It seemed fitting that I close up shop, reproductively speaking, in the days before Donald Trump’s inauguration.
Mamalode's Elke Govertsen and Dori Gilels talk about what's happening at Mamalode in March 2017. Updates on the Mamalode Podcast, an on-going column from Galit Breen on families and technology, and Morgan Armstad's Millennial Mom.
Being colorblind is not an effective tool to fight racism because in order to fight racism, you first need to acknowledge that it exists, which means that you have to see how race matters.
Such an important and powerful piece up today:
Mamaloders keep finding ourselves asking the same question, What Now? How do we digest everything that is happening in our world, both inside and outside our homes, and how do we translate it for our children? What do we do now? What can we do now?
Thanks for joining us to celebrate our 25th issue: BEAUTIFUL and our NEW downtown office! We're so lucky to have such a BEAUTIFUL Mamalode community!
Our kids are using technology in very different ways than we did. The first of a 6 week series on raising digital kids.
We could NOT be more excited about Galit Breen's new weekly column about raising digital kids. It's a must-read!
I am proud of you in the way I am proud of my own children. An unrelenting, visceral, fierce pride.

Everyday you as parents change the world. We are raising the future.
Mamalode has always been a place for authentic, first person stories, and we will continue to provide this space, but we want to have first person with context—what is the larger conversation around your experience? Is it part of what is happening in the world? What is the message within your story? What is your point of view?
Dig deep, be brave, share your story and why it is important (on our website, in print, on podcast, video or social media)—because what you do and who you are and what happens to you is IMPORTANT and we together can raise the future we dream of.
Like so many others in America, I was devastated by the shooting at Sandy Hook School that claimed the lives of 20 first graders and six educators, and resolved that day to never again be silent.
We remember. We will never forget. #Newtown #SandyHook
Elke got the chance to chat with the incredible woman who founded Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America in the wake of this tragedy that happened four years ago today.
From Elke, Publisher of Mamalode
Today I woke up and didn't want to work. But then I remembered WHY I started Mamalode. It was so that people wouldn't feel alone. Or divided. Or scared. It was so that different people with different beliefs and lives could tell their stories, and we could find what is universal.
Moms, dads and people raising children have the biggest leadership role of all-- what we teach in our homes and hearts changes the world in an immediate and lasting way that transcends all politics, borders and languages.
Love. Decency. Kindness. Respect. How to handle fear. How to handle sharing. How to handle compromise. Manners. Grace. These skills are taught in tiny ways, to tiny people, and cumulatively are world changing.
We all want our children to be safe-- and beyond that we strive for goodness. We all fear, often the same fears. We all hope, often the same hopes.
My oldest son will vote in the next election. This changes how I parent him, the expectations, the conversations and the weight of my job as a parent.
My expectations, the conversations and weight of my job as a publisher, that is also world changing. So today, I go to work. I collect, shine and share your stories, each and every one of you. You are my WHY.
Our collective voices matter, only because each individual voice matters. Please, vote. #election2016
In Episode 7 of the podcast, Mamalode Digital Director Leland Buck speaks with Mark Fewell, Global CMO at Movember.
Mamalode's Digital Director Leland Buck spent a few minutes talking to Mark Fewell, Global Chief Marketing Officer with the Movember Foundation.
Everyone has a story, everyone has a voice and every voice matters. We at Mamalode have been thinking a lot about the power of voice, especially during this election season. While each of us has opinions about which presidential candidate we think would best serve the greater good, we feel Mamalode as a whole is not a soap box from which political endorsements should be made. We are not about telling our readers who to like, or what to believe. But we remain steadfastly committed to finding ways to elevate your voice.
Whatever issues burn inside you, we hope you will find a way to express your views in a positive, supportive, strong and loving way. That's certainly true when we publish your essays, and it is equally true when we encourage you to vote. Our collective voices matter, only because each individual voice matters.
The worst thing that can happen on an Election Day is that good people will think their voice doesn't matter and they will decide not to vote. The importance of voting is not just to decide who will be the next president. It determines who will serve on school boards, city councils, county commissions, in local and state law enforcement leadership, on judicial benches, in state and federal legislative offices and it directs policy and determines if and how schools and libraries get funded in our communities.
If Mamalode is going to endorse anyone during this election season, we endorse you, because your voice is the one that matters. Please, vote.
As always, we look forward to listening. - Team Mamalode We want to know what you think. Comment, submit your own views, and engage with us on social. Write to us, express yourself, and most importantly, vote.
