you all are so much stronger than me because i am willing to throw HANDS to defend the barbie movie. the second a MAN has the audacity so say "i didn't relate to it" (of course you didn't, it's not for you) or "it's not that deep" (yes it is, learn media literacy) or "it's man hating propaganda" (no it isn't, it's anti patriarchy which suppresses both men and women) or "i'm not watching it because it's too pink and girly" (seriously just. grow up already) it's on SIGHT.

I don't know how else to explain the experience of seeing Barbie 2023 in theaters, wearing pink, except that it felt the way the summer of Pokémon Go felt. We were UNITED. We were JOYFUL. We were HYPING EACH OTHER UP. We were ALL PLAYING THE SAME GAME.

Absolutely living for the immersion breaking flips that Grogu does, everything is reasonably seamless, the costumes and sets are good enough to suspend your disbelief, and then the little puppet does a backflip that doesn’t just break immersion, it takes it out back behind the Denny’s in the parking lot and just fucking murders it, just cuts the head right off any suspension of disbelief and leaves it on a pike right there in the middle of downtown, there is zero ability to pretend that was a real living creature and not a tiny puppet on a string, and I am THRIVING with how great it is, I came to Star Wars for ridiculous bullshit and that puppet DELIVERED, I am fed, my crops are watered, my skin is clear, I am laughing my ass off, I’m in love.

Was this episode of The Mandalorian good?  Absolutely not.  Was it over-relying on shout-outs to other Star Wars things and guest cameos?  Of course it was.  Was the the dialogue flat and the plot super thin and an absolutely baffling choice to spend an entire episode on this?  Also yes.  But I don’t care!  I don’t care anymore because I am here for the serotonin boost that JACK BLACK and LIZZO playing an absolutely batshit but utterly sweet couple just disgustingly in love with each other has given me.  JACK BLACK AND LIZZO.  I WOULD ABSOLUTELY WATCH THAT ROMCOM OF THEM FALLING IN LOVE.

I do think there is a difference between how men and women are socialized to express emotions but I cannot STAND when men twist that to imply that little girls are never told to “stop crying” or women just have a peachy easy time expressing emotion while men are forced to suffer in silence. Like literally women and girls are CONstantly told that we’re hysterical and overdramatic and irrational for expressing emotion and we explicitly get taken less seriously than men do when we express emotion. Be for real.
