Been talking with a friend about this but it really sucks that all of the girl characters in Metalocalypse aren’t written the same as the men. If that makes sense. Like they can’t just be something they have to be a sexy, girl version of whatever role they take on. Abigail isn’t allowed to be unhinged or a little cuckoo like Knubbler, she’s the professional sexy office siren and plot device for Nathan and Pickles friendship and taking on a motherly, comforting role to Toki while she was kidnapped mind you. Lavona isn’t allowed to be a revengencer in the same way MMA, Edgar and Magnus are. Since she’s the only main girl she’s in a spandex leotard and she wants to have sex with Nathan, like that’s her main goal. And if a girl breaks away from this like sexy, sultry role she’s made fun of. Every female character with a speaking role outside of their parents is usually just a plot device for a male. I know somebody is gonna jump up my ass talking about “it’s not that deep” but like..dude it’s also not that shallow. So chew on that I guess.
But to be entirely fair this more or less reflects the metal scene itself and how male-centric the genre is as a whole.
Sure there are plenty of amazing and talented female metal musicians out there, but how many of them get genuinely big and well known without having some kind of sexual/seductive shtick to attract attention? Not many.
First and foremost, Metalocalypse aims to satire the flaws of the metal scene. The people, the music, the culture, or in this case: the social dynamics.
However, that being said, I agree that there should be better female characters and think there's certainly a perfect middle ground between those two things. Archer did it really well
