The fact that I have not had this blog for a year and hit 200 followers is just incredible to me! I want to thank you all so much for your support and kind words over these months! When I started this blog, I just wanted some place to post my pics from sso (that wasn’t instagram bcs I don’t even know how to use that app lmao), so to get such a positive response has made me love this game more than I originally did! Magical horses were for the first time released in 2016 with a contest to design them. It’s like that one of the worst things of the game will start.

But at first it wasn’t that problematic: the magical horses, called “jorvik wild horses”, used to have very natural camouflage coats (1). You could easily ride them without attracting the attention. Even some of their magical coats were very subtle ( two of the nixies for example ). 

But it’s with the new models (2)  that it became a total nonsense: the magical coats remained magical, for that part it was logical. The main problem is that their camouflage coats are less and less realistic and look more like fantasy horses. And the problem is ? The problem is that it destroys their lore. They are supposed to have a very neutral appearance in the cities to not being noticed, not attracting the attention because their markings aren’t normal.

The only exception seems to be the fawncy but sadly they never remade a so simple and discreet one.

Now a simple question: if magic is supposed to remain secret and rare, is that logical that anybody could buy and ride those horses without any quests/collection/achievement and a too weird coat ? No, it’s not. And magical horses should remain slow as well as the place of a horse which doesn’t want to be noticed isn’t in a championship.

The ultimate bad move for the lore and the logic was the new wild horse ( which isn’t a magical one, only the ancestor of the horses. When I used to call heavy horses mammoths, I didn’t know that they will be inspired ). Nobody can find that normal, not even the dumbest person. But it’s not even hide. They don’t even make any effort to explain it, to make it logical. It’s just “here’s another horse, it’s cute, buy it to look cool”.

And that, people, was only my first rant.

i agree, i wish it had remained consistent n logical from the lore perspective that we were presented with. if they’d said from the beginning, “jorvik has a lot of unique and magical horses and everyone knows it” then ok! but saying that the magical horses are rare, unique and special, then throwing them around like its nothing, it just destroys the lore and immersive feeling

As usual I’m going to disagree, because I’m SSO’s bitch and I also see nothing unnatural about the normal coats. Sure, is it weird to see a fjord with spots? Maybe. Would you look at a fjord with spots and think “I bet that horse is actually made out of wood and mushrooms and glow-in-the-dark dots”? No. You’d say, yeah, he’s probably a mixed breed or something. Nice. 

Ayla and Umbra? Just like the rune runner, their coats are clipped. Their mane is dyed. Would your first response to seeing a horse with a pattern shaved into their coat be “I bet she’s from the MOON!”? No. You’d think huh, that’s a really creative owner. I wonder if they can do my horse like that too.

The pink water horse might be considered weird, but in a world of a thousand bays, why can’t one horse look like that? It could be explained as a chimera. Would people fawn over their color? Probably. Would their first thought be “So you must be from horse atlantis?” No. That’s insane and no reasonable person is going to look at these coats and think there’s anything strange about them, if you’re under the basis that magic isn’t real. They can do championships if they want to, because them purely existing does not in any way compromise their magical nature. Put yourself in the shoes of an NPC. You travel to Öland and see a fjord with striped legs. Is that going to make you think that horse is secretly a pumpkin? Are you immediately going to call out “Magic exists and the legs of that horse proves it!”? You’d be hospitalized, because that’s insane.

I will agree that Solas is bullshit, but here’s the thing. At the end of the day this is an online game where what you buy and how you look is for other players, not NPC’s. If you want horses that align with the lore you’ve adapted into your game, don’t buy anything that strays from the vision. But SSO is by far not the only gaming company to want to give paying users something sick as fuck to ride. Online games do it all the time. The special horses in red dead like the endgame mustang aren’t just normal bays for a reason, and that is because it is a special horse that you worked for, and you might want to show your hard work off. I have a pegasus in AC Odyssey despite the entire game being built on real life history and them focusing heavily on reality. Kassandra riding a pegasus doesn’t align with the company’s statement that Assassins Creed games are based on real historical events, or the lore of the actual game, but that doesn’t matter because I can distinguish what I decide to do with their game from their own statements. SSO is doing what all other video game companies do, and people just like to give SSO shit because that has become some kind of strange norm.

Morning after the big action. Hugh had checked him out while he still was sedated and turns out this one has a bruised hoof sole. However he got that since, to quote Hugh on that “his hoofs are bulletproof”. He must have had very bad luck. He got a shot of anti-inflammatory drugs and now he has to rest for like five days. I am still arguing about that with Hugh since he said a week at least, but you should hear this boy calling for his herd. It’s heartbreaking. He is not too bothered about us humans anymore, it’s like he is ignoring us, like he is some mystic creature that doesn’t even care about us. Only when we try to touch him he gets feisty. Secretly I started to call him Valerian. Even though I know he won’t stay for very long.

