2. Zolotse (Золотце) - darling, Solnishko (солнышко) - sunshine
You drop your keys on the table once you enter your apartment, looking back as Yelena closes the door behind her.
“So?” You acknowledge as you plop yourself down onto the couch. She automatically follows suit, pulling your legs over hers and looking at you expectantly. “So?” She repeats.
“What did you think?” You ask with a raised scrutinizing brow.
“About your parents?” She clarifies and you nod slowly. “They were lovely, of course!” She expresses jovially. “Could you not tell I was enjoying myself?” Yelena assures you while stroking your jean clad legs.
“Yes, but you’re an excellent liar and I couldn’t tell if it was for my benefit or not.” You admit with a sheepish smile. Yelena frowns and moves closer to you on the couch, you were practically in her lap.
“Zolotse, I’m only good unless I’m lying to you and you always see through it, I have no reason to lie. I thought they were great!” She suddenly starts laughing uncontrollably causing you to crack a smile instantly. “And the joke your dad told about the flopping fish really made me laugh. I will have to steal that one.”
You watch fondly as your girlfriend throws her head back and genuinely laughs at your dad’s treasured, yet tired fish joke. Only Yelena would actually get a kick out of it and you loved her more for it. You feel the strong urge to take her face in your hands and kiss her senseless. So you do.
She’s slightly taken off guard as she’s lost in thunderous laughter, whimpering when your lips meet hers. She quickly catches on and deepens the kiss, swiftly taking control. Yelena nudges you until you’re on your back, your head on the arm rest and your legs around her waist. She breaks the kiss to travel along your jaw and leave searing kisses on your neck.
Miraculously, you were able to gain enough composure to find your voice again. “I’m glad it went well. I want to give you something.” You parted from each other breathlessly and you fished for something in your pocket. You then present a single key to her.
She stares at it for a moment. Her eyebrows go up and then down and then up again at a loss for words. “Is this what I think it is?” Yelena asks in a whisper, reaching for the key.
“Yeah. And it’s yours if you want it. I figured a lot of your stuff is here anyway and you’re here when you’re not away at work and more than you are at your place and I love that. I love you.” You give her a hopeful smile and await her response. Yelena sighs buoyantly and lunges at you with a hug and a fervent kiss before she pulls away abruptly.
“Wait, were you not going to give me this if I said I didn’t like your parents?” She asks speedily with concern. “No, baby!” You assure her, taking her hands in yours. I was always gonna give it to you, now just felt like the perfect time.”
Yelena nods with a warm smile. “It was.” She emphasized with a kiss to the back of both your hands. “And I will gladly keep it, thank you.”
“Of course. Now let’s go to bed, I’m exhausted.” Yelena laughs and agrees, keeping your hands linked as she leads you to the bedroom.
Yelena took on this new responsibility, this new privilege, with pride. You never discussed fully moving in together, but it was an unspoken understanding between the two of you that while it was welcomed, it was not required.
She loved that you didn’t bother to set any ground rules or change anything about your situation. And yet she couldn’t shake the feeling that something was set in motion.
She appreciated that you didn’t immediately bring up meeting her parents as well, but now the expectation was there and she felt like she had a specific time frame to deliver.
Your lack of mentioning it almost made her feel guilty because she wanted to take that next step with you, it’s just that…her family is crazy. Well, that and she wasn’t quite ready to admit that she had been lying to you about her job the whole time.
Yelena has told you stories about her family and showed you pictures so you know they exist, but she barely ever interacts with them in front of you. It is something you’ve noticed, but never commented on because you simply wanted to give your girlfriend her space.
When her sister calls and she has to leave the room or when her father calls and she starts speaking in hushed Russian you don’t question it because you trust her. And it’s things like that, that make Yelena think she doesn’t deserve you.
The holiday season completely snuck up on the two of you. You were constantly wrapped up in your work as an editor for a popular magazine and Yelena was busy with missions for SHIELD, posing as a consultant for a leading firm and trying to prepare for you to meet her family.
You were both sprawled out on the couch, cuddled close together and trying to find something to watch for the night when you noticed a large selection of holiday films in the recommended section.
“Oh my God, can you believe I forgot it was almost Christmas?” You laugh and shake your head aimlessly.
“Yes, actually. I did the exact same thing.” Yelena smiles, thankful that she is not the only one.
