@mapm107
you live in LA right? do you have any recommendations on things to do? (that aren't partying or drinking) like for people coming in from out of town? i would love to get a local's perspective.
Oh for shizz! I’d say that there are actually a lot of fun things that you can do that are super cheap or free. Usually when people come to visit me I get tickets for at least one show taping, you can see stuff like Jimmy Kimmel for free and if you are willing to get up at the break of dawn you can hit up shows like The Price Is Right. Hollywood Boulevard is another super popular place, and I’d say that you should at least check out the Santa Monica Pier or Venice Beach, if you have time I’d do both. There’s also the Getty Center and Griffith Park which are either really cheap or free, and while it’s pretty expensive I know Universal Studios is a pretty good time. Also if you’re into it you can probably score tickets to a test screening of a movie, it’s also free and it’s kind of a unique experience and interesting to see a movie way before it’s going to come out.
To be honest.. if more children were shown from birth that they are loved, cared for, and listened no matter their gender we might not have some of the problems we have now.
Parents: Aloof disdain! Shun! Distance!
Also Parents: Why doesn’t my child talk to me?
You can only reblog this today.
I missed my chance last year. Not gonna let it happen again
For Women’s History Month, let’s write women back into science history.
Female scientists have contributed to some of science’s biggest breakthroughs, from unraveling the structure of DNA, to discovering fission, to mapping the ocean floor. So why don’t we know their names? In this archival episode of Science Friday, we’re celebrating science’s unsung heroines. We’ll hear about Maria Sibylla Merian, the 17th century “mother of entomology,” whose watercolors documented insect metamorphosis. We’ll also learn about Marie Tharp, whose maps of the ocean floor paved the way for continental drift theory. Plus, meet the women programmers of the ENIAC, the first all-electronic, multipurpose computer. Learn about more unsung women of science here.
Watch: President Jimmy Carter tells Oprah America is no longer a democracy, it’s an oligarchy — and he’s not wrong.
Oprah always picks the best stories to share
PREACH!
Remember when Pres. Carter was pressured into giving up his peanut farm by republicans because it was looked at as a conflict of interest with him being the president and all but still having his own business. They even investigated him for half a year to see if there were any questionable financials within his peanut growing operation. compare that to what we’re currently dealing with…crazy.
the moment you see how Trump’s businesses are benefitting from his presidency Carter’s conflict of interest seems like peanuts by comparison

I don’t need the added dust in the eye this mornin, but maybe some of you do.
In matters like this, honesty is ALWAYS the best policy…usually.