I’m pretty sure we’ve had a masterpost in the past that people would link to whenever someone new joined the community which was incredibly helpful, but it’s pretty outdated.

it makes me a bit uncomfortable how they sound like they have this “share your ideas! that we are going to steal for design inspiration! work for us for free!” attitude (its ofc not certain. they might not at all be looking for inspiration for the coat designs in this hashtag, but they might). 

especially because most people who see this are children and are unlikely to be aware that if they design a horse that gets put into a game, they should be paid for their work and not just be tricked into thinking “yay! sso put my horse in the game!” as if that is enough reward for the work of creating a design concept.

IF (not sure) they might take inspiration from these hashtag designs, then they need to be upfront about it, like: “we might use your design as inspiration for a coat in the game”, “we might put your design into the game”, etc. 

if they would do it without being upfront about it, its an invitation to design-theft and unpaid work…. so yeah i just felt uncomfortable when i saw this earlier.

im excited for the horse tho since i like more draft and thick and fluffy horse breeds, just hope it will have natural coat colours!

Personally, I disagree. For those who don’t know I have a DeviantArt account and I spend a lot of time in closed species, mostly equine-themed species. A lot of these breeds have some things called “mutations” which are special markings. A lot of these groups have older players and even contests for people to bring their ideas for mutations. People go into this knowing that their ideas will no longer be theirs and owned by the group. However if you really wanted to, you could DCMA if you no longer wanted it to be associated with that company/group. (I’ve seen it happen a couple of times now, people in pixel art horses are kinda crazy sometimes)

However I think SSO is plainly just wanting to see what their player base comes up with. If they do take a design and the person happens to be an older player, that player could possibly technically file a DCMA (maybe, I’m not a lawyer)

When SSO does want player input/inspiration they usually say it. An example of this is the first Jorvik Wilds where they specifically asked them for inspiration and made it clear that they would probably use the design. Even then, I don’t think they stick very close to the OG art made by the fan. So I wouldn’t be very worried.

most of you are probably unaware but Polands just had the first round of one of our most important presidential elections and let me just say that i am afraid of whats to come:

the most votes went to “our” current president Andrzej Duda from PiS (one of the biggesr parites here) He is homophobic (he made up “no lgbt zones” in our country, just lately he said that lgbt+ people are not actually people but just an ideology, hes against gay marriages or gays addopting, he allows to hate on lgbt+ people) hes racist, he wants to take away womens rights to decide of their own body (abortion is illegal), he made it so sex education in schools is ILLEGAL FUCKING ILLEGAL and any teacher who will try to teach kids basic sex ed will go to jail but taking your kids hunting is legal, hes catholic so everyone must be aswell (he doesnt care about those who believe in somethign else or in nothing at all) they constantly do something behind peoples back and break constitution, they dont care about nature or environment. All PiS does is offer money (that comes from super high taxes) to poor and dumb people just so they will blindly go after them and spread hate. 

and one of the other candidate who also got a lot of votes is named Krzysztof Bosak from Konfederacja and the fact that people of Poland, a country with such a history that we have voted for someone whos: FASCIST (why just why),  antisemite, homophobic, wants to take away womans right to vote (!?!?!?1?!?!?why did so many young women voted for him why are people so dumb!?!?!?) sexist, racist of course, doesnt care about nature and enviroment also, wants poland out of EU (when we literally have 99% of all kinds of things only bc eu) 

theres still round two between Duda and Rafał Trzaskowski (our last hope for now) so please keep in mind whats going on in poland, keep us in your prayers.

First of all I want to apologize for my English. I know it’s not that good, but my main language is Polish, so I hope you will understand me.

As you may know, Pride Month started today! It’s amazing time for everyone, we can spread the love and positive energy to each other and not be afraid to be ourselves. But in the same time, there is a lot of countries where being part of LGBT+ community is illegal. It’s hard for me, because my country is on that list too. It’s not cool to be stuck in closet or not being able to get married with person who you love, but I hope someday we all will have freedom and nobody is going to take our rights away.

But in the same time, please don’t let #BLACKLIVESMATTER be ignored! It’s pride month and that means we ALL need to support each other, there’s no place for racism! We can’t be quiet, it is so important to speak loud about it! So let me say this one more time: BLACK LIVES MATTER- always have and always will. Stay strong!

I really dont feel like a member of the Soul Riders. I feel when they ask me to help of come with them, its cause they want me to feel like I'm part of the group so I keep helping them, or cause they think I'll be of use. I felt like when Anne was in pandoria, that they were kinda using me fill her position, and now that shes back, I'm just a fifth wheel who's just kinda tagging along. They all run ahead as a group, and I'm left in the dust. Honestly, I think I know exactly how Catherine felt.

It felt like we were just a replacement for Anne to be honest. Like, yeah we’re useful for them. But... what else? We ain’t their friends, even when they are nice to us or something it feels... weird. Fake. Honestly how we are supposed to trust them, if they ain’t even treating us like one of them. That sucks.