“We should go on a vacation.” You offer, suddenly. “I know you travel a lot for work, but we’ve never gone on a real trip together. How’s that sound? It might be nice. I’m sure you could find us a nice place to stay, somewhere far from the city.” You ramble, slowly getting more passionate about the idea.
This sparks an idea in Yelena that she doesn’t want to voice, but knows she must. “My family lives in the mountains, maybe we could drive up and visit them for a couple of days before Christmas. It would be a great opportunity for you to meet them…If you want.” She recited just like she practiced for the past week in the mirror, robotic smile and all.
“Oh! That would be amazing, babe. I would love to!” You exclaimed. “Great.” Yelena nodded, showing not nearly as much excitement as she thought she was.
Christmas week came faster than Yelena would have liked. Her leg wouldn’t stop bobbing in the car on the way to her parents’ home.
You however were ecstatic. Yes, you happily let Yelena have her privacy, but you were stoked to finally meet these people she seemed to be hiding away. “Babe? Everything okay?” You reached over to gently grip her thigh that wouldn’t stop bouncing up and down in the passenger seat.
“What?” She finally broke her blank stare at a smudge on the windshield. “Oh, yes, I am fine, just excited to see my family.” You frown, not fully believing her reasoning for the anxious behavior.
“You shouldn’t worry so much, I’m sure everything will be fine from what you’ve told me. And if they don’t like me… I don’t know, maybe they will eventually?” You offer calmly with a shrug of your shoulders.
Yelena chuckles, some of the tension in her shoulders releasing. “Oh, I’m sure they will love you, I’m not worried about that. They are just…They can be a lot.” She sighed, her eyelids fluttering shut just thinking about it.
“Well then, look at that, I’ve been warned, now I know what to expect. Everything will be fine.” You nod, equipping your most tranquil voice. Your girlfriend takes the hand you placed on her thigh, pressing the back of it to her lips. “You are right. Thank you.”
You arrive at the beautiful cabin belonging to Yelena’s parents that afternoon and approach hand in hand. Yelena’s father suddenly bursts through the front door before you can reach the porch.
“Yelena, Solnishko!” He bellows, rushing towards the two of you, taking his daughter into a crushing hug. She seems used to it. “Hi dad.” She murmured, allowing herself to melt into the embrace and let her guard down fully. He finally releases her and moves onto you.
“And Y/N! Come here, it is so nice to meet you.” His heavy Russian accent was deep and comforting in your ears as he drew you into him like only a father could. You thought you were being constricted by the most affectionate boa.
“Okay, you are killing her.” Yelena spoke, coming to your rescue.
“I am sorry, Y/N, you are alright, yes? I forgot the girls are used to it, but you need to catch up, huh?” He laughed heartily before guiding you inside. “I’m okay. It’s really nice to meet you too, Mr. Romanov.”
“Oh, what is that?” He squinted playfully. “My accountant calls me that, please call me Alexei. Now, come meet the family.”
In the large kitchen you find one blonde woman and one brunette woman preparing dinner. Both are incredibly beautiful and slim. You can see where Yelena gets her good looks.
“Ah, finally.” The brunette places the metal bowl in her hands on the counter and saunters over to you with the grace of a ballerina. “I never thought I’d see the day where Yelena stopped hiding you from us.”
“I could say the same about you all.” You flash your girlfriend an impish smirk.
“Okay, okay, I get it, it’s long overdue, moving on.” Yelena acknowledges. Everyone laughs and continues with the introductions. “Melina. It’s nice to finally meet you, Y/N.” Melina smiles, extending her hand.
“Likewise.” You say genuinely, shaking it. You note she is nowhere near as touchy as her husband.
It is then that the blonde steps forward. “I honestly didn’t think you existed, but I’m glad you do, welcome.” She smiles, bringing you into a slight hug. A happy medium between her mother and father. Her voice and overall aura is sultry and elegant without even trying.
Yelena could be heard sucking her teeth from behind you. “Shut up.” She grumbles. “Y/N, this is my annoying older sister Natasha. She doesn’t know when to stop getting on my nerves.”
Natasha only smirks as if the comment didn’t bother her in the slightest and hugs her sister. They exchange a few pleasantries in the form of whispers before Natasha goes back to cooking.
“How about you girls get settled and report back for kitchen duty. Christmas dinners are all hands on deck around here.” Alexei says. “Sounds good.” You nod, allowing Yelena to grab your hand and lead you down the hall.
