Do you think season 5 of Hacks will follow the same formula that the first 4 did? (season starts with them at odds, by episode 4 they are in a much better place, then around episode 6-7 something clicks for them professionally and the season ends with Deborah hurting/ pushing Ava away) Or do you think they'll break that cycle since it's most likely the final season?

I don't have much hope for a happy ending since Hollywood has collectively decided that sitcoms need to end with character deaths, divorce, female characters giving up careers for men they outgrew years ago and dumb twists for shock value, so both of them being alive and in a good place would already exceed my expectations.

hard to say. they're definitely on the same page (in terms of wanting to really put in the effort to ensure deborah has a legacy that isn't just... a failed unaired late night and one that was successful but needed to be sacrificed for the sake of integrity/grit and deb/ava's relationship). but i do think they'll need to address the big question in the room, the elephant:

"what are we?"

i really hope they shake things up in S5 and finally come full circle somehow. ava and deborah are very clearly madly in love, and they deserve to be together together. i hope we see it in S5.

I don’t think season 5 can start with them at odds. This is the first season they’ve ever ended it together. I think Deborah giving up her show for Ava and them ending season 4 together shows theyre mixing it up a bit. I do agree that the big question they need to answer is “What are we? What is our relationship? What do we want from each other?”
