Today’s redditships tweet is a doozy. This guy isn’t just a shitty boyfriend, he sounds like he just has a total lack of empathy and people skills if he thinks this was a good idea.
Was he really that foul here? See this is why I don’t critique after the fact, I just move on if the performance is bad.
Was he really that foul to show his girlfriend porn (which isn’t real) and give her tips like she’s a football player watching a game playback? After she locked herself in the bathroom crying?
You shouldn’t be “critiquing” your partner’s sexual abilities. If you want to ask for things ahead of time or even in the moment, or have a conversation where you talk about preferences or fantasies, that’s different. Unless they’re a sex worker on the job, the person you’re having sex with isn’t providing you a “service”. You don’t get leave a yelp review on sex and expect to have your order filled like you’re at a McDonalds.
“Unless they’re a sex worker on the job, the person you’re having sex with isn’t providing you a ‘service’. You don’t get leave a yelp review on sex and expect to have your order filled like you’re at a McDonalds.”
this is just such an excellent illustration of the ways that center-right/liberal pro-sex-work activism is really just repackaged religious tripe.
Well known woman hater Thomas Aquinas said “Prostitution is like a sewer in a palace. Take away the sewer and you will fill the palace with pollution.”
His meaning was that a certain class of women exists to absorb, indeed to serve as a sewer, for men’s dehumanizing and violent sexual desires, thus providing a buffer between this ignoble form of fornication and the “castle,” that is, the kind of wholesome fleshly congress reserved for good and proper women and their husbands.
We see this ancient pretext for misogyny repeated throughout history in a variety of ways, including the oft-cited-never-proven idea that modern prostitution (and pornography) somehow protects society at large, and women in particular, by providing a class of women upon whom it is acceptable to let loose the excrement that is violent male sexuality.
Prostitution and pornography are falsely attributed as being means by which to reduce rape and general violence against women when in reality, they just concentrate these things onto the rape-able underclass, leaving the “good” women to bear men’s children, clean their homes, and be their wives.
We also see a similar attitude in the quote above, whereby the degradation of a woman by means of critiquing her sexual performance and demanding that she behave like a pornstar is rightly seen as dehumanizing and offensive if done to a girlfriend, a woman who, we are meant to believe, is due a mutually respectful dialogue around sex, but magically becomes merely functional in a capitalistic-transactional way if done to a “sex worker.”
Thus Aquinas’s dichotomy of the castle and the sewer is perpetuated in a woke, sex-positive, 2019 misogyny-for-the-new-age kind of way.
“Don’t objectify and dehumanize this woman! Objectify and dehumanize others!”
How do liberals survive such cognitive dissonance? “Enthusiastic consent” and mutual respect is required, but it can be paid away 🤔
