But society has grouped them under one umbrella, or forced them to group themselves for self-protection, and thus you have conversations like the one above.

Now, Earth has a LOT of different environments with a lot of different colors, and Cybertron and it’s moons also have diverse environments (although rather less so than Earth) but in general- Cybertron has a very…distinct color scheme.
In that the whole surface of the planet pretty much looks like this.
Cybertron is an over-saturated orange-blue theory movie poster.
Which goes a long way towards explaining why cybertronians tend to have such impressive coloration, and gives us a base to start with.
Orange and Blue are considered to be “Neutral” colors, even when strikingly bright- as a matter of fact a particularly vivid range of Orange is even referred to as “Cybertron Orange” because large portions of the surface take on a similarly vivid hue. After orange and blue, the next largest “natural” colors of the surface tend to be metallics such as silver, gold, or pearlescent white, as well as matte white, gray, and black, which are also generally seen as neutral hues. As such, Orange and Blue are among the most common colors for Cybertronians, both natural and as a result of alteration.
One of the next most common colorations is Red for reasons I haven’t come up with yet, but they do find Red to be a very eye-catching color. Red optics and biolights are the second most common (after blue) shade and red is generally associated with speed, as well as status- red was a favored color for warriors and the upper class.
Green isn’t a common color on Cybertron, both in terms of environment and cybertronian, and as such it stands out to them (they get used to it on Earth but some cybertronians find earthly foliage to be overwhelmingly green). Bright shades of green commonly indicate “caution” or “danger” for cybertronians, and green clouds heralded acid rainfall and proximity to the acid wastes. Bright Green and Yellow-Green are more common among Decepticons who use it to indicate their working-class past, but higher-classed mechs often utilized a very rich, darker copper-green.
Blue-Green hues are considered separate from Green and Blue coloration, and can be found in certain areas of Cybertron as well as upon Cybertron’s moons- these are generally seen as neutral and even attractive, particularly among racers, and are associated with traits such as speed and agility.
Yellow is a relatively uncommon color among Cybertronians, but is similarly used to indicate “Caution” or “danger” in most situations- True yellow and greenish-Yellow hues are also considered separate from a more acceptable golden-yellow or orange-yellow, like Bumblebee. PALE YELLOW specifically is associated with poor health and injury, as a bot’s internal cooling system utilizes ammonia- which can result in them bleeding a clear-to-pale-yellow fluid or coughing it up when internally damaged and unable to self-repair. (Yellow and Pink together are particularly ominous) Yellow is also associated with the cold, as in the very rare places where it “snows” on cybertron the snow is composed of yellow sulfur and ammonia flakes.
True metallic hues (silver, gold, copper, etc etc) are considered to be neutral in coloration, but have a loose heirarchy regarding appearance. Gold is considered to be more striking and obvious (as well as being something of a delicacy/treat for cybertronians) but also became a symbol of the Loyalists for the Senate and the Elite Guard. Some other groups reclaimed it as their own, but more than simple accents of it can still carry negative connotations, particularly among Decepticons. Silver and chrome are true neutral appearances, as cybertronians are initially a matte white and chrome upon creation, before their coloring nanites begin to operate.
(As a sidenote- matte gray is neutral but also can be ominous and unsettling, associated with death as the “shock” of deactivation results in a mass die-off of coloration nanites, causing them to self-destruct, turning the deceased an ashy gray over the layer of coloration. The “graying” of a cadaver can be almost instantanious in certain situations, but otherwise may take several hours to complete.)
Purple is the color of low-charge energon and energon crystals, and processed energon tends to have a rich purple color- especially if spilled and left to dry for a time, it will “cool” from pink to purple. As a result, purple was traditionally a color associated with energon and common class, as well as certain military groups. Purple has also become the color of the Decepticons, dominating their coloration and their aesthetics, embraced as a symbol of spilled and dried energon, left to cool, as well as a symbol of archaic military function (which is where Megatron’s gray-purple coloration heralds from)
Being Pink on Cybertron is a risk. Pink is the color of charged energon, of one’s lifeblood, it’s the color of edible crystals and the clouds and sunsets, it’s brilliant and the cybertronian optic is automatically drawn towards shades of pink. Pink can be associated with medics, nurturers, and sustinence. But it can also be a threatening color (think- Pink is similar to Bright Red for humans) in that freshly-spilled energon is pink, pink biolights are a sign of greivous internal damage (energon filling biolights and tinting them), pink is a color of getting attention and can symbolize greed and seduction.
Black and White are both considered neutral colors and “base” colors, but larger portions of white or other pale hues was considered to be a sign of higher-class, since a white finish is harder to maintain without getting dirty, as well as being the primary color (when paired with Red and/or Pink) of medics and medical assistance. I’m debating on giving Starscream white as a secondary color, though, so he’d be Red, Black, and White. Something to think about. Black is also associated with law enforcement, and enforcers were typically painted a matte black or even a sort of “vantablack” to make them stand out against other colorations. Black is often used as an accent to make other colors stand out more, as is.
