The Valar as Evangelion’s Angels

A while ago I suddenly have a mighty urge to see the Valar in the design of the Angels from Neon Genesis Evangelion (because they are my ultimate eldrich abominations). Since I know that ain’t happening, I decide to map the Valar to Angels’ design instead.

I’m surprised by how well this works out (not all of them, obviously).

Manwe – Arael

Ulmo – Gaghiel

Aule – Sandalphon (It incubates in a volcano, so there.)

Orome – Shamshel

Namo – Sahaquiel

Irmo – Leliel (it looks like a ball but it’s a manipulator of physical dimensions, so there.)

Tulkas – Zeruel

Varda – Ireul (essentially a colony of glowing, rapidly evolving micro-organism.)

Yavanna – Sachiel (because Ents?)

Nienna – Matarael

Este – Bardiel (the fungus, not the rest of it.)

Vana – Armisael

Nessa – Israfel (appears in an episode called “Both of You Dance Like You Wanna Win,” which should explain it – Israfel is also a great synchronized dancer.)

Melkor – Ramiel (My favourite angel in NGE, tbh. The first time I saw the positron beam felt like a revelation. And yes, I know this is a gif from the Rebuild not the NGE series, but hey, Ramiel is cool which ever version it is.)