These are the headlines I like to see.
The 2nd Amendment is no longer the right to bear arms. The 2nd Amendment has become the right to take lives. The 2nd Amendment is no longer aiding citizens. The 2nd Amendment is now abetting murderers.
When the laws don’t work, the laws must change.
Well, clearly you failed 9th grade Social Studies.
You know… I honestly don’t remember how did in 9th grade Social Studies?
I did okay majoring in Political Science and American Government in undergrad though. I graduated summa cum laude so I figure I must have learned something?
Law school also went alright I guess? I did somehow manage to get an article about the constitutionality and modification of excessive force laws through out the 50 states placed in a national publication. And I also managed to pass the Bar Exam.
But yeah it’s totally possible I failed 9th grade social studies tbh. I was a little shit when I was 15 and gave no fucks.
Hey, 911, I just witnessed a murder.
I’m????
Oh my God this actually explains so much.
So there’s a known thing in the study of human psychology/sociology/what-have-you where men are known to, on average, rely entirely on their female romantic partner for emotional support. Bonding with other men is done at a more superficial level involving fun group activities and conversations about general subjects but rarely involves actually leaning on other men or being really honest about emotional problems. Men use alcohol to be able to lower their inhibitions enough to expose themselves emotionally to other men, but if you can’t get emotional support unless you’re drunk, you have a problem.
So men need to have a woman in their lives to have anyone they can share their emotional needs and vulnerabilities with. However, since women are not socialized to fear sharing these things, women’s friendships with other women are heavily based on emotional support. If you can’t lean on her when you’re weak, she’s not your friend. To women, what friendship is is someone who listens to all your problems and keeps you company.
So this disconnect men are suffering from is that they think that only a person who is having sex with you will share their emotions and expect support. That’s what a romantic partner does. But women think that’s what a friend does. So women do it for their romantic partners and their friends and expect a male friend to do it for them the same as a female friend would. This fools the male friend into thinking there must be something romantic there when there is not.
This here is an example of patriarchy hurting everyone. Women have a much healthier approach to emotional support – they don’t die when widowed at nearly the rate that widowers die and they don’t suffer emotionally from divorce nearly as much even though they suffer much more financially, and this is because women don’t put all their emotional needs on one person. Women have a support network of other women. But men are trained to never share their emotions except with their wife or girlfriend, because that isn’t manly. So when she dies or leaves them, they have no one to turn to to help with the grief, causing higher rates of death, depression, alcoholism and general awfulness upon losing a romantic partner.
So men suffer terribly from being trained in this way. But women suffer in that they can’t reach out to male friends for basic friendship. I am not sure any man can comprehend how heartbreaking it is to realize that a guy you thought was your friend was really just trying to get into your pants. Friendship is real. It’s emotional, it’s important to us. We lean on our friends. Knowing that your friend was secretly seething with resentment when you were opening up to him and sharing your problems because he felt like he shouldn’t have to do that kind of emotional work for anyone not having sex with him, and he felt used by you for that reason, is horrible. And the fact that men can’t share emotional needs with other men means that lots of men who can’t get a girlfriend end up turning into horrible misogynistic people who think the world owes them the love of a woman, like it’s a commodity… because no one will die without sex. Masturbation exists. But people will die or suffer deep emotional trauma from having no one they can lean on emotionally. And men who are suffering deep emotional trauma, and have been trained to channel their personal trauma into rage because they can’t share it, become mass shooters, or rapists, or simply horrible misogynists.
The only way to fix this is to teach boys it’s okay to love your friends. It’s okay to share your needs and your problems with your friends. It’s okay to lean on your friends, to hug your friends, to be weak with your friends. Only if this is okay for boys to do with their male friends can this problem be resolved… so men, this one’s on you. Women can’t fix this for you; you don’t listen to us about matters of what it means to be a man. Fix your own shit and teach your brothers and sons and friends that this is okay, or everyone suffers.
The next time a guy says, “What? You don't want to be my friend?” I’ll text him this and then ask if he really wants to be friends or just have another potential girlfriend.
y’all I am living for these analyses where the new way to fight the patriarchy is to teach men to love each other and themselves
The FCC voted to repeal Net Neutrality, but I would like to reiterate to all of you that now is not the time to panic. It’s time to get angry and active, but not time to panic.
Clickbait sites are painting today as the definitive “end” of it all, but it’s not. This shit’s still got to go through the courts.
The FCC has tried to repeal net neutrality twice before, and both times it got denied by the courts.
The voting public’s support for Net Neutrality is overwhelming. Last I checked, 83% of polled voters nationwide are in support of Net Neutrality staying.
Republican politicians and lawmakers are aware of this overwhelming support and have been voicing their support as well.
Doug Jones victory in Alabama was a wake-up call for Republican politicians, letting them know they are not invincible.

This is not a time for panic, it is a time for anger and for action. Let them know that this is not the end, only the beginning.
OH MY LORD WHAT EVEN IS HAPPENING
Which cast is going to go the Puerto Rico with Lin? I thought Mathanee said it was the Philip Tour but then there were other Angleica Tour cast mates speculating that Lin was just gonna try and pull as many Latinx actors from various casts to do it. Do you have any ideas?
It’s too far ahead to tell by dates.
I haven’t heard Mathenee say anything about it being Philip but I might’ve just missed it.
But I have heard rumors Lin is either gonna do that or try to get as many OBC or Puerto Ricans as he can and pull together a special cast just for PR. We’ll just have to see, as the dates for the rest of the tour gets announced it’ll be easier to tell some idea of what’s happening.
