Your most important survival skill is asking for help
Goddamn preach this
"Your most important survival skill is asking for help." THIS, it makes me so damn pissed off when parents try and normalize that asking for help is a taboo thing!
This feels important to reblog
It is so ridiculously easy to gain a reputation for being competent by just reading signs.
This is not metaphorical. I mean actual, literal pieces of paper/plastic/metal/whatever explicitly erected to inform the public.
āHow did you know this was the right trail?ā I read the sign.
āWow, how did you know what that flower is?ā Thereās a SIGN.
āHow did you know we needed to use the side door?ā THERE IS A SIGN POSTED ON THE FRONT DOOR.
Justā¦why are we having such different experiences of the world? People can read. I KNOW they can read. Thereās nothing wrong with their vision.
Just. READ. THE. GOD. DAMN. SIGN.

the problem with tumblr spells is all of you lil sluts are casting and not giving it time to charge so you're all casting cantrips and not 9th level death spells. everyone wants to be the one to take them down no one wants to be the one who assists
we're going to try again witha little but minimal casting
IT will happen in August of 2026. like to charge and reblog to cast but cast sparingly
Wait stop. everyone +like now and spread it a little but cast on the same day in August. lets try August 6th or something.

Camp Halfa
DPXPJO
It started with a late night ghost fight followed by a pre-dawn bus ride.
We'll technically it started with a Birthday gift. It came late as his parents always were with anything not ghost related. An admittance fourm for space camp and a bright orange NASA hoodie.
Fast forward a few months and an exhausted Danny was on a red-eye to New York. He was also still healing a few burns from Skullker's newest weapon.
So can anyone really blame him for sleepily following the first teen he heard mention Apollo wearing the same bright orange as him? Who else would be talking about a spacecraft while wearing such a garish colour if not a fellow camper.
He has a few fuzzy memories about the other teens asking if this is his first year at camp and worrying about how tired he was. How oddly understanding they had been when he 'joked' about a late night fight taking the life outta him. Something about a weird tree and sinking through a not green ghost shield like jello.
Next thing he knows he's awkwardly staring down a centaur in the most aggressive camp circle he's ever seen.
"Well this isn't space camp..." Danny muttered.
"How did you get through the barrier? What are your intentions?" The half horse demanded.
"It's always "Who are you?", "What are you doing here?" And the screaming and the weapons..." Danny whined with a sigh, "Can't it ever be, "Hey there fellow non human, you look like you could use a nap and some food"... No one believes in wholesome hospitality anymore..." the teen trails off.
"Apologies for the weariness, we have never had our barrier respond like that before. Usually you either ARE a halfblood or you AREN'T."
"Oh well I'm definitely half something." Danny snorted. "I don't suppose we can chalk this all up to a 'whoopsy daisies' and let me meander my way to space camp..." Danny bargained while backing up to the weird not ghost shield. He pouted once he hit a solid force instead of the jelly surface he had just gone through.
"Sadly once you are though the barrier, the only way out is to be given a quest or return home at the end of summer." The centaur explained.
"Oh, that's fine! I'm on a quest! A quest to get to space camp!" Danny declared and tried once more to sink through the barrier, even going so far as to try his intangibility. However he only managed to warp the barrier about a foot before he was flung back a few meters. There was a green sticky note on his forehead when he sat up.
There will always be time for space camp. Have fun with your new relatives SON. :)
~CW / Kronos
"Yeah... that smile is a threat." Danny Mumbled as he looked up to the field full of whatever half bloods were. Some were obvious, like the half goats and the half horse, the leafy people were probably half plant. He couldnāt be sure about all of the human looking people though.
He watched as all of them lowered their weapons and seemed to pale, even the previously unamused man with a diet cola can. They were all staring at him like he'd just kicked a box of kittens into a well. Some kept glancing from him to just above him and back in awe.
Hesitantly Danny looked up to see a neon green hourglass glowing above his head. An hourglass filled with grain and embossed with a scythe.
