I’m playing Mass Effect for the first time! But I just read the codex on Noveria and laughed. I had always heard it was a frozen planet but i looked up the conversion and it’s barely below freezing!
Ah I hope you have fun!!!!
But yeah, so it's -1°C - 30.2°F
I see what you mean (it's like a monday morning in January in Brussels :D) but I wonder if other factors don't add into this, including atmospheric pressure. it's beyond my understanding
@crapeaucrapeau @dragonflight203 without spoiling anon, i'm tagging you because you guys might have something to say about planet descriptions and how accurate it is regarding our known lore.
It's more that -1°C is going to be the average surface temperature for the entire planet over a single year ! Average yearly temperatures would be higher close to the equator, and lower the further up from sea level and close to the poles. The parts of Noveria we see in ME1 and ME3 are high in a mountain range and presumably not on the equator (we know there's a resort at the equator instead, where presumably temperatures are above freezing since they grow their own drugs), which is why it's probably much colder than -1°C out there.
Another factor we know nothing about, for any planet (beside, uh, the real ones in our solar system), is seasonal variation (i.e. how much seasons are marked, the cyclical temperature variation), which is largely influenced by obliquity (i.e. the angle of the axis of the planet's rotation with the plane of the planet's orbit ; the highest seasonal variation occurs around 45°). Strong seasonal variation would entail winter in the bands between the poles and the tropics, which would drop temperatures even lower at that point.
The logic of Noveria's settlement (corporate enclaves in an extremely hostile environment so that whatever escapes is killed immediately) would suggest that Port Hanshan and Peak 15 were established on the coldest (and most consistently cold) parts of the planet, so for all we know what we see isn't the norm for the rest of the planet.
Thanks <3

He was right… Something went wrong here.
His name is John, John Shepard. He is known to be the survivor of akuze, the savior of the citadel, and the hero of the galaxy. He is a man of principle and a man of great dignity. People looked up to him as if he was some sort of god. But John, John is just an ordinary human being. It just so happens that he knows how to shoot a gun and use it with passion and integrity. John never met his true parents, but he had a family on board the Normandy. Those group of weird oddballs, will always have a place in his heart. Especially, the human biotic. Shepard is a lot of things but one thing’s for certain. He is no god but his love for the one he cares about, is beyond anything else in the milky way.

Day 24 - Aria
"Tell your boss I'm coming for him!" Aria is fun to draw. I used for this one high quality watercolour paper from "Hahnemühle", Indian ink, alcohol based markers, watercolour markers, ink pen and white Posca pen. I hope you like it!
