I will never not be amused by the shot of TIE fighters arriving on Takodana with the menacing orange sun behind them. It has no place in the film's continuity. In every other shot from our time on Takodana, the sun is not that low in the sky and it's not orange at all. Maz's castle seems to be experiencing an afternoon of very standard partly- to mostly-cloudy weather. But we still got the TIEs silhouetted against that terrifying sun, just because it was too good a shot to not use, and I appreciate the mild whimsy of that choice.

I want Disney to grow a spine and make The Hunt for Ben Solo, or *anything* that would give him a better ending. But at the same time, I fear what would happen if they tried. Because I don't think Disney would be willing to commit to creating a story with enough nuance to balance his redemption with any meaningful handling of the atrocities he committed as Kylo Ren, and glossing over all of that would honestly be a disservice to his character. And if they did create a story that addressed all of that, I fear the arguments that would ensue across the fandom over the idea of letting him be a complicated character with a list of crimes to atone for instead of just a wholesome bean.

something i adore about hadestown is that it still meant something, y'know what i mean? like okay, no orpheus's song did not convince hades to give up his empire. hades' love for persephone isn't enough to deconstruct the machine he's built and has convinced himself that he needs in order to protect what he has. but he let them go. he saw the love eurydice and orpheus had for one another and it convinced him to let them try. orpheus may have turned around but they still walked, they almost made it. doubt set it but they were right there. that's further than anyone else can say. nobody else had made it that far. who's to say someone else can't make it a few steps further? persephone is able to leave the underworld and go home again when she needs to. spring has come again, if we're lucky autumn just might too. will this change be permanent? we don't know. but it's something. it doesn't knock down the wall but it's one brick out of it. and that means something. it wasn't all for nothing. it's a crack in the wall. there's a reason we keep singing this old song.

It was a huge milestone of scientific and technological advancement. (Plus, at the time, politically significant). Humanity went to space! We set foot on a celestial body that was not earth for the first time in human history! That’s a big deal! I’ve never thought about it before but now that I have, it’s ridiculous to me that that’s not part of our everyday lives and the public consciousness anymore. Why don’t we have a public holiday and a family barbecue about it. Why have I never seen the original broadcast of the moon landing? It should be all over the news every year!

No, I don't want a deadbolt I can unlock with an app. No, I don't want an oven I can turn on with an app. No, I don't want a washer/dryer I can control with an app. No, I don't want lights I can control with an app. I don't want blinds I can control with an app. I don't want to need an app to do everything.

I don't want a printing subscription, or a typing subscription. Hell, I'll go find an old typewriter before I buy into that sell. I'll even learn to make ink and paper.

I don't want to "subscribe and save" to something. I don't want everything to automatically renew. I most certainly do not want to give an AI assistant access to ANYTHING of mine (including my thoughts, questions, or ideas), but especially not to my bank account.

I don't want glasses that tell me what things are, I'd rather ask someone who knows. I don't want a robot to summarize the key points of my group chat, I want to talk to my friends and family for myself.

I want picnics in the park, phones put away in bags and not thought about unless they're actually needed. I want water fights in summer, not water shortages to feed the machine. I want a colorful house, not a smart one. I want care, not convenience.

If one day Microsoft locks me out of my laptop because I refuse to pay for a subscription, I'll go to the library and check out a few books to figure out how to reprogram it. I'll learn fucking Linux, if I have to. Hell, I'm considering learning it now, with the way the world's going.

If one day the world is so online, that I'm strange for being disconnected, then strange I will happily be.
