Conservatives will be like āWhy are you holding me accountable for my bigoted beliefs? Whatever happened to tolerance???ā
The response to that is Tolerance Is Not a Moral Precept - it is a peace treaty. It is a contract of cooperation, or at least, of non-interference.
the model of a peace treaty differs from the model of a moral precept in one simple way: the protection of a peace treaty only extends to those willing to abide by its terms. It is an agreement to live in peace, not an agreement to be peaceful no matter the conduct of others. A peace treaty is not a suicide pact.
(Bold added)
Someone whoās actively trying to oppress, belittle, exclude, or harm people based on their identities is not complying with the contract, so thereās no reason to extend its protection to them.
Because treating people fairly often means treating them differently.
This is something that I teach my students during the first week of school and they understand it. Eight year olds can understand this and all it costs is a box of band-aids.
I have each students pretend they got hurt and need a band-aid. Children love band-aids. I ask the first one where they are hurt. If he says his finger, I put the band-aid on his finger. Then I ask the second one where they are hurt. No matter what that child says, I put the band-aid on their finger exactly like the first child. I keep doing that through the whole class. No matter where they say their pretend injury is, I do the same thing I did with the first one.
After they all have band-aids in the same spot, I ask if that actually helped any of them other than the first child. I say,Ā āWell, I helped all of you the same! You all have one band-aid!ā And theyāll try to get me to understand that they were hurt somewhere else. I act like Iām just now understanding it. Then I explain,Ā āThere might be moments this year where some of you get different things because you need them differently, just like you needed a band-aid in a different spot.āĀ
If at any time any of my students ask why one student has a different assignment, or gets taken out of the class for a subject, or gets another teacher to come in and help them throughout the year, I remind my students of the band-aids they got at the start of the school year and they stop complaining. Thatās why eight year olds can understand equity.Ā
I remember reading somewhere once āwe should be speaking of equity instead of equalityā and that is a principle that applies here me thinks
I will reblog this every time it shows up on my dash, because, frankly, the world cannot get enough reminders.
Kinda weird how you say youāre against fascism yet you shut down anyone just because they share a different opinion than you. You guys are exactly what you say you hate... FASCIST! How come I have never seen any member of antifa actually sit down with someone and have a civil debate? Iāve only ever seen them yell and throw tantrums. Doesnāt look good for you guys, yikes.
AF: How much is toxicity on this issue a function of culture wars playing out online? JB: I think we are living in anti-intellectual times, and that this is evident across the political spectrum. The quickness of social media allows for forms of vitriol that do not exactly support thoughtful debate. We need to cherish the longer forms.
A lot of people are genuinely terrified about what will happen if Donald Trump wins reelection and it's really weird how some of y'all are acting like everyone begging you to vote for Biden is some privileged, rich, out of touch, neo-liberal when a lot of them are just vulnerable people who don't want to like...die in a brutal civil war or watch all their remaining rights get stripped away by an increasingly authoritarian Republican Party.
I do not know how to express to you how much worse it can get.
NonAmerican perspective here, but like....... do some of you really not see how bad it already is? Look back at 2016 and picture what you thought Trump's America would look like, four years into the future.
Did the 2020 that you predicted back in 2016 look like 197 thousand Americans dead of a virus that your leader deliberately downplayed the severity of for months? Did it look like your entire eastern coast in flames, the air across half the country unbreathable, the skies a hazy orange from the smoke and the glow of the fires, and your president saying "climate change has nothing to do with this"? Did it look like over two thousand missing children, who were taken from their parents by "the authorities" and then lost by those same authorities? Two thousand children in the care of a government agency have gone missing, and has your bossman even commented on it, or has he just continued extolling the dangers of immigrants?
Did the 2020 you imagined look like months of civil unrest, because police murdered yet another black man, and instead of condemning the act, your leader said "the answer to this problem is worse police violence, and to beat the protestors into submission."
Like, fuck me. Do you not see how bad it already is? This is what's happened under Trump in four years, and some of you are really out there going "hm yeah but Biden has weak policies tho." Would Biden take a global pandemic seriously? I suspect he would. Would Biden be open to working to stop climate change? He's already said loads about what he'll do to combat climate change. Would Biden completely fail to address the fact that women are being forcibly sterilised in ICE and children are being assaulted and going missing? I would be really surprised if he did nothing about that. Would Biden react to public outrage over cops murdering a civilian by sending in the national guard to attack peaceful protesters, assault journalists, permanently blind innocent civilians, and pepperspray children in the face? I really doubt it.
But Trump has done all that shit; is still actively doing all that shit, right at this very fucking moment. And some of you won't vote for Biden because you're not really a fan of his????
"Oh, Biden's too moderate for me" BIDEN IS TOO MODERATE, SO YOULL GO WITH DONALD "THERES NO VIRUS," "ITS BECAUSE THEY DIDNT MANAGE THE FORESTS WELL ENOUGH," "IMMIGRANTS ARE CRIMINALS," "SEND IN THE TROOPS" TRUMP INSTEAD?? You wanna let that guy win by default, to get another four fucking years, when he's already done this much damage?? WHAT THE FUCK, GUYS
This is genuinely what I donāt understand. How do you have such a fucking warped perspective on the world that you think not voting is somehow better than voting for Biden. Like, its actually boggles the mind.
Actually, you know what, I know what it is. Its fucking privilege. Its the privilege of every fucking middle class white person on here who thinks they somehow are taking the high horse because, well, both sides are really as as bad as one another. I mean, Biden is 100% a sexual predatory.Ā
Like this is some fucking cult of personality. Like this is some contest about whose side is the most morally high. Maybe yāall are too fucking close to the issue to see the impact Trump has had, so let me spell it out for you.
Trump has opened genuine concentration camps, which have left babies alone in cells for days and forcibly castrated people.