Once you enter her room, you take everything in, studying your surroundings. It looks just like you expect it to. Nirvana posters on the walls, tons of books and sports trophies on the shelves and a few family photos scattered on the flat surfaces.
You turn to Yelena just in time to see her position one of the photos so that the picture is facing down on her nightstand. You silently question it with a furrowed brow, but say nothing.
You busy yourself with inspecting one of her books instead. “So this is where you grew up after you moved from Russia.”
“Yes and no. I consider it home, but we were always traveling… for my parents work." She quickly adds. "Natasha and I grew up everywhere.” Her voice lilting up as she thought fondly back on their adventures together.
“Oh, yeah that’s right. I don’t know why, but it’s hard to believe your parents are business people.” You laugh and Yelena reluctantly joins in. “Maybe your mom, but definitely not your dad.”
“He made it work.” She shrugged haphazardly. “I’m sure he did.” You acquiesce, reaching out to inspect one trophy in particular that caught your attention when Yelena approaches from behind.
She walks up to you, spinning you around and taking both your hands in hers. “I don’t want to talk about my parents. Not when I have you all alone in my childhood bedroom.” She whispers cheekily, taking your chin in between her fingers.
You smirk down at her wickedly. “Are you really trying to seduce me in your parents house as soon as we get here? While they're down the hall?” You question humorously, taking a step closer and wrapping your arms around her waist.
“That depends. Is it working?” She whispers before delivering a languid yet ardent kiss to your lips causing you to melt into her solid build. Her hands frame your face tenderly, deepening the kiss so that you both moan into each other’s mouths.
“Yeah, I think it is.” Your voice is cracking before anything has really happened. That’s the kind of effect she has on you and you loved every second of it. She leads you to the foot of the bed and pushes you slightly so that you land on your back.
Yelena pounces on you before you have time to fully grasp what’s happening. Her lips and hands are everywhere, gripping and kissing as much of you as she can. You are completely breathless and moaning by the time she unbuttons your pants, assaulting your neck with love bites.
She didn’t bother to undress you, which made it that much hotter. She just got straight to business dipping below your underwear and rubbing at your already wet clit. She attaches her lips to yours again when you let out a particularly loud whimper, swallowing it down and claiming it as her own. You begin to grind your hips into her skilled hand the closer you get to that sweet release.
“Fuck, Yelena,” You moan, feeling your climax approaching. “That’s right, Zolotse, give it all to me.” She purrs against your lips when suddenly you hear a loud knock on the door and an equally loud, burly voice.
“Girls, you are missing dinner, what is–oh!” The two of you jump apart and you cover yourself instinctively even though you are fully clothed.
You look up to see Alexei standing in the doorway of Yelena’s room, looking flusteredly up at the ceiling with his hands on his hips. “Forgive me, girls. I did not realize that…um, you were…you are adults of course, there’s no need to be, uh, ashamed, huh,” He inhaled deeply and continued to blink rapidly up at the ceiling.
“I mean you could have closed the door, of course, maybe put a sock on it perhaps, I don’t know, just an idea for next time. I want you to have fun on your visit, of course, please have all the sex you want, I know your mother and I–”
“Dad!” Yelena shouts, her eyes wide with embarrassment. “Thank you for the blessing, but you may go now.” Alexei nods quickly, his gaze never leaving the wooden beams above him. “Yes, I think that is best. Please continue, dinner will be ready soon.” He exits in a blur, closing the door behind him and you immediately fall into a fit of laughter.
“Did we really forget to close the door?” You giggle uncontrollably.
“Well, we usually don’t have to at our place, it is not something we need to think about.” Yelena joins in, releasing a chuckle of her own as she plays in your hair gingerly. You go silent at her words, looking up at her with wide eyes.
“You said our place.” You utter in pleasant disbelief. Yelena looks up, taking a moment to think back on the last fifteen seconds. “Yeah, I guess I did.” She grins proudly and bites her lip.
“I think I like the sound of that.” You reach up to cup her face, bringing her closer to you. “I think I do, too.” She whispers, kissing you with unbridled passion, which only turns you on further.
You part from her and grab her hand. “Well, you heard the man.” You breathe, taking Yelena’s fingers and inserting two into your mouth to the back of your throat once before pulling them out. “Continue.”
Yelena’s eyes darken, accompanied by a desperate sigh. You can’t help, but shiver when you watch her tongue dart out to wet her plump lips and keen when she bites it slowly.
