So I saw a photo of this hexagon tile floor . . .

The blurb said the shot was taken in Granada, Spain, by Agneta Fondén. No other info, so I have no idea how old, etc. There's a game (from 1988) that uses a similar pattern on one of its pieces, but this could predate it by at least a thousand years — or not. But the pattern intrigued me, so I made a texture map and used Blender's geometry nodes (no generative AI) to set up a hexagon grid with random rotations for the tiles:

That's all done with a single design:

You'd think this would have a name, right? (For its historical use as an architectural / decor tile — although I've found out more about its use in games, that's not what I'm looking for.) Like the Penroses do (and no, it's not one of those). But I've had no luck finding it, or any other info. Any (human only, please) help?

PSA to fan creators who don't have a lot of regular contact with children: They are almost always bigger than you think. A 1-year-old baby may already be walking. A toddler is likely already hip-high. A 10-year-old may already be taller than at least one of their parents. A 14/15 year old may already have reached their adult height.

My useful fact of the day:

If you're substituting dried herbs for fresh in a recipe the ratio is approximately 1 teaspoon of dried per tablespoon of fresh. It is not a 1 to 1 substitution.

You'll also need to add them earlier in the process so they can rehydrate.

Someone mentioned how they were having a hard time creating a world for their fantasy fiction geographically because they kept reinventing the island of Britain, which also happened to my good close enemy George R. R. Martin. I would like to suggest North Carolina. I know that sounds absolutely ridiculous but North Carolina has an awesome geographic setup for a fantasy kingdom, I think. Inhospitable barrier islands, constantly shifting shoals in the sound, swamps with alligators, venomous snakes and carnivorous plants, lots of very flat and somewhat sparsely populated farmland, foothills, mines, mountains full of mysterious phenomenon that were originally very difficult to navigate and people still get lost in today. It kind of rocks.

There are actually 36 carnivorous plant species native to North Carolina, roughly half of all carnivorous plant species in the United States are found in North Carolina! I added the carnivorous plant detail because that’s something I love about the state. We have so many fucking bugs that the plants keep evolving to eat them.

I love that giant man eating Venus flytraps are worldbuilding staples in untamed tropical fantasy settings but they’re actually native to a small region in the Carolinas.

Hans Christian Andersen's the Little Mermaid: Part II.

For Mermay this year, I picked up where I left off adapting the original Little Mermaid fairytale last year. The world below the water is painted like black & white shadow puppets, while the world above the water is painted like stained glass. The shadow puppets call back to old fairytale storytelling traditions and the work of Lotte Reiniger, while the stained glass imagery reflects how the original story associates the world on land with churches and holiness and the question of who gets to have a "human soul."

Thank you all for following me this month again, including people who were here for last year too!!! I'm so glad other people enjoy this little project, and I hope to see you guys again next year!! <3333

I used to have a copy of this, and sometimes think about getting another one. The projects are very 1970s. I particularly remember the wall storage system that has each cubby covered with a white upholstered stuffed panel that attaches with hook and loop tape (the book compares it to marshmallows), and there's a drafting table that does really interesting things with the edges of plywood.
