Or any classic anime/kung fu sound effect in a DAW. Achieving the central spice of it anyway.
Preemptive warning: WATCH YOUR EARS. We are gonna be applying really high levels of resonance + some drive to this basic sound and it can hurt while fiddling, so do all this at a lower volume than usual.
Get ANY synth that can output white noise or even just a white noise sample you ripped from somewhere. Above I have Ableton's Analog synth with OSC 1 on only, set to noise, and the Amp envelope a straight block with all sustain, no release. The Amp level is set to 18 because you want a good ratio of noise to filter resonance, which you'll see what I mean by in a minute.
Then put on any low-pass filter with a lot of resonance and if possible a drive option. For this, I chose Ableton's default filter, with the PRD circuit emulation to allow me to apply drive. You can totally just copy my settings here, but the Envelope amount should be set to taste as it can vary how chunky or fresh the sound is. Remember what I said about the ratio of noise to filter resonance too, because if the noise sample is too loud, the SQUELCH of the resonance will be muddied. So if you feel like the sound is too "sandy" or flat white noise still, try reducing the source noise volume and upping the resonance.
Finally, for extra color, I've added an Overdrive plugin with low drive and wet% and a delay plugin with a fast delay rate. This could literally be anything you want to color up the sound--reverb, phaser, delay, heavier drive, whatever!
Now, have fun tweaking the frequency knob on the filter and watch this sound come to life. You can get anything from radios to laser blasts to hard crunchy punch sounds to exaggerated mech movement.
I absolutely love this sound element and use it in a lot of my sound design, you can make it the central focus or pare it back until it's just a layer. I spent years not knowing I had this right under my nose and was bowled over when I found out the key element of a lot of classic sound design was readily available. I prefer using Serum with all its modern possibilities to do this, but wanted to prove it could be done on the most basic tools too. Here's a video of me playing with the frequency knob and adjusting the envelope.
NOTE: in my vid, the resonance squelch lasts a little long after the sound for my taste. To reduce that, also automate the resonance knob and turn it down after the Anime Moment has been achieved
shit ton of people are repeating the thing about hayao miyazaki saying AI art is an "insult to life itself" and just as a reminder he was talking about the zombies that team made that were intended to be scary in how much they shook, but instead reminded him of his disabled friend. the insult to life itself was referring to the team trying to make scary real symptoms that people live with.
it was a quote about ableism. if he has said other things about AI type stuff, that is a different thing. but that specific quote was about ableism.
When he talks about technology here, he means a process of procedural animation to make a rigged 3D model move. An "evolution sim" type AI that slowly hones in on an efficient solution by iterating on random noise.
(It's called "AI" but AI is a meaningless buzzword and is also used to describe stuff like "video game enemies moving and behaving randomly" - this is not the same kind of "AI" as ChatGPT or Dall-E or so on, check out this video for an example of the kind of AI Miyazaki was reacting to in this clip; there's no potential issues of plagiarism because this sort of thing doesn't use training data in the same way).
Now, in the full clip, Miyazaki does show disdain for the idea of "making a machine that can draw like people do", he's firmly in the camp that creating art should be enjoyable, and why would you want to automate yourself out of it, but he isn't calling GenAI as a whole "an insult to life itself".
He is very specifically talking about the kind of "body horror" that's really just using physical disability for shock value. Please don't take that quote out of context.
yeah the stuff we now call AI isnt AI thats why it thinks there are 2 R's in Strawberry, its just pulling answers out of its ass but its good at guessing and its damn energy hungry at that, they just took a technology that was designed to look for Patterns in Medical data to find Cancer or Identify proteins and then modified it to churn out slop
also fuck ableism dont use peoples disablities for cheap horror or shock value

Can anybody give these old-ass Democrats protest lessons? They're acting like they're still living in pre-2015 politics when the GOP gave a shit and wasn't deranged.
A member gets up and starts shouting: All get up and shout with him.
Don't walk out: MAKE them carry you all out, not shutting up the entire time. I'm serious, go limp, be dead weight.
Putin's Puppet says a provable lie: Everyone chant "LIE" in unison for a solid minute instead of holding pitiful little signs in front of a man who can't read above a 3rd grade level.
Have someone who knows ASL sitting with you, interpreting everything in full view.
If you're gonna hold signs, make them BIG like you're actually trying to do something. Have them in multiple languages.
Make other signs that say clever or cutting things that will make him rage for days. "DOESN'T OLD TRUMP LOOK TIRED?" or "PUPPET PRESIDENT" or "EVERYONE IS FACT-CHECKING THIS SPEECH TRUMP DIDN'T WRITE" or "THE EMPEROR HAS NO CLOTHES" or his current tanking approval rating next to a laughing emoji.
Make a stink every day in congress, throw as many bills as you can on the floor even if they go nowhere, look like you're trying.
Have someone, idk maybe someone you actually want to boost for President in 3 gd years, be your voice of opposition in the media, loudly complaining and telling the facts, every single day. Let the people know you're there!
How hard is this? There's probably better suggestions than mine if they actually hired seasoned protestors or behaviorists/psychologists or even the biggest teenage troll they can find on a messageboard.
The Emperor Has No Clothes. So fucking act like it.
Going strictly off of what we have seen so far, here are a number of observations that can be made.
First things first, the Miis have ears now. It also appears as though every Mii they have shown off so far has a hairstyle different to the vanilla Mii Maker hairstyles as well. A number of Miis present are also wearing makeup and have highlights in their hair, which probably indicates that the Miitopia Mii Maker will be returning (or some variation of it at least will be.)
The main focus of the trailer seems to be the activities a lot of the Miis are getting involved with, with a greatly expanded world for them to interact. Each Mii appears to have their own house instead of sharing an apartment. Presumably the color of each house is indicated by the Mii's favorite color.
Out of all the new locations visible so far, we have Mii News, the pawn shop, food mart, clothing store, and interior store. In addition to those, we have a new building called Quik Build, which we know nothing about. Though if I had to speculate, I assume this shop will be used for building houses or other things on the island, or something of that nature. No hat shop anymore it appears, instead it seems as if the clothing store will probably be combined with the hat shop.
A building named Tomoria and a lighthouse are also visible, I assume that Tomoria is the cafe. The lighthouse is an entirely new structure, which appears to just be a visitor location akin to the tower or the beach.
Now, besides all of this, I speculate there is a lot we have yet to see. For one thing, we still have no clue if gay marriage will be a thing in this game (or if marriage will be a thing at all, but it would be kind of ridiculous for them to just get rid of that suddenly). For another, design wise, this game definitely seems to be leaning down the same route as Animal Crossing New Horizons, and I believe it is a possibility that we may end up with the ability to customize or decorate our own islands in some form. The new building points to that potentially being a thing, but I suppose we won't know until we get more details. For now, we await more news before the 2026 release.
