screw sponsored content, I’m doing anti-sponsored content. just gonna talk about brands that SUCK
says a person who charges people 5$ to tell them a joke
for fuck’s sake
there are nearly 45 THOUSAND original posts on my blog, free to read, written by me, the vast vast majority of which do not include a ko-fi or paypal link or mention money in any way. i post anywhere from 10-25 times a day (my own content, not reblogs from other users), including essays, researched posts, creative writing, and health & wellness articles that take hours to create and edit. (yes, articles! i write what would on a different platform be called articles!) this blog is free of sponsors & ads and again, everything on it is FREE TO READ???? i could easily put some of what i write behind a ko-fi paywall to encourage reader support, but i don’t, because i want it to be accessible to whoever needs it. people can—and do!—spend hundreds of hours browsing through my content free of charge. and the vast majority of people who enjoy my blog have never and will never send me donations, otherwise i’d be set for fucking life. and that’s fine, because there is no obligation. but i’m disabled, i’m otherwise unemployed, this is my job as far as I’m concerned, and currently it doesn’t even pay minimum wage.
and you know what? i regularly spend 25-40 hours a week running this goddamn blog, churning out content, talking about mental health, interacting with followers, answering questions, giving advice where i am qualified, and yes, telling jokes to make people laugh (which I see as valuable even if you don’t), all while quietly dealing with snide comments and outright bullying from sour little cantaloupes like you.
so if i want to occasionally make posts along the lines of for 3 bucks i will give you anxiety about swimming pools? then fuck you actually
south american bug diversity deserves more respect and it breaks my heart that nothing is done to protect them
god right
I’d do anything just to look at South American opiliones alone
There's a huge difference when it comes to piracy directed at a multi-billion company and one individual paywalling their content for the purpose of sustaining themselves.
You can download roms, music, movies and etc online and it's not gonna affect the company, while a content creator who tries to make a living through their own produced content can easily lose profit if their stuff is leaked.
But Sal, companies loose profit too?
Corporations and companies have the benefit of being able to market and promote their stuff to the entire world, especially through sponsorships, while a simple individual does't have that power. Companies such as these earn more than they lose from piracy, because they will still make revenue from whatever product they spit out. For several million dollars lost to people downloading music is nothing compared the billions of dollars they make in profit.
A content creator's whole purpose with their paywalled content is to support themselves financially by meeting the demands of the demographics they're trying to appeal it to. They worked on it. If the content creator's net based income is $2000 each month, compare it to a company that earns a billion and loses a million or several millions to piracy, there's a marginal difference in numbers and digits. Imagine what sort of effect it has on their income if you pirate and distribute their $5-7 tier content, a lot of their hard-earned money is lost, because you can't respect the integrity of these individuals.
Hey, remember late last year when everyone (in Australia) lost their shit over a Sydney production not casting a nb/trans person in the role of Hedwig and harassed the ousted lead actor online so badly he had to put himself under suicide watch? Well, as it turns out they did cast a nb actor - that same actor who put themselves on suicide watch after being bullied online - they just were not ready to be out yet.
So not to be a fandom old about it, but you know how there’s that big debate over whether or not LGBT roles have to be played by LGBT actors? Many more of them are played by LGBT actors who for whatever reason are not ready to be out yet (or ever.) And it’s truly none of your business.
Adding to this, there are a ton of reviews for the film version of Hedwig on Letterbox that gave it 1 star solely on the premise that it “wasn’t written by non-binary people”.
Cut to earlier this month and both John Cameron Mitchell and Stephen Trask have come out as non-binary.
Just because a person isn’t out, doesn’t mean they are cis/straight.
Wynonna Earp cast two cishet women as a lesbian/bisexual couple. Since then, both of them have come out as not straight (I don’t believe either of them have ever labeled themselves but their words seem like they’re both pan to me) and Dom is gender fluid and nonbinary. Both of them have credited their roles and the welcoming LGBT+ fanbase show as helping them realize they weren’t straight. Those roles helped them see past heteronormativity and explore their own identities.
Stop demanding personal information from actors and creators. If the representation is problematic, let’s talk about it. But if they’re doing a good job at portraying LBGT+ issues and people and relationships, let them live their lives in peace.
This is just like the situation with the short story “I sexually identify as an attack helicopter,” by Isabel Fall, a story exploring gender, sexuality and violence, which used the transphobic copypasta as a title in the same way many members of the LGBTQ community have reclaimed some pejoratives over time. The author didn’t give out much personal information and so the internet piled on, accusing her of being transphobic. The author was recently revealed to be a trans woman who stopped her transition because of how she was treated and spoken about by members of her own community and other critics on the internet.
