last month my brother, a life long touchscreen hater, had to get his first smartphone because he couldn't pay his rent without one since his bank website no longer allows him to use his personal card reader (given by his bank) to make payments. most public transports outside the main city Require that you use the App to get tickets. the other day I went to a brunch place that wouldn't let me order food without going through the App.

I personally think smartphones have ups and downs, and I won't lie I really like having Small Games in my pocket at all times but the way smartphones have become a necessity/requirement to live in society is so fucking annoying and honestly fucked up.

I really do not think the average person understands how different the training resources and access are for a cis man playing sports vs everyone else. I wrote an article last month about how until 2020 they were given the Swedish women’s national hockey team expired protein bars for tournaments and only five practices leading up to it. More often than not people who aren’t cis able bodied men playing a sport do not have equipment properly fitted to them. Women’s teams do just straight up get less court or field or ice time. Coaches and trainers will refuse to train you on certain things because they just assume you cannot do something.

Idk. We have seen the athletic accomplishments of cis men come very far in the past century as they got more specialized training and the sports industry as a whole grew. Yet People still really think physical advancements and progression can only be done by cis men, and the the upper limit of what’s been recorded by everyone else is this permanent, unmovable thing. For a long time people thought it was impossible for a woman to do a triple axel until it happened.

#for real tho #i bet you can find inequalities in your own high school experiences #for example at my school boys soccer got to play on the football field #which means the boys got to walk from the locker room to their practice #and were trained on a fast surface #the girls soccer team had to practice at an elementary school across town #there was no way to walk there to be on time for practice #you had to bus or have your parents drive you #and the field was slow so we trained on slow grass which made us unprepared for schools with fast surfaces #note that boys and girls soccer didn’t even play the same season so we weren’t competing for space #boys got the typical soccer season of fall (directly competing with football for the field)#and girls played in the spring #aka when no one was using the field #but the grass needed rest or some shit #note that boys soccer never made it to playoffs but we did #and yet
