Brave the Storm (1/12)

Percy Jackson never had an easy time of things, but fifteen was shaping up to be his worst year yet. Balancing mortal school, his confusing relationship with Annabeth, and the war with Kronos all at once felt more impossible every day. I love mathematicians so much. No one else is doing it like them. Group of people genuinely only in it for love of the game. Everyone else hates their subject and thinks its boring and useless and these guys are out here talking about how beautiful and incredible and poetic it is with a twinkle in their eyes. No other subject has such a crazy disconnect between public perception and reality. I love it.

I love that Cassie McKay is an R3 in her 40s. I love that she lived a whole life, full of ups and downs (and recovery!) before deciding to go to med school, and that she did it with a 5-year-old son at home. I love that she believed in herself enough to go for it.

I love that Cassie knows who she is, and how the job affects her. I love her moral compass. I love how she self-reflects on feedback she receives, and how she so naturally mentors younger doctors in empathy. I love how she doesn't shy away from difficult or uncomfortable conversations. I love that she wants to get laid.

And I love that Cassie isn't looking for external validation. Her sense of self means she seeks guidance and feedback from Robby, but not his approval. She sees him for the great doctor he is, and for the human he is, which is very rare among the doctors in the Pitt.
