On-the-Job Training (OJT) is a taste of the so-called ‘real world’ while being a student. It is a glimpse of what lies ahead after we graduate. It is the set of training and applying what we learn in school and of course, gaining experience.
Nothing beats experience. Nothing compares to the knowledge that it can give – It is a perfect learning tool and the best teacher we could ever have. It is the chance to grow, to explore, to discover, and to gain experiences which will serve as our stepping stone after we graduate.
My stepping stone is Post Ad Ventures, Inc. It is an advertising/events company located in Sta. Mesa, Manila. I’ve heard this company from my friend, because of her sister’s recommendation.
When I emailed Post Ad Ventures, Inc., I never expected that they will hire me that fast, that’s why I think Post Ad and I are meant to be. Besides, I also want to experience production in events, so I decided to pursue it. It took almost 8 days going back to that company before I formally start my duty.
I started my internship last April 18, 2017 and I did not regret pursuing it. I believe being here is not a coincidence and not a product of luck. I know it has a purpose why I’m here. I’m not lucky but it is His will.
I’ve learned a lot from Post Ad. It taught me a lot of things especially in productions. It gives me a better education and it brings excitement and adventure towards learning due to a lot of pressure yet challenging events. These events are way harder than what I have imagined. From pre-production, I learned how to find, contact and talk to different suppliers. Also, my basic skills and knowledge in software such as Adobe Photoshop was improved. I was asked to design our IDs for our event with the help of our Creatives Department.
The Production Department executes the plans of the Creatives through careful organization and construction of materials and services. Not all the task that was assigned to us was easy. Even though we’re just OJTs, we also need to help each other through man power. We were asked to cut IDs and invitations, to print documents, to buy supplies and any other needs for events. Yes, it is hard. But if you are passionate and if you love what you’re doing, it is all worth it.
In Post Ad Ventures, Inc., I learned how to love my job and the company itself. Since it is also a Christian company, I learned to appreciate every small piece of tasks and works assigned to me because I know and I am always reminded that whatever I do, I do it for the glory of God. Also, it helped me to develop my character not only as a student or as a worker, but also as a volunteer and as a person.