The Trump administration has openly admitted to collusion and tampering with the previous election with no negative side effect.Ā
There has been a steep rise in the number of Nazi/White Nationalist movements in the last four years, to the point where its actually normalised.
The Trump administration has had bleed on effects into other countries such as Australia whose government seems to revere Trump and, by extension, enabled a number of alt-right movements.
The murdock press has had almost unrestrained freedom to tear apart anyone they want because extreme right winged beliefs are now so normal
People are simultaneously doubting the press more than ever, and yet believing it more than ever
Flat Earth and QAnon conspiracy theories exist as a directly result of Trump. WTF.Ā
There are more extreme cases of police brutality, egged on by self righteous cops who feel empowered by Trump and the rise of the alt-right.
Trump defunding the CDC, completely bungling COVID, resulting in America remaining the largest country effected by COVID and, as other countries are coming down from it, America is still in full force resulting in the highest death toll so far
Thatās also ignoring all the people who feel as though they can justify this decision on the grounds that the economy would suffer a bit or the belief that people dying isnāt so bad, as long as its not the worst thing killing people (re: COVID & Flu Deathtoll).Ā
The fucking wall.Ā
The continuation of the belief that unemployment is good regardless of whether or not the money provided is enough to live on. By extension, he introduced a new tax cut, promises to help the middle/lower class. It didnt, and actually made their tax worse while cutting it for the upper class.
He just fucking lies, constantly. not even shitty politician lies, but outright, fabrications with no weight behind him.
Heās taken more leave than any other American president in history
Trump ought to have been kicked out several times over and still hasnāt been
He has used his presidency to promote and sell products
He has used his presidency to avoid conviction. In fact, two weeks after his election he settled three fraud lawsuits related to his university. And thatās among many, many others
He called African countriesĀ āshitholesā, Mexican peopleĀ āRacistsā, and NazisĀ āVery fine peopleā.
Heās paid people off
Heās incited violence against several groups
Nepotism
And thatās, legit, not everything because his reign of hot fucking nonsense is so thick that we beginning to mistake it for the air we breath.Ā
I actually donāt care why you donāt like Biden. I donāt care if you think that Obama isnāt actually that good because he was directly involved in the killing of hundred of people during the Iraq War. I donāt care if you think voting means being an active agent in choosing. Trump is among the worst presidents the world has ever faced. Such to the point where the world is beginning to believe his BS, and the only way to cope is to turn a blind eye to it. But fuck that, and fuck you. Iām pulling you out of your ignorance to tell you this. Passivity is a privilege that those who are directly affected by his actions canāt afford to that, and by not voting you are putting lives in danger.Ā
Get off your thumb, and go fucking vote. Vote because your life depends on it.Ā
if a werewolf dies but they were an organ donor does someone get a new kidney that turns into a wolf kidney once a month
imagine having a feeling of pure bloodlust radiate from one side of your mid-back approximately every 28 days
I donāt need to imagine
*cancels plans* sorry i canāt come iām ugly

Life is ??% about knowing when to pick your battles, cut your losses and admit defeat, and to abandon ship when something youāve been working towards just isnāt going to make it. Itās not worth your time to sacrifice yourself in an attempt to save a doomed cause, a failed relationship or a tanking company - not only will it kill you, and not only will it hurt, youāll look like a fucking idiot while hitting every single rock on your way down.
Ā And life is also ??% about sticking to your guns and doing the hard work, gritting your teeth and chewing the hard meat once you bit more than you can chew. Nothing good ever came to those who quit halfway through, when you find yourself going through hell you keep going. No pain no gain, no guts no glory. True grit and hard work pay off, unless itās the former situation.
Ā And how do you know which one is which? You fucking donāt! Not ever! Literally no indication in any singular case is willing to give you a clue! Good fucking luck guessing! Fuck you!
I made a chart.
āfuckā I think properly describes it
The trifecta
The Trifuckta
The unholy trinity
Help Iām in this picture and I donāt like it
Yāall I just learned that unusually high sugar and carb cravings are a symptom of dopamine deficiency
If youāre adhd and experience a deep and all-encompassing urge to eat cake at least five times a day boy do I have news for you
Oh yeah, this is a hell of a thing. Years before my diagnosis I used to snack hardcore on chocolates and particularly candy whenever I was writing and insisted it āhelped me thinkā. Turns out that yup, that was my ADHD brain demanding sugar for the dopamine machine to help me pay attention.
(These days I just keep a bottle of high-glucose sports drink handy and slowly sip my way through it when I need to focus instead of slamming back whole packets of Nerds.)
Can confirm via lived experience. Iām known for my sweet tooth and consuming a LOT of sugar daily, which never seemed to affect myĀ āenergyā levels the way people say kids get hyperactive on sugar. It in fact simply helped me be steadier.Ā
Since I started taking ADHD medication, my cravings for sweet snacks have gotten down to almost zero, except if I need to make a specifically mentally challenging task. Wish I knew this before I only sought diagnosis past 30 years oldā¦

there is no medical component to a trans kid transitioning
if a little trans boy comes out to his parents & is like 4 all youd do for his transition is cut his hair, buy a new wardrobe, & switch pronouns & possibly change names
no one is gonna put a little 4 year old on testosterone OR puberty blockers until theyre actually about to start puberty & then they give them a few years to really decide if they want to start hormones
a trans kid existing isnt āchild abuse.ā child abuse is refusing to let your kid live their lives as they truly are & forcing them to present as a gender they arent
radfems who interact with this post will be blocked & your argument will not be read or even considered. i do not care about the opinion of a transphobe & my original post still stands.
a few years ago a kid in my preschool class transitioned socially and the only consequence was that as soon as her best friend discovered that changing your name is allowed she wanted to change hers to Detective
