“because he’s kieran’s best pal, right?” she smiled slightly, the whole situation causing her to become a bit uncomfortable. “he’s got the whole town against me but, i dunno. i don’t think declan ever liked me. which, y’know, is fine. can’t win over everyone.” rosie shrugged, her eyes fixating on the man. “micah’s got more flair than michael. michael’s just…boring.”

“i’m not too sure who kieran is so--- i don’t know why, but um-- i won’t push.” micah frowned, feeling sorry for the blonde. “well, i’m not against you so you can’t say the whole town.” being positive wasn’t his area of expertise, but he tried. “michael is boring, maybe i will stay with micah and just avoid that starbucks.”

‘ why does that surprise you? ’ confusion consumed her features as her brows furrowed and her eyes examined his features. ‘ your name fits you so well, because its unique and you are definitely unique - — and before you go all awko taco on my ass, yes that is a compliment, micah. and yes, i really do like your name. ’ she smiled, her head shaking slightly as a breathy laughed left her.

“i dunno, it’s just--- i dunno.” he shrugged as he trailed off. a smile remained on his face, though. “awko taco? that’s better than awkward and weird, i suppose. thank you, josie. it means a lot coming from you.”

“um yeah? i told you this declan.. you told me you wanted me to put your nut in a bag and take you along with me. but bro, i’m surprised i was even able to go. it was a gift from one of my relatives.. they live in new york and kinda have a great life. i wish i lived with them, to be honest, but i’m too attached to amber springs to ever leave. and nah, that’s not weird… i mean, you know.. i thought you’d say you wanna bang them but.. adoption is cool.” kieran muttered as his eyebrows edged upwards, the confusion evident on his face. “dude, are you okay? you’re being really fuckin’ weird.”

“what’s nut? does declan have like an almond that he is weirdly attached to? you being attracted to this town is the only thing keeping you from being with your family? what is there to be attached to? no offense, of course, this town isn’t shabby, just small.” micah rambled what seemed like a million questions to the man. “oh, you must think i am declan. sorry, i’m the clone.”

He was a fighter. He really was. I’ve watched people tear him down, and then ask for his help. And he would help them. He would spend hours helping them. I’ve always admired and hated that part of him.

“calm down there, bud. i don’t know her, no, so i honestly don’t know what this girls deal is. but, i mean, whatever i’m saying could be true. anything could be true. but, no, i’m not some spy that was told to mess with you,” sadie reassured him, her brows knit together with confusion. “you don’t– i mean, not that it’s any of my business, but you don’t have sex?” she asked, her jaw dropped in shock, the girl’s curiosity getting the better of her.

her head turned as she looked at him, a smile taking over her features. ‘ don’t get me wrong, i love the name michael. i mean my brothers name is michael, but… i also really love the name micah. i mean get real, when am i ever going to meet another micah? its freaking awesome. so no, i don’t think you should change it. ’ she smiled, rocking back on her heels, her thumbs hooked into her back pockets. ‘ but i do think you should correct the girl, i mean sure she’ll feel bad. but she’ll feel even worse when one day someone thats not you corrects her on her mistake. ’

‘you really like my name? i mean, yeah it’s not that common, but you like it?’ he nodded his head while listening to josie’s advice. “i guess-- i should. maybe she will be so happy i corrected her we will become even better friends, right?” micah asked being overly hopeful for once. maybe it was the effect josie had on him.

——– “ micah ? that’s such a cool name & i promise i’m not over exaggerating or anything. i don’t usually hear interesting names like that all too often. —oh well, it’s up to you if you want to tell her or not. i just suggest you do. ”

“You-- you think so?” A smile tugged at his lips. “Uh, thanks then. I just might do it, I am not one to lie so maybe if I reassure her mistakes happen and it’s okay she won’t feel bad about it, if she does actually feel bad.”

“well i’m not her, so i can’t give any exact reasoning. but maybe you’re the only costumer of hers that is actually nice to her, in this town it’s a real possibility, or maybe she fell in love with your mysterious looks, thought you were a bad guy until you opened your polite mouth and then she’d get the best of both worlds so she fell in love. never go back again? but then what is she gonna think? you’d have to get used to responding to michael though, and hearing her yell it when y’all are doing the nasty. i mean, i think it’d be a little weird for her to be yelling someone else’s name other than your real one, so maybe just tell her.”

“i--- i-- i-- no. no you are, you are joking. there is no way anything you are saying could be slightly true. she--- you know her, don’t you? she put you up to this, right? you guys think this is funny.” micah shook his head, hoping it would shake the paranoia away. “doing the nasty? oh, oh, no. i don’t do that. so, it wouldn’t matter.”

As he spoke, his mind wandered about like a bird in a huge tree, moving from one place to the next with no exact destination. Alexandre happened to do this a lot and the fact that it was while he himself was speaking was something almost rendered unusual; to him, that is. To the world, it was definitely unusual. “Are you serious?” he asked after a long while as soon as he returned to reality. “So a girl has never asked you the big ‘does this make me look fat?’ question?”

Micah furrowed his brows when the other seemed to drift off. He waited patiently for Alexandre to speak again, not sure if the conversation was over or not. “Yeah, I’m serious. No, girl has asked me that, thankfully.”

