This is HUGE.

1. The court holds Google responsible for statements made by its AI, considering them Google's statements (search engines have limited liability for results in their engine as they're the words of other sites/companies/people), meaning when their AI lies/hallucinates they're liable for the defamation/harm resulting from those statements.

2. Google's defense that customers are generally aware of the lack of reliability and are responsible for fact checking was dismissed. As the court pointed out, that would "significantly diminish" AI Search's stated purpose and it can't be distinguished from Google's business practices/statements as a search tool.

3. Studies have found about 91% of Google's everyday AI responses are accurate, leaving millions of searches per HOUR with potential liability for falsehoods. 56% of correct responses weren't supported by the sources the AI listed. Both of which mean Google is now liable for a LOT more AI "errors."

4. Google was held liable for 80% of court costs in this case and this precedent is expected to reverberate around the world. This is a massive shift from the 3rd-party search provider role Google has previously played and it comes right as they've tied ALL searches to their AI search.

TL;DR Google reeeeeally stepped in it this time.

low-key obsessed with the idea that murderbot leaves like. the opposite of a path of destruction when travelling through ports.

it arrives, tries to download new media, and gets frustrated because no one gives a shit about keeping the feeds connected and updated. so it installs patches, unfucks the software, orders new hardware, and sends bots and people alike to repair the hardware. just so it can download the new season of sanctuary moon in peace.

flickering screens and broken announcements? it takes murderbot about ten seconds to find and fix the cause. while taking over the security system, as one does, it automatically simplifies parts of the code, updates others, rewrites some lines completely because what the fuck.

it was made to solve problems, deadly and otherwise, regardless of what they are. constantly adopting humans is one consequence of that, improving its environment another—just another reflex, the mental equivalent of muscle memory.

I'm still just thinking about Iron Lung and I have the OST run in the BG a bunch while I write. And when the track "Hull Breach" (the credits song) came up again I had the entire credit sequence visualized in my head.

And it reminded me again how Mark decided to credit himself as Markiplier in the main credits. Both in the opening and especially in the closing ones.

But like I think it is so beautiful that he chose to do that. He could have simply put his regular name as Mark Fischbach but no. He went with Markiplier. His Youtuber name.

Him, Markiplier, made that movie!

And that's god damn fucking right he did! A Youtuber! Him choosing the name Markiplier is both a reminder to his community that it is him who made it and also as a reminder to the entire movie industry that YES! HE A YOUTUBER WAS ABLE TO MAKE A MOVIE!!! Which played world wide!! Was the Number 1 movie in america!!! And made over $50M back!! On a $3M budget no less!!

It is a reminder to the entire film industry and Hollywood that people like him, a "simple youtuber" can accomplish something this great if they try. If they work hard enough and if they want to achieve something!!

And I love that!!

It makes me want to cry a little now that I think about it.
