I started a Lone Star rewatch by watching the pilot last night and it was so great. I had many thoughts, but the most horrible was what if TK had died when he overdosed...would Owen still have moved to Austin? I wonder if he would have because he would be so guilt-ridden over not being able to save his son and he would still be dealing with the cancer diagnosis. He might have seen it as a needed escape. He would have either done that or thrown himself even deeper into his work with the 252. Really, though, the thought of Owen in Austin without TK is almost too horrible to contemplate. Especially thinking of Owen running into Officer Reyes on the job, neither of them having any idea that they would have been family. And of course Carlos, lonely and so distant from his own family...😭

At first I was about to scream at you for this, but now I just want to weep because it’s not just about TK’s life and Carlos’ family situation.

Because Judd was pushed into getting help for his PTSD by Owen who understood all too well what not dealing with that would do to him. That gave him the tools to save himself and his relationship and get them to the stage where they not only have Charlie but can also be parents to Wyatt.

Because Paul wouldn’t have had a best friend ready to kick down his door when he had his heart attack - something that would have happened no matter what.

Because Marjan probably would have married her dentist fiancé and given the fact he hooked up with whats-her-name I don’t think that would have gone well for either of them long term. It was implied that her team in Florida lived off her status as FireFox - but she’s her own person in Texas. So she saved herself in a way.

Because Fire and Medical would have remained two different teams, different lunch tables as it were. So Nancy wouldn’t have had the support to deal with Tim’s death and it’s implied that the decision to dedicate the rig to honour Tim was a firefam one, not Tommy’s.

Because Mateo wouldn’t have been supported to learn what he needed to for the exam and would have failed out for the final time, being deported to a country he doesn’t know know.

Because what would Owen have done in regards to fighting his cancer if he’d had to bury his son?

And this is BEFORE we get to all the people the 126 have saved because they have been the cohesive family unit they became because Owen saved TK’s life and hauled him across state lines where he got to meet Carlos and give him the love and support he needed to confront and deal with the issues regarding his parents.

TK tried to take his own life and Owen saved him and it set off the dominoes which ended up saving so many people.

I am once again explaining that in order for walkable cities and public transit to work for disabled people, there also need to be more public bathrooms available in and around those areas. Not just places to sit down or rest. Bathrooms. We need accessible, clean bathrooms. With sharps bins. With multiple wheelchair accessible stalls. With an area to set down supplies needed to maintain one’s body. Even if it’s not being used to get rid of bodily waste, bathrooms are one of the few spaces disabled people have to maintain some sort of privacy when they’re in the middle of a flare up or they need to take medication or what have you. Designing a public space? Include bathrooms.

On average, two hundred people die in US National Parks each year.

This year, TK is going to be one of them.

He knew the second the bird popped out from beneath the underbrush to his left that he was a goner. His head might have said it’s only a bird, stupid, but his body went into fight or flight mode and jerked violently to the right. Before he could stop himself, his heel was on the edge of the narrow trail, and his momentum was throwing him off it and down the steep embankment.

He’s still alive when he stops sliding a good fifty or sixty feet down from the trail. His hands are cut up from catching on shrubs and rocks as he tried to slow himself down. He’s lucid—he knows the month, year, and who the president is. He remembers his old address back in Brooklyn, the name of the elementary school he attended, and the name of the restaurant on Spring Street that his mother took him to before she brought him to rehab the last time.
