washed and trimmed regularly, and brushed daily in most cases. it's also necessary to treat the allergies and yeast infections that make the crust so much worse. I've personally only met one that wasn't a nightmare behavior-wise but that's because it was owned by my fifth grade teacher who was also expert at training human children. most of those dogs stink so bad you can smell them across the room. this is not how it has to be. they weigh eight pounds put them in the kitchen sink please. yorkies too