“it must be hard bein’ a twin, huh?” she asked, a small pout protruding on her lips. “i mean, i can tell you two apart but that’s easier than anything. your brother hates me and you don’t seem to, so no guessin’ game there.” rosie shrugged slightly at his response, her nose crinkling. “i guess it don’t matter, but changin’ your name is still a waste of money.”

“it’s not bad. in a way it makes you feel less lonely.” he frowned at hearing how declan felt about her. “why-- why does he hate you? maybe i will hold off on changing it then.”

“ Yes. Exactly like Serena Williams. Sometimes I get an H at the end of my name too. They get really creative with the names. I’m sure any girl would appreciate you going by a false name to save her the embarrassment. Just be grateful that it’s close to your actual name rather than it being Declan.”

“At least Serena Williams is really cool. Michael is kinda--- I think the word would be basic. You think so? Not, that like I am trying to get her to like me or something.” He shrugged, “It wouldn’t have been the first time or the last so it wouldn’t matter to me.”

“Well, like I said, I don’t think the whole ‘Michael’ thing is a good enough reason to do it. I’d just lie and say you changed your name to Micah,” she shrugged before resting her face in her hands and staring intently at the stranger with Declan’s face. “This is so freaky. So … if we’re going with the Parent Trap analogy … Does Declan not know you exist?”

“Even though that;s still lying it might be a better option than actually changing my name.” He chewed on his bottom lip while she stared at him. “Yeah, he doesn’t know about me--- yet.”

Carter crossed his legs Indian-style and placed his hands on ankles, leaning in to listen intently to Micah’s story. The right time. It was an illusive concept. “ That’s a good idea. You don’t want to jump him, but … don’t wait too long, okay? This town isn’t big enough for you to hide in the open forever, ” Carter offered, kindly. It was interesting to see how differently Micah carried himself in comparison to Declan. “You’re both like night and day. It’s funny. You’ve been here a month? Oh my god. How many times have we bumped into each other and I’ve thought you were Declan? The shirt might come in handy, at least while people are still getting to know you.”

“Yeah, I know. We are bound to run into each other some time or worse someone who ran into me is gonna tell him about me. He probably won’t believe them, but still.” Becoming anxious, Micha cracked his knuckles. It was one of tose things that calmed his mind. “Yeah, most people assume Declan took on an alter ego when they meet me. Probably one or twice or like four times. I don’t know. It’s--- it’s not like I keep count.”

          sophia made her way around the counter, eventually standing behind it. she got herself busy, putting the priorities of their only customer in the flower shop first before engaging into her friend’s (or so she thinks) nonsense. “what do you mean by he?” she questioned through chuckles, raising her brows while her sight was on the flowers she had began to wrap; clearly, not taking any of declan’s explanation seriously. it wasn’t until she was done with the customer till she lifted her head and faced the male; shooting him a mixture of an unimpressed and an amused expression. "what are you trying to pull here?” she firmly asked, her eyes observing the male’s change of appearance. “are you building some sort of alter ego for yourself, declan? it’s a bit strange.” she studied him quite briefly; her eyes taking its time to figure out how much it must have took for him to hide his tattoos. “i’m impressed though, micah,” a tone of mockery dripped as she entertained him with his desired name. her eyes squinted as she observed his neck – no sign of ink there. ”did you sink yourself into a bathtub of foundation? gosh, it’s so well done – did maisie help you with this? new business?”

“what? wha-- no, i’m micah. not declan. he is my twin brother.” he tried to explain the girl once again. he had dealt with people thinking he was declan playing a prank, but after few moments they would realize the two were too different. “foundation? maisie? what? what? i’m sorry. i can’t--- why would i need to put on makeup? and who is maise? you are-- i’m sorry. i don’t know what you are saying.”

Because Alexandre is nothing but a pure idiot, he reached out and pressed his index finger to Micah’s lips. “Shhh. Say no more. You don’t even have to play hard to get, anymore. You’ve got me.” He had a special kind of humour that little to no one understood and honestly, it wouldn’t even surprise him if Micah didn’t find it funny whatsoever. “Lying’s not always bad. Think about it. When your mom was pregnant with you, she gained a good forty pounds. There was nothing she wouldn’t eat, and daddy was scared. But whenever she asked me how she looks, I said, ‘You look terrific honey; you’re beautiful, you’re glowing.’ If I had told mommy she looked like a cow it would’ve hurt her feelings. See?” He had far too much time on his hands.

Micah flinched when realized the other was reaching out to him, he tried to stay relaxed as possible with Alexandre’s finger on his lips. He also tried to keep the thought of where his finger might have been and when was the last time he washed his hands out of his mind, but Micah found himself failing. Relief washed over him as the other stopped. Micah still smiled, wanting to be friendly, “Okay, that’s one okay reason to lie. But luckily I have never been in the position where I had to lie to a woman about her weight.”

maisie laughed even harder, shaking her head slightly. her face scrunching up in amazement. “wow you’re really not declan. i - i wasn’t talking about your feet but it might as well be the same thing. i’m a big fan of your brother. well – not fan? i’m his friend. sort of. i don’t know if he’d consider me a friend, really, but he’s a friend to me. does – he knows you exist right? i mean, how cool? i wish i had a twin.”

“i’m glad you believe me. some people it takes convincing. they think I am him, just trying to play a joke on them.” he continued to smile at the girl. “he seems to have a lot of fans, or that’s the kinda vibe i get. no, he doesn't. he doesn’t know about me--- yet. i hope to keep it that way, if that’s okay with you?”