“With pleasure.” She responds, making sure to remove your clothes this time for easy access.
Eventually you and Yelena made it to the dining room after you were both satisfied, you had indeed worked up an appetite. You found Natasha setting the table, Melina setting out various dishes in the center and Alexei cleaning up the kitchen.
“Oh, girls. Nice of you to join us.” Melina jested with a knowing smile. You immediately feel guilty and the embarrassment comes flooding back. Alexei mentioned cooking as a family was a Christmas tradition and you completely disregarded it to boink with your girlfriend just down the hall.
“We’re sorry Mrs. Romanov, I didn’t mean to disrespect your tradition. It was all my fault, I kept distracting Yelena.” You take the blame and ignore Yelena’s hilariously narrowed eyes.
"Sweetie, calm down, you didn't disrespect anything. Just don't let it happen tomorrow." She warns with a playful pointed look. "And I highly doubt you were the one doing the distracting." Melina sends a look to her daughter saying she knows exactly who the perpetrator was.
Natasha and Alexei have a laugh at her expense. Well, Natasha chuckled, Alexei guffawed loudly and clapped his hands once.
Yelena simply feigns innocence, training her narrowed eyes on her mother now and dropping her jaw dramatically.
Melina laughs slightly and smiles at you. "Also please call me Melina, you are a grown woman."
"Right, sorry." You withdraw, looking down at the floor. Yelena instinctively grabs your hand, caressing it with her thumb and you look at her with thanks in your eyes.
"Oh, stop apologizing dear and have a seat." Melina all-but orders, pulling your chair out herself. You do as told, Yelena follows to sit next to you. Natasha sits at the head and her parents sit across from you and Yelena.
You all begin to dig into the home cooked meal and you nearly moan at how delicious it tastes. "Mrs–Melina, this is amazing!" You mumble excitedly due to the full mouth.
"Aw, stop. You are just saying that." Melina flags you off lazily with a clearly flattered smile on her face.
"I mean it! I might just have to ditch my family every Christmas and come here so I can eat your cooking."
Yelena smirks around a full mouth herself, happy that her mother and girlfriend are getting along.
"Well, you are always welcome here, dear."
"Yes, of course!" Alexei agrees.
You all continue to pig out and discuss authentic Russian cuisine vs. American Russian. About which, you finally get to have an at length discussion with Natasha. She is not a woman of many words, you've noticed, but the two of you get on well enough.
When the conversation dips, you decide to bring up something you were genuinely curious about.
"So, Yelena tells me you guys work in sales, what's that like?" You direct your question at Alexei and Melina. It surprises you when they just start laughing, looking at each other as if it were an inside joke.
"Oh, no. We haven't done that in a while." Melina answers. Your brows furrow in confusion, oblivious to the death glare Yelena was giving her parents right next to you. Her eyes wide, her jaw clenched and her lips pursed, silently telling them to fix it.
Ever the aloof sister, Natasha's facial expression barely moves at all. It takes resolve not to crack a smile at her parents slip up and her sister's face, but she is dying to see this play out.
"Oh? What do guys do then?" You recover.
One look at Yelena and the couple scrambles for a suitable way out. You follow their gaze to your girlfriend’s face and suddenly she is smiling at you.
They don't mean to, but the couple speaks in unison while saying two completely different things.
"Finance." Says Alexei.
"We're retired." Says Melina.
Yelena's eyes go even wider and Natasha's eyebrow finally cocks upward, as does yours.
Melina thinks on her feet, hoping Alexei does not open his mouth again. "We retired from finance." She offers and Alexei immediately co-signs this. "Yes, yes." He whispers.
There is a silence that has the Romanov family on the edge of their seats. Did you buy that? Or was Yelena going to have to come clean a little earlier than expected?
A few moments later you nod and continue eating. "Okay." You concede, figuring that retirement was just a sore subject for them. You've heard that it can affect everyone differently.
The Romanovs exhale breaths they didn't know they were holding and Yelena attempts to steer the conversation as far away from careers as possible.
"So how are the chickens? Still slow to lay eggs?" She questions, shoving a fork full of potatoes into her mouth.
"Unfortunately, yes, they are getting old. Soon I will have to butcher them. Maybe I will make kotletki." She suggests excitedly.
And suddenly the piroshki on your plate doesn't look as appetizing as before.
"Oh, can I help?" Squeals Yelena.
"Butcher or cook?"
