My woke take, as someone who has worked in both a public library and a school library, is that we desperately need both more books that are at a higher reading level but a less mature subject matter, and more books that are at a lower reading level but a more mature subject matter, because 8 year olds who are advanced readers are still 8 year olds and don't want to read about graphic violence and torture, and teens and adults who have learning difficulties or who are just later readers for whatever reason are still teens and adults and don't want to read about Billy the Bunny going to school or whatever the hell.

so I've been thinking about this sentence and I don't think we truly know what Tolkien intended here.

My first instinct would be the Honda Odyssey, probably an early/mid-2000s model. Since Fëanor has 7 sons, the 8-seat Odyssey gives exactly enough room for all of them. You could argue that "his following" implies more people but I think "following" is being used abstractly here and the rest are in additional vehicles, or else possibly they're using the cargo area efficiently (still kind of a stretch tho imo).

HOWEVER there's a strong case for the Toyota Sienna: similar capacity, reliable, available with AWD (whereas the Odyssey is FWD) which becomes relevant almost immediately. The counterargument is more about Fëanor's psychology than anything else; ie, would Fëanor who "sought the counsel of none that dwelt in Aman, great or small, save only and for a little while of Nerdanel the wise" actually purchase the sensible minivan recommended by Consumer Reports?

Finally I don't think we can dismiss the Chrysler Town & Country. With its luxury trim (leather available), 3-zone climate control depending on model/year, I can imagine the Oath of Fëanor being sworn next to it despite the inevitable electrical faults, moreso than, say, a Kia Sedona.

So I think currently my ranking is Toyota Sienna > Odyssey > Town & Country but I'm curious if anyone has looked into this before hand and there are other supporting clues in the text somewhere I'm missing?