#to make this clear harassment isn’t okay even if the actors truly were cishet

i am not joking we need to force teach cooking in schools. like. it is an essential thing for survival. do you know how easy it is to make things if you know even the bare bones shit about how cooking works. we need to teach teenagers how far you can take an onion and some other veggies it''s sad that people grow up not knowing how to prepare literally anything. and i'm not talking about oh this home ed class taught me how to make chicken nuggets at home i'm talking about learning the balancing of sweetness and acidity and saltiness and bitterness and shit like that and techniques and oil temperatures and how meats cook. it needs to be taught because it's literally not even that difficult and it matters so much
i truly believe that knowing how to cook is a basic survival concept and the fact that so many people can't even make simple dishes is depressing as hell this is the sorta thing that should be taught at a young age. being able to take the ingredients you have around your home and turn them into a meal is like, essential and will make life so much better. you don't need to be a high end chef you just need to understand some things that can be easily taught... but then again maybe the education system is playing a roll against this and ultimately they want you to grow up to rely on mcdonalds for dinner. i don't know. please learn how to cook for yourself if you're able. i'm not asking you to hunt for specific ingredients to make some expensive youtuber's "best" recipe but if you know the basics of cooking you can do a lot with cheap canned ingredients. cooking can be affordable i promise you just need to learn how to make do with what you can get
Can anyone point me towards resources that teach those basics cus I would LOVE to teach my child this stuff but i dont know how to cook
not comprehensive but heres some:
internet shaquille's basics but especially:
making rice
making scrambled eggs
making oatmeal
levels of cooking meat
using & storing vegetables with recipes in the description (this one has a bit of Sassiness directed at people who dont like vegetables but the content is solid)
food safety + a recipe to demonstrate
how to learn to cook (just a list of subtopics, no actual tips)
cooking techniques playlist
how to cut x
basics with babish s1 & 2, but particularly:
freezer meals,
weeknight meals,
kitchen tools (although the specific suggestions are pretty expensive even with the lower end scale items the basic categories are solid, and you can evaluate what items you will realistcially need - eg. if you dont need to read temp for steaks etc the temp reader will not be relevant) &
kitchen care (mid-high advanced home cooking)
basic knife skills
picking the right pan for each recipe
j. kenji lopez-alt's tips and tricks playlist
egg recipes
a little more complicated, involved, and longer than any of the rest of these but good breakdown of flavor & how and why to use the basic seasoning/flavor profiles
and then recipe channels representing various cuisines:
j. kenji lopez-alt (various)
marion's kitchen (southeast & east asian, western/asian fusion)
maangchi (korean)
future neighbor (mostly korean)
the western supermarket playlist of chinese cooking demystified (more recipes available but these are accessible if you dont have "specialty" ingredients)
family recipes playlist by made with lau (chinese)
not another cooking show (various)
cooking with boris (bear with me here i know he does it exaggeratedly humorously but a lot of them are actually solid and beginner cook friendly. mostly slavic/russian)
you suck at cooking (also falls into the intentionally humorous category but most of the recipes are pretty solid anyway)
how to cook that (baking, also does debunking videos of viral cooking hacks - breaks down the reasons the hacks dont work, pretty important to understand those basics imo)
internet shaquille (various)
babish culinary universe (various)
i REFUSE to recommended joshua weissman because he is fucking insufferable but if you want you can try if you can deal with it, the techniques/recipes seem fine for the most part
again definitely not a comprehensive list but it touches on most of the basics

ok legend….
CAN WE PLEASE TALK ABOUT HOW THE RIGHT WILL KICK AND SCREAM AND CRY AND PISS THEMSELVES OVER THEIR SUPPOSED FREE SPEECH, CALLING OTHER PEOPLW SPECIAL SNOWFLAKES AND MAKING FUN OF SAFE SPACES? SO HOLD UP. SEVEREAL OF THESE SNOWFLAKES GOT MAD, AT A STICKER, A FUCKING STICKER PEOPLE,, SO MAD AT A STICKER THEY LITERALLY CALLED THE POLICE, AND TRIED TO ARREST THIS WOMEN,,, NAH DOG BUT LEFT LEANING PEOPLE ARE THE SENSITIVE ONES OHHHHHKAYYYY DUDE
hey so I looked it up and she was released on bail, so that’s good. also, the police were trying to argue that she should be charged with DISORDERLY CONDUCT for this and the ACLU was just like… no.
now she has a sticker that says fuck (the sherif’s name) too LOL
Love it
Queen
Ok but if anybody’s interested there actually is a super famous case called Cohen v California
Cohen v. California - Wikipedia
Wherein during the Vietnam war, this dude named Cohen got arrested for obscenity on THE STEPS OF A COURTHOUSE for wearing a jacket that said “fuck the draft.”
SCOTUS ruled that it was symbolic speech, not obscenity because it had a meaning beyond the literal meaning (I.e. Cohen did not wish to say “engage in coitus with the draft”) but was actually making a political statement against the draft. WHICH IS PROTECTED BY FREEDOM OF SPEECH, aka the first amendment. Meaning the government cannot criminalize it.
So actually this lady is engaging in PRE ESTABLISHED LEGALLY PROTECTED POLITICAL DIALOG and I think that’s beautiful.