"Well, both. We could do it tomorrow so it's ready for Christmas dinner." The youngest Romanov offers.
Melina nods. "That is not a bad idea."
"So, it's decided." Yelena turns to you, lacing her fingers with yours quickly. "Y/N? Do you want to join?"
Your eyes widen and your brows jump up. The invitation was unexpected and you like feeling included, but you can't say that you have ever felt the urge to butcher an animal.
You mean to politely decline, but the only thing that comes out is: "Me? Oh, um, I mean, why not?" Even subconsciously, you don't want Yelena's family to dislike you for any reason or to upset anyone.
"Great! This is going to be so much fun!" You smile as Yelena beams and kisses you on the cheek.
After everyone has finished eating you and your girlfriend are immediately sentenced to clean up duty since you didn't help out before. You apologize again for your behavior and Yelena's family promises they are only teasing you.
"You do have to clean up though, that part is not a joke." Alexei spoke sincerely.
Everyone else clears out while you clear the table and Yelena gets started on the dishes.
"So?" She utters quietly, her eyes focused on the dutch oven she is scrubbing. She gives it to you to dry, finally looking you in the eye.
"What do you think?" She quotes your words from four months ago when she met your parents.
"I think everyone is lovely." You say honestly.
"Oh, come on. Tell the truth." She nods upwards, forcing you to speak your mind.
"I mean it! I really like them. Alexei is… a character," You both laugh at your choice of words. "But he's very funny and kind so he's golden in my book. Your mother," You think to yourself for a moment.
"She is very nice and one hell of a cook. Sometimes I feel like I can't get a read on her, though. Same for Natasha, now that I think about it." You look over your girlfriend of a year beside you and continue to voice your observations.
"It must run in the family. I felt the same about you when we met." You confess. Yelena's head jerks back in bewilderment.
"Really? You found me hard to read?"
You laugh softly at her confused face. "Yeah, I remember I couldn't tell if you liked me or not and so I took the plunge and asked you out. I'm glad I did." You bump her hip with yours lightheartedly.
"Me too." She nods slowly, bumping back. "That is funny to me."
"Why?"
"Because most times I feel like you are the only person who can read me." Yelena mutters down to the sink and suddenly you can't help yourself.
You throw the towel over your shoulder and bring her face to yours for a heated kiss. She promptly drops the dish she was holding back into the sink and fully faces you, putting her all into the kiss. A chill goes through you when you feel wetness seep into your shirt.
You break the kiss to see that it's only Yelena's hands pressing into your waist. "Babe," You whine.
She chuckles at your reaction. "I am sorry, I couldn't help it."
"Yeah, right. No you're not, you got me all wet." You inspect the handprints on your sheer blouse.
"Well, I won't apologize for that." She smirks proudly with a wink.
Your jaw drops slightly until you break into a smile. "You are so bad." You dip your fingers into the water and fling the droplets at her.
She flinches before doing the same to you. "Hey! You like me this way."
You duck and retaliate with a "True," flinging another fist full of water her way. Soon the two of you are damp from the knee up and laughing wildly. You allow Yelena to suddenly pull you to her body and into a kiss that leaves your toes and fingertips tingling.
You squeal as she lifts you onto the counter with no problem, her strength always a huge turn on for you. With her body wedged between your legs and your hands on her ass, she caresses your hips, waist and breasts. You groan as she continues to take your breath away with her skillful tongue in your mouth.
"God, you two ars like rabbits." An even voice from the kitchen entrance can be heard, causing the two of you to break apart. You clear your throat and immediately hop down from the counter.
You look up to see that it's Natasha, standing with har arms crossed and a teasing smirk on her lips. "If you weren't trying to fuck where we eat I would say it's kinda cute."
Yelena just laughs while you look around awkwardly, catching your breath. Natasha goes to the fridge and Yelena quickly places a chaste kiss on your cheek.
When you look at her, she smiles brightly, mouthing the words "I love you" and then continues washing the dishes so you mouth them back and resume helping her dry them without a word.
About twenty minutes later, the two of you retire to Yelena's room for the night. You settle under the covers and she wraps her arms around you from behind.
"Goodnight, Золотце. I love you." She whispers, placing a kiss on the back of your neck.
"I love you, too. Night." You kiss her hand before placing it back around your waist. Your eyes land on the face down picture frame on the nightstand and you try to shake the grim feeling that it gives you before shutting your eyes and attempting to sleep.
