I have to post this one, another one of my favourites.

I was very excited when Totk came out and I enjoyed the game, just not quite up there with some previous titles. But I am so proud of this design, I had started it when the trailer showing Zelda first released! I finished it after getting some in game screenshots!

btw I've found these stretches from the WAK blog very helpful when knitting a lot:

Plus make sure to take breaks regularly - and stop if anything starts to hurt!

especially with gift knitting I know it can be tempting to push through it for a deadline, but it's really not worth causing long term injury. (And anyone knit-worthy should be understanding of that, imho.) Stay well :)

another update for my tapestry crochet stitch testing!!

okay so the verdict is in and i LOVE the funky little "sc2tog in one stitch" for pixel art tapestry crochet!!! i was experimenting with micro crochet thread and it was coming out nice too but i also used the mini swatch for testing different border stitches and it looked very funky so here instead is a nicer piece i'm working on!!

i'm SO pleased with the progress 🥹

for this piece i'm using the "sc2tog in one stitch" across the entire row, no regular sc at all, and i worked into a starting chain of stitch count +2 (sk first 2 chains) instead of using a foundation sc row. i hate working into chains, but this combination has mostly eliminated how wonky and misaligned the borders of my work were in the skeleton piece where i started and finished each row with a sc!

i made him following a pixel graph i found on pinterest and i used a "sc2tog in one stitch" stitch for most of the tapestry!! i started the piece with a foundation sc row (i hate working into chains), i started and ended each row with a regular sc, and the final row along the top was also made with regular sc.

in case the link doesn't work for any reason, the stitch is constructed as follows:

insert hook into stitch, YO and pull up a loop

YU and pull through 1 loop (2 loops left on hook)

insert hook into SAME stitch, YO and pull up a loop (3 loops left on hook)

YU and pull through all 3 loops on hook

it doesn't make for a pixel-perfect stitch but it DOES make for a pixel precise stitch, so it's much better for pixel grid tapestry crochet than regular sc or hdc colorwork!!!

now i need to test it out with crochet thread and if it works as well as it did with weight 4 yarn 👀

so the stitch i'm testing out today is an interesting stitch that is basically a "sct2tog" in ONE stitch, and comes out constructed kinda like a chain plus a hdc (THIS IS THE POST I LEARNED IT FROM OP ILY SOOOOOOO MUCH https://www.reddit.com/r/crochet/s/PyNoBb59AL)

and i've been experimenting with different ways to see if i can connect the corners of the stitches on the left hand side where they don't line up perfectly, and while it IS possible (you do a finicky color change in the first "YU pull through one loop" where you insert into stitch, YO and pull up a loop with old color, then YU and pull through one loop with new color), i don't personally find it worth it because it's a lot of extra work for not too much payout. also, it would be a bit of a nightmare with extra ends if you're working with more than 2 colors. you can see the difference around the feet (no extra color change) and the knees (extra color change), but here's some comparison with scribbles to help you see what i mean:

now it might be easier to see where i DID test out the extra color change around the knees!!

also i am crocheting this all facing the same direction (cut and tie at the ends like mosaic overlay tapestry crochet) and i'm starting and ending each row with a regular yo/yo single crochet (also like mosaic overlay tapestry crochet!) :)

anyway i'm gonna keep messing around, i'll report back with more findings as i get through it!!!

another foray into tunisian tapestry crochet!! and this time i actually finished it instead of getting distracted with other projects 😂 ultimately i think for now i'm going to try and get better at tunisian crochet and put the half-double waistcoat stitch off to the side because it's becoming more frustrating than fun, and tunisian has a LOT more tutorials and tips and tricks i can learn first!

proof of concept!!! he's far from perfect because i was testing out different types of color changes in the half-double waistcoat stitch, but this is my first completed attempt at using the half-double waistcoat stitch for a tapestry :)

the border is wonky and he is imperfect but he is a perfect example for me to look back at to see what color changes did and did not work!!

so far it seems like doing half-color-changes to prep the upper loops of the stitch for the next row's color is the winner for neatness (around his head, and his eye), second place is first yarn-over in a new color (around the lower part of his beak and upper back), and the last place is the standard "finish off previous stitch with final yarn-over in new color" (around his feet).

unfortunately i don't know who drew the original 25x25 pixel grid i based him off of because i found it on pinterest with no credit 🥲

next steps are to test out another small pattern with acrylic yarn and a larger hook while still utilizing the half-color changes and see if that changes anything!

i have been too tired and low energy to post any photos of the stuff i've been crocheting BUT i've definitely still been crocheting a lot!!!!!! i've made koroks and mushrooms and pokemon and i'm currently working on a MASSIVE super-secret project that i can't post about until february, but when it's done i'm gonna brag about it for actually a thousand years 😂
