You know, an interesting tumblr transformation that's happened gradually, and which I've seen no one talk about: ask-culture has essentially dropped off to nothing.

By which I mean, asks used to be WAY more of the tumblr economy. They used to be more common to send, and receive, and see. They were integral to the collaborative, forum-like behavior of old tumblr communities, not even to speak on the HUGE number of ask-blogs that used to exist to only be interacted with in ask-form.

I'm not saying this in a vying-for-attention way but instead in an observational way: I used to get way way more asks in like 2015, even with a fraction of my follower count. I wonder if it's due to the homogenization of social media sites? There's a lot more of this divide between "content creator" and "consumer" instead of just a bunch of peer blogs who would talk to each other. "Asks" aren't really a thing on twitter, are they? And as I understand it, the closest thing to an "ask" on instagram or tiktok would be a creator screenshotting some comment and responding to it in a new reel or video or whatever those content mediums are. Are asks just too tumblr-specific? Is that aspect of the site culture dying out as more and more people converge to using all their social media sites in the same way?

it's probably from assholes making asks a minefield of trolling/harassment for years with no real blocking ability, which turned people off from allowing asks on their blogs so as a whole the site moved away from it

but now that we do have better blocking, we should try to revive it.

So...I have no good excuse for this bullshit. This is just some dumbass idea that I've been trying to draw for, like, a month now. It was funnier in my head, I guess.

Anyway, after figuring out how I like to draw my version of Cain, I started thinking more about the design elements I chose. Specifically the whole shepherd and literal black sheep angle. Something-something - Abel being Cain's shepherd to redemption - something something. I'm sure this is just stupid.

This whole thing started with the colored drawing (which I also...kinda redid, like, 3 times and I'm still not entirely sure I like it...) and then I had the dumber idea of Abel realizing he can get whatever he wants from Cain by guilt-tripping him. Again, it's funnier in my head. Like, 'Did you just forget you killed me? Pretty sure that means you owe me.' Also, I don't like bratty characters for the most part, but Abel being a brat towards Cain specifically brings me joy. To literally everyone else, he can be a sweet, empty-headed angel baby, but with his brother, I need him to be a little menace. It's just funny to me. I dunno.

In other news, I could also say this is kind've a birthday gift to myself (belated, of course. My birthday was March 12th). I've been having a rough go of it lately and this idea made me smile.

Looks like fans in North America are finally able to get in on the 30th Anniversary festivities!Marvelous USA is currently holding a fanworks contest with a submission period ending August 9th, 2026 at 12PM PT. Any sort of image-based fanwork is applicable, including cosplay, sculptures, artwork, whatever, so long as it can be sent in with an image file.

From now until August 9th, creative fans can submit up to 3 creations in 3 different categories:

Life on the Farm – This category will highlight your cozy everyday life on the farm!

Love on the Farm – This category will feature at least one marriage candidate that has captured your heart!

Friends of the Farm – This category will show off one or more of the many animal friends you can adopt and raise!

Prizes are listed as:

Three (3) grand prize winners will receive a STORY OF SEASONS branded $100 gift card, a custom plaque, and a STORY OF SEASONS bubble cow plush. Hello everyone, I am an oldie who was part of this fandom group for years until too much negativity poured into it. I let go for a while and decided to come back, but seeing that the TRR fanbase has quietened down breaks my heart.

Not only was TRR fun, wild, and romantic, but it was so much fun because of the wonderful fanbase that supported it.

Some of you might roll your eyes or laugh when I say this, but coming onto Tumblr and engaging with you all was my therapy.

So..... I would like to get the ball rolling by starting a Royal Romance Writing Reboot.

Back when I first got Story of Seasons: a wonderful life, I was SO inspired to draw a younger version of Nina and Gary 'cuz oh my gosh they're such a cute couple.