"He's been claimed by Kronos!" Someone exclaimed.
"How is that possible?" Another muttered and suddenly the shocked silence was broken and the crowd was all talking over one another with questions and denials.
Danny glared from the note to the glowing hourglass. "YOU OWE ME! If your sticking me with your messed up family for the summer, this had better be the BEST space camp of my life!" Danny yelled to the sky.
I think Wings of Fire relies too much on Animus slop
Animus magic feels overpowered to the point of being dull. It lacks a clear or consistent cost, its only real drawback is the vague idea that āpower makes you evilā which isnt much of a limitation at all. When a character can essentially do anything without definite consequences, it stops being interesting and starts feeling like a shortcut for the author to control the story however they want.
If you ask people on the fandom on some world building questions:
Why are the continents shaped like dragons? Animus slop
Why IceWings bleed blue? Animus Slop
Whats with the world's size inconsistency? Animus slop Character's bad traits? FIX IT WITH ANIMUS SLOP
Plot holes? FIX IT WITH ANIMUS SLOP
"Why can character X just do Y with animus magic"
This plot relies on this enchantment/animus object. ANIMUS HERE ANIMUS THERE
Its crazy how saying something (or like a prompt) could give you a lazy solution, without any effort!
This often turns animus magic into a catch-all explanation. Complex questions or inconsistencies, whether itās unusual biology, geography, or even plot holes get brushed aside with āanimus magic did it.ā Instead of adding depth, it can flatten the worldbuilding and remove the need for creative problem-solving
Magic systems tend to be more engaging when they come with clear limits, trade-offs, or rules that force characters to make difficult choices. Without those constraints, animus magic risks feeling less like a compelling part of the world and more like an easy way out.
Have we truly lost to think creatively or critically for Animus slop?
You kind of already said it, but 99% of the time animus slop just makes more plot holes, like, problem? Why didn't they just animus it??? The drawbacks are way to murky and inconsistent to be really significant
I totally agree that it makes the plot really wonky and dulls down the world building.
That being said, I really like how the history of the Ice Wing tribe was built up a lot with animus gifts that were specific and had a lot of societal ramifications (ie: gift of order), but ALSO one could argue that ice wing history relies way to heavily on the history of the gifts.
If they had written or oral traditions which allowed for the knowledge of the gifts and even their creators to be passed down, then there has to be something more unique than just a really long list of magic thingemagigs.
A little off topic atp, but I would like to (through Tui or just fan stuff) flesh out the history of each tribe more specifically, not just certain dragons who had important effects on Pyrrhia as a whole. There have to be some civil wars or something right?
Of course Tui's books are primarily targeted at kids so it's hard to get really fleshed out world building that makes the world feel like kingdoms and tribes rather than a really small group of dragons running around the continent.
Seconded! The most fascinating thing, to me, about Animus magic is that despite the books' events making it clear animus magic doesn't actually *have* limitations, the common conception of it in-universe maintains that it *does*. I would love to see an exploration into what sparked those ideas in dragon society, and what motivated the institution of the Icewing Gift system for their Animus dragons. Animus power being the catch-all cause of anything sufficiently odd about the world is boring, especially when other options can be explored instead!
Animus magic being 'omnipotence lite' does make it very difficult to write compelling stories around it, but I would absolutely love to explore it more. What crazy stuff has Animus magic been responsible for in the past? Did it exist in the pre-Scorching era, or did it pop up sometime after tribes started being a concrete thing? Are the weird magical bits of dragon biology result from some ancient Animus spell, (stuff like frostbreath, Mudwing blood eggs, Skywing twins sometimes pooling all their 'inner fire' into one of the pair, Nightwing moon powers, leafspeak, maybe Rainwing camo working despite stuff like blindness, etc.) Or did Animus power arise *from* those weird magical bits of draconic biology?
