Analyzing the politics of a work that's meant to be apolitical is actually a really interesting exercise because it asks you to critically examine what the creator considers to be "political" in the first place. Which ideas are just How Things Are, and which ones are Political, and how is that influenced by the creator's beliefs?
Angrily lashing out at the suggestion that it's possible to do basic media analysis was foundational to the ragebait ecosystem of the 2010s, from which we got basically the entire culture of modern far right politics, btw.
I went outside and got an education, that's where I learned that you can obtain knowledge and insight through analytical methods, then noticed that some people who sit on the internet yelling at strangers get really mad about that constantly.
This was genuinely what it was like growing up in New Agey circles btw, my mum's friends would come round like "So I went out to the woods this weekend and fasted and meditated and I had a vision of the Sacred Stag and all my guardian angels and I asked them how to find love and they said that I need to focus on my own healing first and stop repeating cycles of the past" and then the very next week it'd be like "So I'm back with James again" girl..... the Sacred Stag could not have been more clear....
so i don't remember if ive ever shared this but an incredible consequence of reading Sherlock Holmes as a kid was me imagining them as even gayer than they are in canon.
so here's the deal, when i'd asked my mother what a "dressing gown" was, she explained to me that it was basically a bathrobe. so, my knowledge of bathrobes being 'clothes you put on your naked body after a shower as a comfortable alternative to a towel', my mind of course conjured Holmes and Watson walking around their flat in nothing other than a dressing gown on. like this:
and kid me went "huh, that's awfully intimate. theyre definitely SOME sort of great friends." I am honestly pretty ashamed to admit i only realized they actually wore normal clothes under their dressing gowns when i started searching for Sherlock Holmes fanart and saw people drawing it. oops.

Dr Watson considered rubbing at his hair some more, but decided against it: it was so warm that his best bet would be to attempt to comb it before they dried.
"I commend your choice of a refreshing bath, my dear Watson. — Yawned Holmes, stretching his arms over his head right after tying his towel to his hips. — It really wouldn't do to start sweating again from the heat of the very thing we are using to wash off the grime."
Watson chuckled. "I would beg you to remember that I had also-"
"- adviced against chasing those men in the early afternoon sun, yes I know." Laughed the detective in reply.
"Oh careful with your tone, old man! — Laughed the doctor, giving his hair a quick pass of the comb and then staring at his clothes. — It really feels too hot to wear day-clothes right now."
"Then don't! — Replied the detective. — We have nowhere to be and nothing to do for the rest of today." He explained with a grin.
Dr Watson smiled in reply. "It would hardly be proper, would it?" He asked.
Holmes smiled a dangerous smile, approaching to circle his husband's waist and kiss his lips. "Because you are so very against any improper behaviour, doctor?" He smirked.
Dr Watson groaned softly, breaking the hug. "It is far too hot for any of that, busy bee. — He excused himself. — Come, let me see that hand."
The detective giggled, combing his still wet hair with his fingers and then letting his towel fall. "Just let me get my dressing gown." He smiled, completely comfortable in that mise.
"You absolute imp!" Accused the doctor with a grin, letting his eyes roam his husband's figure..
"As if you didn't love me for that as well! — Countered Holms with a laugh. — It is very comfortable, that's my only defence."
"You are a tease." Smiled the doctor, accepting his own dressing gown from his husband's hand and thanking him with a quick kiss.
"Just because I want to spare Mrs Hudson the sight of me in my birthday suit?" Laughed Holmes, still teasing, then doubling over when the doctor blushed and shushed him.
Watson's check on his partner's always martyred hands was pretty quick and only lead to minor patching ups before Holmes declared that his doctor had fussed enough for the day and stretched to reach his cigarette case.
"Some tobacco is the best medicine after such a delightful case, don't you think my dear doctor?" He smiled after lighting both their cigarettes and having snuffed the match.
Watson chuckled. "As much as we complain about the heat we still crave hot smoke in our lungs!" He pointed out as his husband let himself fall on the settee with a laugh.
"Nothing more relaxing than it." He smiled, not caring for the way the dressing gown fell open to show a bit more of his chest.
"Indeed." Smiled the doctor in reply, ruffling his husband' hair but not joining him.
"You coming?" Enquired the detective, sending a very wide-eyed look behind his shoulders.
Watson chuckled. "Let me first make a few notes on the case, it's still too hot to cuddle close my little bee." He smiled, ruffling his husband's hair once more.
