I'm just saying, if you're going to worldbuild magic being a "raw, primal force, akin to and interweaving with nature itself" you gotta explain to me why animals don't use it
I know the normal answer is "they just aren't smart enough for it" but idk I've seen enough media where a character uses a spell in a moment of brain-off panic ilI feel like animals could probably stumble into a spell or two like, accidentally
Also how funny would it be to see a completely normal regular bear cast magic missile outta nowhere
Also there is no way ravens wouldn't figure out spells, tbh
They're smart fuckin birds, I believe in them
Either through observing or just figuring shit out ravens could 100% learn how to cast spells I'm sure of it
Dogs can also cast Magic Missile but every time they do the projectile is shaped like a bone or a stick and they chase after it
In Bioshifter by Thundamoo, magic works like this; everyone (including animals) can cast magic from domains that they have an individual natural affinity for. Which means that you can be out hunting small creatures for dinner and bag ten with no problem and when you corner the eleventh it turns around and burns half your face off with a fireball.
"public schooling in america is by and large not designed for ideal learning and has a lot of fucked up incentives and structures that encourage mistreatment of children" ✅
"it would be preferable to have no structure or standardization and just go by vibes" ❌
"education itself is the problem, knowledge is fake, math and writing are unimportant, and ignorance is wisdom" ❌❌❌
It's like the education version of "the police are corrupt and courts are inefficient, so we should bring back mob rule and it will go good because my mob has the correct morals".
Cool what if I cried.
“I love you… and I need to treat you like that’s true” fucking wrecked me. wtf. how dare my lovely comedy show bring forth such a vivid portrayal of grief and how it can tarnish a familial relationship??? how dare aunt freaky bring up the exact time of night their son was born and what the moon looked like. how dare hugi say they were mad that they couldn’t die together. i’m gonna jump off a cliff (like connor’s motorcycle father). fuck.
Something absolutely heart breaking about Hugi is that they clearly were orphaned years prior to the loss of Muni, and they likely survived on the love of Muni and Aunt Freaky, and then when Muni passed they not only lost their cousin/best friend but they also lost Aunt Freaky in her grief.
Hugi probably felt so incredibly alone in that time and the fact that it drove them to take off across the Gladlands and provide funeral services is, while beautiful for the people who benefitted from it, absolutely devastating. Hugi permanently attached themselves to their grief by making it their job and their purpose. They can never rest from grieving, because grieving is what they help others do.
deeply important to me and did make me sob
Standing in the reflected dazzling light of your own grief
brb tearing up about oscar saying this, brennan's face when he says it, and then oscar going on to talk about how being in a dome full of people coming together to create an environment of community is something that is needed. :'))

Finally finished some Gladlands fanart 💕💕
This season was so good and so special!!! Hell yeah to the post-apicalyptic bird of death who made me rethink how beautiful grief can be
Just saying, Hugi and Aunt Freaky hurt my heart this episode. Ngl, I love Aunt Freaky as a character.
She is a mother who lost her child. She is told that there is nothing wrong with his death and thinks if that’s true then she’s wrong for being unprepared to say goodbye. She carries her son’s skull with her so she can cradle him the way she did when he was a baby. She could not make herself attend the funeral. Why can’t she be nice anymore? She doesn’t know. She can’t acknowledge feelings, because she knows if she does she will absolutely shatter. She loves Hugi and desperately wants them to visit her. But she is mean to them when they do. She doesn’t know why. She is so sorry. This sucks. She misses her baby.
I haven’t cried like that at DND before.
Don’t get me wrong! I get why people have issues with her. Especially because she triggers a lot of people’s memories of people in their own lives who have mistreated them. And her pain does not mean what she said to Hugi was justified. But she is not a villain of this story. I hope we can see that more after this episode.
... she wipes a tear away from your cheek. Dimension 20: Gladlands Episode 5: A Hugi Minute