#genuinely: this is what further research into the famous 'marshmallow test' showed#it wasn't that kids who were able to delay gratification were more likely to be successful later on#due to intrinsic qualities#it was that kids who had a stable upbringing were more likely to be successful#and ALSO: those kids had trust that their caregivers would keep promises#which is WHY they were willing to give up one marshmallow now for the promise of two marshmallows later#kids who did NOT have trustworthy caregivers#or who were in a fundamentally unstable situation#DID NOT have that trust so they wanted their one marshmallow NOW#same deal here i think#it's not that Gen Z is bratty#it's that they have no trust in the system and no faith that promises will be fulfilled#and frankly i do not blame them -@cicerfics

They semi-cancelled Timothee Chalamet for simply saying he found opera and ballet boring, by the way.
How does Hollywood work these days?
Being a bit of a naive, foolish young man and (wrongfully) calling opera and ballet irrelevant?
āYou must apologise immediately! No Oscar for you.ā
Acknowledging you stole terrified teenage girls from their bedrooms?
āEh, you get a pass.ā
Kidnapping teenage girls seems kind of worse than being stupid and uncultured, in the grand scheme of things.
āWell, Tim is dating a Kardashian sister.ā
Embarrassing as it is, this other man admitted to war crimes.
In retrospect, one thing I kinda like in ATLA is how Zuko never tells the gaang how he got his scar.
It would have been cool to see their reactions to Zuko's story and see how their perspective on Zuko changed. And I have no doubt that he tells them about it at some point. But this way, it doesn't come off as emotional blackmail, with him trying to paint his actions as 'Yes, I hunted you across the world, but I actually had a really good reason."
If he did, he might have had a better chance of joining the Gaang, but he doesn't. In traditional Zuko fashion, he takes the most challenging route possible.
Zuko takes full accountability for his actions, even though they came from a place where he felt he had no choice. Because at the end of the day, he realized that even though his father put him on his avatar's path, he was the one who zealously attacked them at every opportunity. He isn't letting himself off the hook for anything.
#zuko is so funny to me because at multiple points throughout the show if he had any manipulative bone in his damn body #he wouldve gotten somewhere #blue spirit? why are you throwing fire. the avatar is talking with you. LIE. #its so fucking funny bc the gaang is like 'zukos EVIL he is PLAYING you' guys zuko doesnt know how to do that. #full honest truth confessing insane shit in front of them. he didnt even gaf about being friends or being FORGIVEN it was abt the goal #'i need the avatar to take me into their group so i may aid in however possible to stop my father' that was the goal. truly was like #'take me as a prisoner if this is the way i can help' HES CRAZY (@ponytailzuko)
'he doesn't know how to do that' fucking sent me!
Things just transpired in my house hold that are equal parts offensive and hilarious⦠Here goes.
So my roommate, Dale, has a gf who does not live with us, but sheās here all the time. So Sunday when my gf was her we were on the couch and we kissed (scandalous, I know) and she saw it, and Iām pretty sure thatās the first time sheās seen us be affectionate, thatās neither here nor there.
So today she tells Dale sheās āuncomfortableā here and wants him to move out because she thinks me and my lady are going to hit on her or something, she doesnāt like living with lesbians, cause itās not ānormalā, so now Iām pissed. Then, Dale goes, āwell you donāt live here, so it shouldnāt be a problem, just stop coming overāā¦things escalated and Dale is trying to break up with her, but she wonāt leave our houseā¦.she locked herself in Dales room.
So, Dale barges in my room wearing a bathrobe and goes, ācall every lesbian you know, weāre smoking this bitch out!ā Then turns around and whips his robe like a capeā¦
And thatās the story of how there are 8 lesbians climbing through the window of Dales roomā¦
Holy shit.
This is glorious
I like Dale. Heād break up with a bigoted girlfriend and he wears bathrobes like a cape. Not everyone would wear a bathrobe like a cape.
Some heros wear capes
I⦠have only seen this in screenshots.
I never knew Letās Go Lesbians was based on a true story.
